1569.0. "Winter '93-'94 projects" by UNYEM::BLUMJ () Mon Oct 25 1993 16:00

I guess it's not too early to find out what's on everbodys
    "to build" list this winter.

I'll start with my usual over ambitious list:

    1) Cad Cat 7 cell pylon racer, glass fuz, foam wing

    2) Trabi F5B ship, glass fuz, foam wing

    3) Easy built models Hawker Hurricane - 50" span, stand off scale
electric. If things go well I might try to install retracts.

   4) 120" span custom electric glider built around a Jerry Slates
       special edition fuselage.

                                                    Regards,

                                                    Jim

1569.1I hope to find time to work on my OWN stuffGAUSS::REITHJim 3D::Reith MLO1-2/c37 223-2021Mon Oct 25 1993 16:1716
Do you want what we expect to get done or the depth of our building
queue? 8^)

I STILL hope to finish an RCM P-38 that I have bought the plans, wood
and cowls for at various points. This originally appeared on my 1991
winter building list 8^)

I have an UltraSport 60 in progress (last years Christmas present)

I have a Graupner Jet fuselage in transit that I hope to put my Astro
25 into.

I hope to put a Race Cat together and mold some Kevlar fuselages for
it.

I hope to put a dent into my pile-o-kits waiting in the queue.
1569.2Why do we have to work, anyway?QUIVER::WALTERMon Oct 25 1993 16:4918

    1. Have a Sparrow slope soarer on order from NSP. Hope to get it this
       year.

    2. Need a 2-M ship badly, haven't decided what to get. Prefer high tech
       to gas bag.

    3. I'd like to get an electric to wrap around my Astro Cobalt 05
system. Any suggestions? Falcon 550E? WACO *mumble*?

    4. Would like some sort of new power plane, maybe a biplane with a
4-stroke. No big thing to a lot of you guys, but it would be new
       to me.

    5. A clone, to go to work for me while I build planes.

    building speed!

    1) Finish Flair Puppeteer

    3) Repair Black Magic (using the .20 kindly supplied by Eric H!)

              2) Build Boxer 60

The following wood is still aging: :^)

1569.7My Winter PlansLEDS::WATTTue Oct 26 1993 11:1720
I also have big plans for the winter:

Finish my Graphik - should be done in a month. This is a 60
Pattern ship with a wood fuse. It's at the final finishing stages.

Build a Boxer 120 Pattern Ship. I have the plans and I plan to
have this built by spring. Several of us are doing Boxers so we should
    have some fun building sessions.

Clean out my shop - this should take all winter. I'm a pack rat
and I've accumulated too much RC stuff.

I also have a Spirit Glider still in the box. (It may stay there)

And an Acro-Wot also still in the box. (Won't be built this
    winter)

1569.8Winter ProjecgtsNEMAIL::YATESTue Oct 26 1993 11:5713
Just finished a Hobbico ARF Flightstar 40 and plan to check it out this
week end. Using a Super Tigre .45 for power.

90% complete on a Great Planes Trainer 60.

Currently, scratch building a Ford Tri-motor from RCM plans. Have
completed cuting out all formers, ribs, etc. Tail feathers have been
completed, but most of the work sitll ahead and have no idea how long
it will take to conmplete. A Super Tigre .45 will be used for power
with free wheeling props on the two outside engines.

My number _ONE_ winter project this winter will be to find another
    job:-(

After - or amidst - this, I will have to clean up my workshop and
    finish the

    	- Talon and

    	- ElectriCub

to make them ready to survive a move as good as possible :-( :-(

Both are ready to be sanded and covered, but priorities currently are
on the number _ONE_ project :-( :-( :-(

    Sad note, this one...

1569.10Anybody got any 'extra' time they want to sell me? STOHUB::JETRGR::EATONDan Eaton St.Louis,MO,USA, 445-6522Tue Oct 26 1993 14:0624
Soon to start on this list I hope...

1. Finish Dynaflight P-51 Mustang (40 sized). Mostly just needs radio installed

2. Finish Great Planes Decathalon. Needs wings, tail feathers, fuselage
sanded, fuselage / tail feathers put together, covering, radio install.

3. Finish Twin Star (25 powered twin from RCM plans) It's in about the same
stage as the Decathalon

4. Re-do/finish A-26 Invader (scratch built) This was my first atempt at a foam
wing. It didn't turn out as well as I hoped but it was fun trying.

