| Hi,
I just picked up a 93 Explorer. It's in pretty good shape, but I'd like
to poll all Explorer users, particularly 93 and beyond, for any recall issues or
typical headaches they have to deal with on their vehicles. Also, any useful
gadgets I should have on hand to take care of that particularly tough problem. I
have a pretty good array of tools, but if you know of anything special please
let me know. Features of my vehicle:
XLT
4WD
4.9 6-cyl
Power windows/mirrors/door locks
rear defroster and wiper
standard ride, not off-road
roof rack
tinted glass
AM/FM/Cassette
no special body panels
no towing package, but info on installation would be nice

| Not sure what year(s) this involves,but the air intake assembly was
mounted very low which causes water to enter the engine when going
through small puddles, seizing the engine.Ford claims it isn't their
problem and has refused to compensate owners who have experienced
this problem.There may be a recall out on this to relocate the air
intake plumbing.

| '96 and Ford has recently claimed responsibility for the hydrolocking.
It has been redesigned (supposedly) and there is a recall either
underway or about to commence. Ford did deny responsibility initially.

| just had my autolocking hubs replaced under warrenty service
mgr stated poor design causes early failure (45k) my SIL
replaced same on her 92 Expl and 9x ranger more than once.

Thanks for the info. My 93 Explorer has just turned 70K and with this
recent snow I used it in 4WD mostly all day Tuesday with no signs of weakness or
strain. What symptoms did your locking hubs exhibit before you determined that
they needed replacement; y'know, something short of total failure?

| first just not staying locked in when in Reverse then popping
out of 4wd under heavy load ie towing two sleds thru foot deep
snow. unhtiching the trailer and I was able to drive out service
mgr stated the replaced hubs are of a new design.

| I've noticed something in the past month on my 93 Explorer. First a bit of
history. I bought it about 2 months ago, so I am not the original owner. It is
an XLT with ABS. It is the first vehicle I've ever owned with ABS. Now to the
issue:
I've recently noticed that when I stop the vehicle and keep my foot on the brake
to place it into Park the pedal sags a bit AFTER I shift it into Park, cnd comes
to a hard stop after it falls about � inch. I have no problems braking the
vehicle. I had it during the last snow storm and the ABS system works fine as I
had a few opportunities to try it out, both intentional and unintentional. The
brakes feel good, the wear is normal, and I have felt no signs of blow-by in the
master cylinder and no signs of fluid leaks. Anybody got any info as to why this
is happening?

Sounds like just a little extra vacuum boost do to engine
load decrease (shifted into park) resulting in engine
RPM increase.
