    Got a new member for the CRRC club over the weekend. He does not
    fly (at least yet), but he does possess a rather invaluable skill
    that he has offered to provide for us at a very reasonable cost.
    
    While at crow island on Sunday, that was really packed all day (
    three people) Chris Shuck (sp?) was helping a new flier with his
    PT40. Suddenly the plane was going right, Chris grabbed the
    transmitter from the student and attempted to gain control of
    the plane assuming pilot error. Did'nt work, and the plane landed
    in a nice tree about 50 feet up or so with the engine still running.
    The good part is that the plane landed in a tree, and not in the
    drink (lot'sa water around Crow Island). We could see the plane
    in the tree and could also see that the rudder did not work. One
    of those plastic clevisis worked loose and sprung open. As we 
    thought about how to get the plane down, (shake tree, throw rocks,
    cut down tree), Chris said that he knew a tree climber in Sudbury.
    For $50 this guy will safly bring your plane back to the ground.
    He climbed the tree, put a rope on the plane, and lowered the plane
    safly to the ground. It took about 45 to 60 minutes for the entire
    operation. Doug got his PT40 back with tree damage only that's
    easily repairable.
    
    The tree climber, Ross is his name I believe, has offered his services
    to us. He even joked that perhaps he would hang around on weekends
    look'in for a few extra bucks. He'd even offer pilots advice when
    they were flying over trees. (LOWER,LOWER)

I build model engines for a hobby- mostly steam, but currently near 80% complete
on a single cylinder gas engine. If you dont turn up a spare part, maybe I
could make some parts for you- if the engine is shot anyway, we couldnt loose 
much by trying.

In fact, if others in the grater Maynard area need small model parts machined
Im willing to try, subject to time and ability. I have a reasonably complete
machine shop at home. I have the plans (from a 1913 MODEL ENGINEER magazine)
for a steam powered model airplane- anyone interested in a joint project?

Materials orders with various suppliers are being completed and the kits
should begin to ship around the middle of December.  You can call the bus.

and order line for those who want to charge it.  The kit will be advertised
in various RC publications beginning with RC Report.

Hi Marty,

	There was a one page write up in the March issue of Model Aviation
at the end of the slop soaring article. The story was written by Sal Lasilli.
The two kites shown were flown by Melinda and Corinne Lasilli. The kites they
showed were an 8 1/2 foot Stinger Delta and a Team High Fly delta. From the
outside toward the center the color of the Stinger was Hot Pink/lite blue/
black/hot pink. The High Fly was black/purple/white/yellow. The pictures were
taken at Robert Morse State Park in Long Island New York.

I will remove the tx/rx boards from the radios. I am running trains indoors
with greatly reduced power (~500 mW) and short flexible antennas.  

I'd like to spend $15 to $35 per tx/rx pair. Old crashed Cox/Airtronics are
what I have in mind, though 4 channels are also desirable.

the tail sufaces, glued in the nut for the horiz. stab and glued in
the nuts for the wing joiner.  That's it. According to Hobby lobby
this plane likes to stay up and is a big seller.

    HELP!!!

    I went for a few Gremlin flights last night (to warm up for the NATS
    demo tomorrow) and I seem to have destroyed my OS .25 FP 'cause I
    put the starter on it when it had hydro-lock.  :-(

    It will barely turn over with the glow plug and the backplate
    removed!  (I think I twisted or otherwise mangled the crankshaft.)

    Do you know of anyone that has an OS .25 FP and would be willing to
    loan it to me?  (I'd promise to repair or replace it in the event of
    a "mishap".)

    NOTE: The contest is tomorrow so shipping it to me would not help -
    I need one in the central Mass. (USA) area.

    plane. It has flown several times, fuselage repaired after a landing in
    the tall grass (short of the runway at low speed) pulled the wing loose 
    and split some seams. Hasn't been repainted. Plane is an ARF, with
    silkspan and dope finish, yellow with black/blue trim, checkerboard on
    wing bottom. Plane is on the heavy side, so I would recommend a strong
    45 2-stroke, or possibly a 60. I flew it with a 70 4 stroke. Reason for
    selling, I am completing a Great Planes Mustang which will become my
    sport flying plane. Plane has test flown after repairs were made.
    PLane will make a decent back up or knock around airplane.

It took me two evenings but I found one.  First I remembered Kingfisher but forgot
about the Anderson part so I found several Vought Kingfisher planes - there pretty
neat and the Navy version is on floats.

