| Well let's hope I don't get soaked. The car is at the shop today
after I just ran out of time and guess work.
Fan works when jumped direct to battery.
Fan works when the Temp Control switch is unplugged.
Fan does not work with switch connected.
The relay module has what looks like about 14 or more wires going into
it.
If logic prevails it can be
a) bad switch or wrong switch (it's brand new, old one has same problem
b) defective relay module
c) computer is hosed
d) wiring problem
I'll post an update later.

The trip to the garage only cost me a little embarassement but
no money. It seems as though when I changed the switch it did the
trick.
I was fooled into thinking something was wrong when the fan would come
on by unplugging the temp control switch. Apparently the switch is
normally closed (cold engine) bypassing the relay coil. When the
engine gets hot the switch opens resulting in voltage across the
relay coil and picking up the fan motor.
Also I did not have enough patients to wait for the engine to get
hot enough to see the fan kick in after changing the switch. If I had
been able to use something more accurate than the guage on the dash
I would have realized the fan wasn't supposed to be on.
FWIW - This is the second good experience at East Main Auto in Northboro.
It feels good to hear "no charge" but a little embarassing.

| OK, after doing a fair amount of searching in here, i guess i'll
enter my taurus problem...
i have a 89 wagon w/ 3.8 engine. i had a steering rack go on it
about a year or so ago, and i guess they thru it back together...
so after some time i had a metal hose rubbing a hole in it.
30 some odd bucks for the hose, but about 4/5 hours for me to replace
the hose from the front of the pump to the BACK of that great 3.8
engine between the fire wall. while i was at it, and had a bunch of
things disconnected, i put finished putting in three bosch plugs in
the rear...fun is..
ok, heres my current problem. what i think is the EGR sensor
has all but "burnt" up. it is the sensor at the top of the engine
with electrical wires on it. it seems to sit just on top of a pipe
that runs to the exaust manifold... it has/had a place for a hose
to connect it to this pipe, and that is where it is all burnt and gone.
now near it is the egr diaphragm along with a vacuum inlet, that both
have a hose conected that run down to the front of the block and attach
to another type of valve of some kind. now when i had this all
disconnected i may have swaped the hose between these two
(diaphragm and vacuum) and now i'm wondering if this could have
somehow lead to this egr sensor burning up. i'm even wondering
about the plugs causing some heat problem...
from reading a few notes in hear about OEM vs. bosch plugs...
anyway, now this sensor is burnt, and causing poor engine performance
along with the check engine light i assume, and a replacement is 70 bucks...
before i throw another at it, i thought i'd try to find someone
with a emmisions manual to see if i have the proper vacuum routing
also... and of course get any expert :-) input along with it.

| OK, after getting tired of hearing from my SO about the poor
performance in the taurus,, i broke it down and replaced this
EGR pressure sensor... $65
i still cant figure why the entire bottom of this part has been
melted/cooked away, but the new one is in, and it still looks ok...
i'd still be interested in hearing if someone can look up the vaccum
routing in this area, to see if i have it right... 89 3.8 v6.
egr/evr vac routing from,
vac source down to.
some type of egr/evr valve,
and back up to the egr/evr diaphram.

You should have a vacuum routing diagram someplace in the engine compartment.
Many are on the bottom of the hood.
