1465.0. "It is time to bid farewell to my RC noter friends..." by HPSRAD::AJAI () Fri Oct 23 1992 19:37

It has been nearly 6 months since my wife Sridevi was
allowed to enter the United States so we might live
together as man and wife - just as the Good Lord
	  intended...

Now, Sridevi and I are learning a lesson in American
	  Economics.

A couple weeks back, we were told that the Fault
Tolerant group for which I have worked for the past 6
years, will essentially be dissolved, with only 25 of
	  the original 125 being retained.

Needless to say, I am not in the core group, and will be
leaving with a package - to stake out on my own.

I was at one time an avid noter, and will sorely miss
the company and knowledge that all of you brought to
this notes file. However, I will continue to be in this
area, and look forward to associating with local DEC
	  RCers on the field.

I will let you all know my e-mail address, once it is
set up - but in the mean while, my address and number
	  fwiw:

			     AJAI THIRUMALAI
			 2506 Windsor Ridge Drive
		      Westboro, Massachusetts 01581
			      H:508-366-5223

I may not be able to reply, but will be glad to receive
e-mail at HPSRAD::AJAI, or as replies to this note,
until 6th November 1992, which will be my last day at
	  DEC.

1465.1Not good-bye but until we meet againHANNAH::REITHJim HANNAH:: Reith DSG1/2E6 235-8039Wed Nov 11 1992 08:5029
It is time for me to depart as well. Being a contractor means I know my date
in advance. This friday is the day. I haven't found anything in DEC at the
moment but I'm sure my skill set will bring me back in here in the future. I
will miss the instant access to international advice and the comraderie with
people I've never physically met, yet know so well.

I'll keep in touch through the people I fly with and want to thank everyone
for prodding me into doing so many diverse things in this hobby. I'm no longer
happy plodding through the sky with a high wing trainer and have actually
competed in the Nats (and will be in Lubbock next year!)

I started flying in 1971 and after getting married and having kids, my stuff
sat on the shelf for 8 years until I discovered this file in 1988. 4 and a
half years later I'm supporting my habit selling foam cores and actually
manufacturing a kit (Gremlin - December 1992 RCM). This file has been a big
part of those years and I'll miss the people. I hope not to discover too many
people missing when I get my next DEC contract.

I'll be working in the shop the next couple of weeks and the business line
rings in there (and I have a speaker phone so I can keep building 8^). If you
have a question or comment or need some cores, give me a ring or drop me a note.

If I'm out and you leave a message on the machine, please leave an extrernal
number, not a DTN 8^)

    Jim,

Sorry to hear you're leaving. The glider guiders are slowly
going away(Terry T., Mark Antry). I will certainly miss our
discussions. Heck who am I going to preach to about electrics!
Please have someone up there enter a note about the electric
you are building when you get it flying. I will be very curious
to see how it goes. Best of luck, hope we meet someday. The
sailplane world is small, I bet we will. I am planning to
come to the NSP Cape fly next year.

                                               Regards,

                                               Jim
BTW- if you want to talk electrics/gliders my home phone is
(716)367-2911, always glad to talk(as you know).
1465.3Don't worry guys, Jim R. wil have an ear in the conference..OLCROW::PHILLIPSDECtp Engineering TAY1-2 DTN 227-4314Wed Nov 11 1992 12:5011
As long as I'm still at DEC, Jim will have an ear(and mouth!) in the conference!
He's been a great help with my RC experience and IS(notice I said "is") a good
friend who'll remain so long after his "temporary vaction" from DEC. The lunch
time flying and hanger session with Jimbo have been some of the most enjoyable
times and will be missed(for the moment!!), but we'll just do more weekend
flying(I can hear both of our wives now!!!!! :-) )

If anyone ever needs to get a message to him, send it to me and I'll make sure
he gets it. Besides, it ain't like he's dying or something!! :-) :-)

1465.4Bye-bye, Jimbo!QUIVER::WALTERWed Nov 11 1992 13:0710
Sorry to see you go, Jimbo. I think between the two of us, we've flown
gliders at every vacant lot bigger than a postage stamp between
Marlboro and Lowell! I know I'll be seeing you occasionally in the
future, but I'll miss the daily discussions on the tube as well as the
ones over a Burger King Slider. Good luck at your next job, and hope
you make it back here soon!