Anyway - RCM has plans for the Anderson Kingfisher in the Feb 1990 issue.
Plan #1060 $20.00, 1/4 scale, 108" wing span 1584 sq inches.
It is also pictures in color on the front cover of the RCM Illustrated Plans Catalogue.
Looks pretty nice.

WANTED WANTED WANTED

Can someone do me a favor and get the following things for me and send them
to me?  I'll of course reimburse any costs and send some German chocolate
bars in addition.


I need a bunch of the screws that SupreTigre uses to hold the muffler
stem thing on to the engine.  The engine uses two screws to hold this on and
I've lost one and would like to get some back ups.  I checked at
a hobby shop here and he couldn't tell what size it is.  It is not M4 and the
threads are different than German standards.  The engine is the new GS40K.
Screws should be same as S-40K or S-45 type engines.

I also need the Needle Valve assembly (needle valve and the holder thing that
screws into the carb) for a Magnum 45 PRO engine.  I don;t want to pay the
DM 93 to buy an OS carb just now and OS parts don't fit this carb.

Please contact me if you can do this for me.

    Tamiya Blackfoot RC pickup truck W/ Kyosho Pulsar 2 channel radio.
    Truck is assembled, comes with a Kyosho 600E motor installed and an
    extra 360ST motor, truck has a Novak electronic speed control, and
    ball bearing axles. I have three 7.2 volt batteries and 2 chargers,
    1 is an aristocraft 12volt/120volt quick charger, and one is a Hobbico
    model 702 12 volt/120volt charger that has a volt meter, and that can
    trickle charge and quick charge. Radio is in the 75 Mhz band. $200
    
    Hobby Lobby Hunter 4WD gas powered 1/8th scale car w/ Picco .21
    engine. Just need to bolt in the engine, radio already installed.
    Comes with Futuba FP-3PG 3 channel radio, electric starter, box for

    Engine has about an hour on it. This car can easily spin all 4 tires

     This plane is finished in monocote.  The fuse is mostly red.  The tail
feathers are white with blue, yellow, and red stripes.  The wing is mainly
white in color, with blue, yellow and red stripes that match the tail
feathers only the width is greater.

     The Engine is mounted at 45 degrees.  It has CB assoc glass mounts.
All hinges are radio south pro CYA.  Fiberglass pushrod for elevator, dubro 102
(solid rod in plastic sheath) for rudder. (Dubro 102 is used on the super
sportster 90/120).  The throttle and steering are in cable.  Comes with wheels,
and Futaba charging jack in place.  Just add radio, and your ready to fly.




2) ASP .46 new never used

      This engine was purchased for the Kougar but has never been used.


3) SIG KADET MKII

   This is a trainer, it has not flown in three years.  It was crashed once,

    My son has a Monster Truck conversion kit for his RC-10. He wanted to
    have the ability to turn the RC-10 from off-road to Monster, in a few
    minutes. While the kit seems very complete, and of decent quality, it

    I've decided to start designing my own scaled aircraft and choose the
    ones that are appealing to me. What I need is 1 to 1 scale drawings of
    engines or dimensioned drawings of engines so that I can put them in a
    library on my CAD system at home and call them when ever I need them.
    Does anyone knows where I could find such drawings.
    
    I whas also told that a good magazine to get 3 views of airplanes whas
    one by the name PROFILES.  My local hobby shop tells me that it is no
    longer available. Does anyone know where I could get old editions of

     This plane is finished in monocote.  The fuse is mostly red.  The tail
feathers are white with blue, yellow, and red stripes.  The wing is mainly
white in color, with blue, yellow and red stripes that match the tail
feathers only the width is greater.

     The Engine is mounted at 45 degrees.  It has CB assoc glass mounts.
All hinges are radio south pro CYA.  Fiberglass pushrod for elevator, dubro 102
(solid rod in plastic sheath) for rudder. (Dubro 102 is used on the super
sportster 90/120).  The throttle and steering are in cable.  Comes with wheels,
and Futaba charging jack in place.  Just add radio, and your ready to fly.

Someone asked for info on model strobes. I got the following info from the 
Ace catalog. It's also available through Sig and I think Tower carries it.

I couldn't find the original request so I figured here was as good a place 
as any.

The numbers included seem to be a RAM number since they are common between 
Ace and Sig.

    I found a sale on lead shot at a local firearms and outfitter store.
    It's perfect for nose weight, ballast, and hapless ducks. But it comes
    in increments of 25 pounds, so unless I build a gaggle of tail heavy
    planes, I'm not likely to need this much for several lifetimes. So if
    anyone in the Eastern Mass. area would like to invest in some heavy
    metal, drop me a line. $0.50/lb.