5. Finish P-38 ( minor enlargement of the RCM P-38 Jim's working on) I've got
the booms ready to be shaped. Project is really held up by a lack of a wing.
When the A-26 gets a proper wing, so will the P-38

6. Finish Hughes 500 fuselage for my Concept 30. Just needs some paint touch up.

7. Finish rebuild on my 1/6 scale Bell Jetranger. Lots of fiddly paint work.

8. Start on the 60 sized Airwolf fuselage I picked up last Spring. Needs to
finish stripping the original paint job and then start from scratch installing
my Cobra mechanics and the retracts that cam with the fuselage.
1569.11Does the glider mode have a Falcon?QUIVER::WALTERTue Oct 26 1993 15:258
Oh, yes, add to my list:

    * Aerochopper simulator for PC. A bit extravagent, but looks like a lot
of fun and will keep the fingers in shape during the winter. And, if
I get really good with the chopper, maybe Dan Weier will let me just
hop right onto his and try it out! Then again, maybe not...

1569.12Roll Your OwnLEDS::WATTTue Oct 26 1993 15:435
Glider mode has a killer thermal. I have not played with the glider
parameters much but I've tried flying it a couple of times. I fly the
chopper mostly - since I like the high degree of difficulty!

Plans for Winter...

This is always my favorite topic:
Only problem is how guilty it makes you feel about last years performance.

First I've got a few things half done.

I would like to finish my scratch built Tugboat.
Last night I was grinding a steel cutting tool to custom
    cut Portholes on my lathe.

I would like to fly the Royal Zero that I finished last year.
The only thing stopping me is fear. I was hoping to get more
stick time on power planes this year first - it is ready to go
but I anticipate problems with the dual tank fuel system.
It has a 54" span and with the retracts and flaps and lights etc.
it weights 9 pounds. Sure to be a lead sled.

I hope to get more time on the Sig Clipped Wing Cub. In fact I would
like to enter it in novice pattern or at least sportsman scale competitions
  next summer.

I only have 2 days flying on a Pivot Plus so I'd like to get accustomed to
  it.

That gets me up to new stuff:

I recently came into a bunch of good balsa so maybe I'll finally
  start that Dave Walter Predator.

I've always wanted to build some of those rubber parlor planes - maybe
I can talk Santa into bringing one.

I've got the following kits competing for my time:

        2 Gremlins
        Dodgson Camano
        Dodgson Pixy
        Panic
        Pica Aeronca Sedan
        Optica
        Lacey M-10 rubber kit
        Guillows Zero rubber kit
        I probably forgot a few :-)

If that ain't bad enough I can't get the thought of slope soaring Gremlins
and Warthogs out of my mind.

Also I really wanna build an RC Sailboat and Submarine but not this year.

Wish me luck.

1569.15Short Queue - Big EffortMKOTS3::MARRONEFri Oct 29 1993 13:2125
My winter queue is pretty short, but it will be a stratch to get it
    done.

    1) Top Flight P-51D Mustang with retracts fore and aft, flaps, glassed
and painted, and I might also add a smoker. Just got an early
Christmas present of an OS 120 4-stroke for the power plant. I'm going
to take this one slow and try to do a primo job.

    2) Ziroli 88" span Taube, sctrtch built from plans. I plan to enter
    this in Rhinebeck next year.

    3) Repair the wing on the Extra 300. I just took delivery of the ribs
I need to do this. Also, I ordered a foam version of this wing from
... the name excapes me right now.

    4) Maybe make a new flight box. A good plan would help me a lot. Any
    Ideas?

    5) The usual maintanance of what's in the hanger.

But the Mustang will be top priority, and it just might take me all
    winter to get it done.

    Regards,
    Joe

Thoughts for the winter from a fellow Thermal modeller of mine..

"I must stop building these multi ribbed stick insects and get down to
struts, spats and things, something with a bit of variety and building
interest, even if I have to put one of those noisy bits on the front"

Well, I find it hard to believe, but this fall, I have actually been
able to find an antedote for balsa-slo... I don't know what it is, but
    I have been building!!

Anyways, the projects for me this winter are:

    	- Finish Junkers that I got at Rhinebeck.. I actually am in the
final assembly stages!! But then comes covering and painting....

    	- Build Chuperosa... I need a lunchtime/handlaunch glider

    	- glue another joint or two on my Proctor Nieuport-11. Its been
so long since I worked on this that the plans that are tacked to the
    wall are fadding!

    	- finish another gremlin that has been sitting in the corner..
This really doesn't count though :-) I just wish Charlie had cut my
streamer 21' closer than he did.. I really need to retire that lead
    sled wing...

    cheers,
