1579.0. "BYREE, BYE - ALL THE BEST" by CHEFS::WARWICKB (Stay young, keep your wheels in motion) Thu Jan 06 1994 10:47

Well folks - I guess a lot of you probably thought I had already been
rightsized ( or is that cut down to size? ) as I have been a
'read-only' noter in this file for some time now.

The sad news is, though, that I leave the company with a redundancy
package at the end of January.

I am not too sure what I am going to do - I would like to start my own
business but may try my hand at contracting in software development or
PC integration for a while to give me time to get things going.

If any of you good guys ever need a contact in the UK then look me up -
I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing your knowledge and experiences with
    you through this notesfile.

All the very best of luck to you all.

    Brian,

Best of luck in any future endeavors. I truly believe there

1579.4Until we meet again...KBOMFG::KLINGENBERGTue Mar 08 1994 07:5938
    Well folks,

it seems to be my turn to say goodbye now. The closure of KBO has long
been announced, and I am leaving on the end of March. However, with
remaining vacation and overtime, I try to get my desk cleaned and leave
by Friday this week. I will follow this file until then, but might not
    find the time to contribute.

Sharing the information and experiences with our hobby in this
conference meant a lot to me. But it was even better to meet many of
you face to face and fly with you together. I will never forget the
times at CMRCM and at the Sudbury glider contest 1992. Thanks for your
    friendship!

We have made many friends, and I'd like to be back in New England some
time, if not for business, then for vacation. I will keep the addresses
of Jim Reith and Charlie Watt and will make sure to get in touch when
    I'm in the area!

If I can help you with anything from Germany - or if you ever are
around - please let me know. My mail address will remain valid at least
until the end of the year.

It was great to be able to get in touch on a daily basis! I am afraid,
I will not be reachable through any kind of E-net for the foreseeable
    future, but I do know...

...there is life after DEC, and I'm looking forward to it!

Best of luck, Hartmut. I will miss your contributions to this
file. Slowly we are losing everyone(Terry Tombaugh, Mark Antry,
yourself, Jim Reith-for a couple days) that I have come to associate
with 399.* I am glad we had the chance to meet, I'll remember when

and your various electric planes. No doubt I would not have seen any of
    them otherwise (other than pictures)

As you said, there IS life after DEC and I'm sure you will do well.
Keep smiling and keep those batteries charged. 8^)

in the states again in the future, I look forward to seeing your
      newest electric marvel!
In any case, even if you don't call us, I am sure at least Eric
will be in touch. He will probably be in the market soon for a new
radio, as he is outgrowing the "limited capabilities" of the entry
level MC-20 :). I can hear it now: But Dear, I NEED this new MC-1000,

    Hartmut,
Best of luck! I enjoyed meeting and flying with you when you
visited the States. It's really a shame that the DEC family is
breaking up. Keep on flying and if you are ever in the area give us a

1579.11ThanksKBOMFG::KLINGENBERGWed Mar 09 1994 10:1131
Thanks for all the nice wishes! I'll try to keep the batteries charged
(If I had, I would be out there flying with Bernd now!).

Dan, Eric will not need a new mc-1000. He'll only need to spend another
$ 100 on the new software module Graupner came out with in February.
Main improvement is soft switching for functions and model memories, so
if you switch from memory 1 to 2 for example, you can decide whether
the changes are in effect immediately or whether you want to
'soft-switch' the changes over up to 8 seconds. Anything can be
    'soft-switched': presets (flaps), mixers, memories.

Auto-Dual-Rate and/or Auto-Expo can be activated on one side of stick
movement only, and the switch that could be triggered by channel 1 can
now be used with any selectable channel and switch whatever you want
    (rates, mixers etc.).

I'm sure Eric will never need the negative pitch for inverted
helicopter hovering, the throttle curve for switchless inverted
    hovering etc.

As far as I understand the news catalog, the radios are still sold with
the module that Eric has (applies probably for Joe's offer in 6.636).
The new module is only available separately (for now) at DM 180 ($ 100).

Dave, yes, I know, there is Internet, CompuServe etc. As far as I know
they all require you to own a PC, and tehn tehy'll steal your time and
money:-) For now, I don't have a PC (although I'm considering to get
one soon), so the E-Net issues will be addressed at some point in the
future. For now, I guess we'll have to work through snail mail, phone
calls and fax to stay in touch.

Well, it's my turn to say goodbye. It looks like as of the 31st of
March I too will be an ex-Digit. I can't say I am all that upset at the
prospect, in fact after years of uncertainty at least I know!

I would like to thank everybody in this notesfile for the huge amount
of advice and encouragement you have all given me in the RC hobby. I
know that I have progressed faster and built better models because of
all of you. (Gee this sounds like an Oscar speech!). I will miss this
notesfile, and the characters in it.

I am intending to sign up with Compuserve in the near future, so I will
still be reachable via Email. I'll let someone know where I am when I
know! I'm also still planning to get to the USA this year, and it would
be really good to put some faces to all the names.

I hope that the future is good to all of you, and yes, to this damn
    company as well! 8^)

Well,

All good things come to an end.
And give you an opportunity to try new ones.

The list for the french layoff plan came out yesterday.

I'm on it. No - it's no suprise. I asked for it.

Things have benn kind of slow for me during the past year. Its not clear that my
skill set matches the needs of the company. I asked for clarifications on plans
to make sure I could contribute more fully. NOthing concrete came about.

Not to worry - I have an outside opportunity. Been working on it for a while, in
fact.

Three guesses - and the first 3 don't count:

I'm gonna open a hobby shop, here in France. There appears to be a opportunity
to shake the current state of affairs here (read high prices).

I should be around til the end of June, give or take a couple of week. Timing
dependent on the conclusion of the layoff plan.