    	I found a GREAT use for lead shot years ago.  I fill old socks (no
    holes please) with it and use them for building weights.  They will
    hold a fuse in place while working on it while conforming to its shape. 
    I have four of them at about 5# each.  Put the shot in a plastic bag
    first or it will come through the socks if it's the real small stuff.

    you could use just about a whole bag, I  suggest you go to Lew Hortons
    Outfitters (Since 1947) in Framingham. They are below the Ski Market on
    Rt. 9, and have lots of the bags of shot piled up. $12.50 seemed to be a
    good price; another place quoted me $16.50.
    
    Charlie: That's a GREAT idea! I never thought of it, but there've been
    many times when I wished I had a block of pig-iron or something
    similar. I'll give it a try.

    What size shot did they have?  The stuff I got was a little too small -
    and I think more expensive because of the size.  Any shot works well
    for Lead Socks.   (Not to be confused with Red Socks.)

    Actually you can confuse the two.
    
        Based on the the Sox speed/running game, I'd call them Lead Sox
        for sure.

    They had #7, 8 and 9. I got #9, the smallest. Haven't actually opened
    the sack yet to see what I got, but this I can tell you: it's heavy!
            

    If you don't mind playing with lead, you can also use the shot to cast
    your own custom fitted weights..  Using epoxy sometimes takes up too
    much  room..
    
    I also use sock weights to hold down foam cores during the cutting and
    sheeting phase, as well as holding fuse sides in place before glueing.
    
    And I also use 75# of weight in my baggage compartment to keep the
    sundowner from being too nose heavy!!  (ooppps, wrong conference).

    Imagine what the socks were like before they got relegated to lead shot
    containers?.
    
    It is safer to isolate the lead shot in plastic before putting it in
    the socks.
    
    The lead-socks are great for weighting down compound or non-flat
    shapes. Also they make the cat move extremely quickly when one falls off
    of the bench! :-)

Usually I put the shot in a Dixie cup and tape it to the airplane.
After I determine the amount I mix in silicon to a slurry and stuff
the mixture where ever I need the weight.  This is quick and stays put
and in a pinch if you want to take some out you can kinda scrape it
back off.  I usually check the weight before and after I add the silicon
and remove some to keep it just right.

    	When requiring large amounts of additional nose weight in a glass
    or similar Fuz : I establish whats required, prepare about 80% of it in
    an old ladle over a gas burner, put the fuz nose in cool water and then
    pour straight in when ready. A bit permanant, but at least its as far
    forward as you can get it..

I've only been able to put about 12 flights on this little beauty
and hate to see it sitting in my cellar. My RC time has been VERY
limited this year, and I need to reduce my inventory of "hanger
queens." The SS 20 is finished in white with red and blue trim.
I'm selling it with the servos, Rx battery, and switch included.
Just add your engine and receiver and your all set. The servos
include are: 2- Royal minis, 1- JR 507, and one RCD Apollo 20(mini).
The engine mount is tapped for an OS FP .25 engine. I'm asking

    I had a plan to build a Champion 45L as a pattern practice ship before 
    the season got really going. I went ahead and bought the plane but time 
    and moving house swept on by me again.
    
    As a result I shall probably not get around to putting this plane
    together this year. Instead of letting the box gather dust I will offer 
    it for sale. It would be ideal for either Novice or Sportsman to get them
    rolling very quickly. I reckon about three good evenings to put it
    together. I have seen them fly and they do everything like a pattern
    ship and track very well indeed.
    
    The plane is for sale at $130.00, (if you pick it up).
    
    It truly is ready to assemble and is complete with all accessories such
    as tank, pushrods, wheels, spinner, clevices etc. It is designed to
    take a Magnum 45 with a standard muffler or any equivalent engine. 
     
    The only difference from factory spec is that it will already have a

    A friend of mine would like to sell two motors he has never used or
    started. They are New In Box. Will some one(s) please reply to what

    Fox .36 Bal Bearing schneurled port without muffler
    Royal .45 ABC Ball Bearing also schneurled port with muffler. The
    needle valve assembly is still in the plastic bag, stapled.
    
    These engines were purchased somewhere in the mid 80's. I have looked

	I have had a glider in my basement for a few years. Someone gave this 
	to me for a busy project. I don't know why, I've never been into this
	hobby. Needless to say, I have no history on this plane and
	can barely speak the language.

	I'm cleaning the basement and it has to go.

    Glider

	The wing span is about 100".
	The overall length of the plane is 48".
	Balsa core construction with some type of plastic covering.
	Plane has a receiver and two Controlaire 'actuators'.
	  (for the elevator and rudder (I think they're called))
	A battery.
	The nose is weighted.
	White fuselage and yellow wings.
	Wings are detachable and in perfect shape.
	Detachable cockpit canopy.	

	There is some damage:

		The rudder and left tail section are damaged in that
		the balsa core needs to be repaired. These sections
		are dangling.


    Controller

	Controlaire by World Engines.
	27.195MC.
	Usual two joysticks and trimmers.
	Telescoping, top loaded antennae
	A little switch with a safety lock (I presume the ON/OFF switch)
	Battery level meter
	The case cosmetics are not great and I have not opened it up.

I checked out the glider Dan is selling in .671 and it's in good shape. It's a
standard class straight wing plane with transparent yellow wings and tail and a
white fuselage. The fuselage is built up and quite round and has a nice finish.
It has a removable canopy and wing center section. It has plug in wings. The
tail feather damage is clean and would probably CA together quickly. It's a 2
channel rudder/elevator plane. The radio is old 27mhz pre-1991 stuff so it
shouldn't be used. I think the plane is worth $25 to someone wanting a nice
backup plane or wanting to dabble with gliders.

I have plenty of projects at the moment but I told Dan I'd put in an evaluation
for him.

  I have a Hobby Lobby Sport 500 heli for sale. 350$.
 It has an Enya 40 and Airtronics 72 mhz (aircraft) electronics.
 The copter is in flyable shape. I did a bit of work on it after I 
 got it from my cousin to sell and it is in a lot better shape than 
 when he was TRYING to fly it! I rebalanced the whole rotor section, 
 replaced lotsa screws and swivel sockets. Some minor quirks still exist
 but if your into playing, this is the machine, it still needs work.
 It has a gyro in it, I forget the type but it works. I can show you it 
 hoover. 

 No starter. I have a Schluter Miniboy that I use the starter and battery
 on and don't wanna give then up. It used a belt and pully setup to start.

        landing skid, and glassed center section.

    By coincidence, I noticed that Bill Johnson, who owns Fisher R/C in
    Natick, was leaving the auction Sunday with an electric RC boat that
    didn't get sold. It's a fiberglass hull, has two eletric motors and one
    prop, and requires the radio and battery, and possibly some hardware for
    the hull. I think the price was around $70. He was going to put it on
    display in his store. You might want to check with him.

    Well, I finally got the catalog from Doug last night...
    
    The 10lb scale costs $54.95.  It runs off a 9V battery, and will
    measure in 1/10th-oz or 2 gram increments.  It also has "tare" so
    you can zero it with the container...
    
    There are 4 of us interested so far..  I haven't called yet for 
    bulk purchasing, but will ask when I order.

I don't know if it would work but if it has the Tare option Jeff mentions, weigh
the fuselage, zero it, add the wing 8^) I don't think I have any plane PARTS
that are over 10 pounds.

    Went to BJ's in Auburn last night and they have two scales, 5 and 10
    pound capacities. The 5 pound was around $55 and the 10 pound was about
    $62. The 10 pound was selectable to grams and was up to 5000 grams in 5
    gram incremements and the 5 pounder was by 2 grams up to 2500 (I
    believe). Just another source if people didn't get in on Jeff's order

    Do you have a 6VA?  I have one (NIB) that I have not installed yet.  I
    have not even gone through the manual yet so I can't give you detailed
    information about its capabilities.  I would be glad to send you a copy
    of the manual if you need it.

    features, be sure to post it in RC notes.  Enquiring minds want to

    I bought the 6VA (new) for my son last summer, so we have what passes
    for the manual (a 4-panel double-sided foldout). You can pore through
    it to your heart's content (won't take long ;^) but you won't find the
    information I'm seeking - there's no mention of elevon capability.
    
    I found out that there *is* in fact a way to set this radio up for
    elevons from the person that owns "Quillen Engineering" in Indiana, an
    outfit that sells add-on mixers made from PICs.  A *really* nice guy,
    when I mentioned that I needed one of his mixers to allow a 6VA to
    control a Gremlin (he knew what those were), he told me while he'd love
    to sell me a mixer, he had read an article in Model Builder (he had the
    copy in front of him) that detailed how to set the radio up to do some
    things that the documentation didn't mention - and elevons was one of
    those capabilities.
    