1579.27Time to move on...RANGER::REITHSat Apr 08 1995 10:1823
I thought it was about time that I told the file that I'm leaving. I
have given my notice for 4/14 and am not currently persuing contracts
in DEC. This notesfile has been an important part of my life at DEC
over the last 7 years and has been one of the factors in looking for
contracts. I have made friends world-wide and have learned things that
have taken a form unimagined in 1988 when I started lurking in here.
It's pretty humorous to go back and read some of my early foam cutting
questions and then see where I am today.

My decision was hard to make but I wasn't willing to give the longterm
commitment expected for the current group and I really feel that the
overall attitude within DEC is quite depressing. I'm currently persuing
jobs at small startup companies where I can wear LOTS of hats and have
a feeling of contribution to the company overall. My last few contracts
in DEC have felt like I was drowning in the signal noise.

I have had a GREAT time exchanging ideas and hopefully I've returned to
the file, some of the knowledge and experience that it has given me.
    Please keep in touch.

Hi Joe,

I'll get the P-38 finished as soon as you finish your cutter 8^)

I've been contracting in DEC for 7 years over 5 contracts. Some have been long,
others brief. I will have email access at the new company but the easiest way to
reach me is [email protected] Once I have my new account, that address will
.forward to me. That seems to work easiest and saves me from emailing the world
when I change contracts (I'm sure I'd forget SOMEONE). The only difference to me
leaving this time is that I'm not looking inside DEC. I've decided I need to get
my attitude adjusted and the mest way I can think of to do that is to work for a
small, vigorous company. The new job is with an 80 person company writing a WWW
server. It will be a three person team and I'll have free reign on
implementation. Should be a ball. I'm VERY excited about it.

Here's the vitals that will continue to work for quite a while:

Well, after 10+ years at Digital, I'm leaving the company. My last day
is this Friday, July 14. I don't have an e-mail address or phone number
yet. The best I can do is send e-mail to a few RC noters when I get
there and ask that they put the info in here for me.

I'm moving to Austin, Texas to join a new start up company doing clones
of the Intel x86 family of CPUs. Exciting, challenging, long hours,
good pay, and very little time to spend on RC. ;-)

I'll certainly miss all of you fellow RC noters. Hopefully, I'll be
able to keep in touch via e-mail.

    OK Folks,

Its now my turn to own up. With three working days to go, Thursday
31st August will be my last day at DEC. I will be taking a short
holiday before joining a rapidly expanding company called Syntgra; for
oodles more money, a 35 hour (that's right, pick yourselves off the
floor, I did say 35 hour) week, and other natty benefits.

My excitement at moving is subdued by the loss of this conference.
To me, this was the friendliest conference in DEC. The syntax,
semantics and puncutation of the English in this conference is of
Olympian stature. And the prose. Such a joy to open the conference at
the start of the day and to read the colourful, skillful exploits of
Snow, Reith, Miner, good old Al, and others too numerous to mention, or
to observe the wealth of knowledge passed to niave beginners in a friendly,
constructive manner. You know you are in the company of giants when you
    surf this conference.
My saddness is further compounded by the ever dwindling number of
contributors and the increasingly sparse number of contributions that
have occured over the past year or so. Once able to encounter tens of
scintilating entries per day, I know embrace days of barren silence,
with the odd, furtive flash of days gone by; made more keen by my being
a Read Only Noter, with nothing to contribute.
Well, I shall sign off now. I do promise, however, that I will get
my Flair Black Magic completed and flying. That, unfortunately is all I
can say; this summer's patio (aka stone deck) project is but one of
many, round the house jobs of higher priority.

    Angus

Best of luck Angus. Sometimes, you even get to work THIRTY FIVE hour
    weeks outside of DEC.......8^)

It's beginning to hurt even loosing "read only" noters. But, what are
    ya gonna do.

    Again, best of luck.

    Steve
1579.47My turn now!RCAV8R::HUGHESDave Hughes, PATHWORKS Server Engineering, LKG2-1/BB3 226-5518Mon Nov 20 1995 14:0422
Well, I almost made 20 years. But that isn't going to happen. I'm moving on.

In a couple weeks I'll be starting my new job at CLARiiON, which is part of
(believe it or not, it took me a while to get used to the idea too...)
Data General.

Now, the real good news (besides having a real job again, more pay, long
hours, etc. etc.) is that I'll be back in range of CMRCM for lunchtime
flying! If anybody does that any more? I haven't been able to fly much
since I transferred to Littleton two years ago. But now I'll be down in
Southboro, just about 10 minutes from the field. I sure hope I'll be seeing
some of the old gang there again next summer. Any HTAs left?

It's hard to say goodbye. Digital's been good to me (well, except for the
last few years) and part of me can't believe I'm really going to go. But,
I'll get used to it.

So, the node name RCAV8R will now be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Who'll start?

Dave

Best of luck, Dave. It would be good to see you back at the field. I'm
planning on getting over there next spring and I'll see if I can drag Charlie.
He's at Quantum and I'm at SHR3 these days.

I've heard good things on CLARiiON from my DG buddies. There's a few fliers in
DG as well.

    together!

Maybe by leaving Digital, we'll get to see ya more than once a year.
    8^)

Always enjoyed your good natured humor at the field. Plus you were
always the BIGGEST GUY THERE, so who's gonna argue????????

Get yourself a heli and join the NEW WAVE of HTA'S.

Things have been too quiet at the field. We needed to do SOMETHING to
    keep Ray M's and Harvey's ulcers going.............8^)

    Again, best of luck Dave.

Just a FYI: This contract ends friday and there's a freeze on in the parts of
DEC I've been looking at so it's likely I'll be outside for the next contract.
Feel free to contact me at the address above. I generally read that mail daily