    In fact this guy had bought a 6VA to use on a tail-less glider he was
    building and was expecting to use these undocumented features himself.
    He spent at least 20 minutes on the phone with me discussing both his
    mixers and then relating the details of the magazine article so I could
    set the elevon function up. I did manage to get it working pretty well 
    (at least I *think* so). But apparently there are other things that
    the radio can do that also aren't documented in the manual, so I'd like
    to have a copy of the article to hold on to. 
    
    He knew the author of the Model Builder article and even gave me the
    guys phone number if I needed to speak with him (!) but I'd like to
    have a copy of the article just the same. If nobody here in
    digitalRCland has the issue I'll pick up a newer one and contact their
    back-issue department...
    
    By the way, the mixers this guy is selling don't have the multitude of
    potentiometers that the Christie's apparently have (from what I've read
    in this conference). Strictly chips, with a PIC running the show, and 
    they're pretty versatile from what he was telling me. 1/3rd ounce,
    $29 assembled ($23 for a u-solder-'em kit). 219-759-5298
    
    In any case, this person was one of those rare people that would rather
    be helpful than make an easy buck. If he makes his mixers with the same
    level of care as he conducts his business, they must be pretty fine
    mixers!

    First, a story: When I moved to the US from the UK, I brought with me
    some  radio control stuff that I'd used with a model helipcopter I'd 
    bought, built, flown and fatally (for the model, and very nearly for 
    me when one of the rotor blades passed within 2 feet of my head at 
    VERY high speed) crashed. Anyway, the items have been stored in my 
    basement and while spring cleaning this weekend, I came across them. 
    Since I have no immediate desire to start R/C modelling again, I  have
    decided to get rid of them. Each item is available separately. Please
    feel free to extract and pass on this note to your RC buddies outside
    of Digital.

1. O.S. Max 28F-H Helipcopter engine with silencer. Used less than
   10 hours total. I have stripped, cleaned, lubed and re-assembled
   the engine, and even put a brand-new glow plug in it, but 
   the piston ring broke while I was removing it. I have tried to 
   locate a replacement without luck. Anyway, the engine is FREE to 
   a good home. If shipment is required, you pay. I work in Nashua 
   and frequently visit LJO, TAY and LKG sites. Delivery to MRO and NQO 
   can be arranged.

2. MacGreggor JR PROPO APEX Series system N7-4SHN Helicopter Radio
   Control in original box with full documentation. Can also be used
   for aircraft and boats, of course. I can send/fax the full specs,
   but here's the high-points: 

	7-channel FM SSS 35MHz RX/TX system. Channel 67 crystal - TX 
          frequency=35.070 MHz
	Receiver
	5 x JR NES 505 Servos
	NiCad pack
	Charger

	Clockwise/Antoclockwise Main Rotor Rotation

        manufactured before 1991, which I understand marked some kind of a
        frequency std change here in the US), according to the guy I asked
        at RC Warehouse here in Nashua. He tells me that this kind of system
        is still in use, but clubs typically don't like to allow their use 
        due to possible interference with other close-by modeller's equipment.
        Buyer accepts any risk this might create.

	Note 3: Since this system hasn't been used for over 8 years,
        I don't know if it still works. I'll offer a money back
        warranty for 30 days. One positive indication though is that
        the transmitter's battery indicator light does come on for one or
        two seconds after I turn it on even after not having been 
	charged for that long !

	Price ? Make me an offer (I really have no idea what it's 
        worth). I'll also throw in a book about flying model 'copters.

3. Power Panel, glow plug connector and leads, 12v 6.5AH battery and
   a Kalt 150cc fuel tank with fittings. The control panel takes power
   from the battery, will feed power to the glow plug (has two
   positions - normal and hi-amp plug), power to the starter (see item
   4), and also has switch positions to fill and drain a model's fuel
   tank via an internal pump. The battery appears to be completely dead
   (may just need charging from a 12v trickle-charger), but the control
   panel itself, including the pump, seemed to be working just fine
   just now when I tested it with my car battery. With operating 
   instructions.

   Price $20 ono. 

4. High-power SS6 Model Engine Starter (12v). Good for model cars, boats, 
   airplanes and helicopters.

   Price $20 ono.

5. Kalt helicopter rotor blade pitch gauge. Good for rotor blades between
   1 3/4" and 2 1/2" leadinf to training edge. Adjustment range of -5 to
    +10 degrees on main gauge. User instructions lost, but it's pretty
    obvious how it works.

My 14 year old son would like to get into R/C flying. We looked at ARF