Actually, Dave, I was discussing things with Lamar and discovered that it
really wasn't that much further to stop at Acton or Bose at lunch after
dropping stuff off at UPS in Shrewsbury 8^) I may actually be able to make
MORE of the lunchtime sessions! Makes a nice break in the trip on the way
to Waltham to pick up more foam
1465.6Squeak! Squeak! I am still here :)HPSRAD::AJAIWed Nov 11 1992 16:3325
I know I am not supposed to be here, and this isn't my
DECghost writing, but what with the DEC honcho's muffing
things up, [so what's new?] I have been given a new
lease on my DEC life until 8th Jan, 1993. I was served a
60 day notice this past Monday, so they weren't fooling
me when they said the group was being disbanded.

We will be moved to a different office in MRO - 3 to a
cubicle - so I can get to check my mail and read notes.

I will be Phoenix next week, and expect to hook up with
ol' desert rat himself. If there is stuff someone here
wants to send him, or letters to carry, I'll be more
	  than happy to oblige.

I was figuring I would meet Al as an ex-DECkie, but that
will have to wait until next time.

Sorry to hear that Jimbo is also headed out the door.
Will catch up with the local RCers at one of the
	  assorted meetings...

1465.7So sorry you are going...LEDS::KLINGENBERGThu Nov 12 1992 15:3211
    Jim,

it's really sad to see you leaving this file, even if it's just for a
while. I've enjoyed your entries in both files and learned a lot of it.
And now that you are getting hooked on electrics, we will only read as
much as someone else cares to put in.

I'm looking forward to meeting you a couple more times before leaving
the States and hope to stay in touch,

    Hartmut
1465.8I hope to find everyone still here when I get backHANNAH::REITHJim HANNAH:: Reith DSG1/2E6 235-8039Thu Nov 12 1992 16:0017
Thanks Hartmut. I've learned a lot from my exposure to you and your Race Cat
and Fiesta. The latest Tower order brought my Astro 25 Cobalt last night and
I'm looking forward to giving it a try. The agencies keep calling with job
reqs within DEC so my absence might be short. Hopefully I'll get some building
time in.

I'm sure we'll meet a few more times (I still have some magazines and a charger
8^) and hopefully again in the future after you head home (you are going home?
8^)

As with every contract transition, it's difficult to leave the friends behind
but I've always had the electronic friends of the notesfile from contract to
contract. That makes it more difficult since I've gotten to know more people
better over the 4+ years. I hope I've contributed something back to a notesfile
that has been a major source of information to me. Anyone having questions on
any of my contributions should feel free to write to me or give me a call as
listed in .1
1465.9I'm back!3D::REITHMon Dec 07 1992 14:592
Well, as I warned you, I'm back. I won't be active in the conference
for a while but I can be reached via Email at the above node.

---------------------------------

Hi

Well, a lot of you I know, a lot I don't. Some
only through email, some face-to-face. I appreciate
you all. I am getting the boot (with my blessings)
and am leaving Dec Friday the 26th of Feb. I have
enjoyed the last 5 years (and the two summer jobs
before that). I have learned a lot and have made
many many new friends.

I will be available through email at

[email protected]
(DECWRL::"[email protected]")

but while I can already start to receive mail
there, I won't actually be there for 4-8 weeks.

I hope to stop by in the MA/NH area for a few weeks
before I head off to Utah. I hope to see many of
you there.

I will be doing one of the following things
in Utah (eventually)

1. Grad school in CS

or

2. Working at WordPerfect in the Mac division (maybe?
hopefully?)

or

3. All of the above

or

4. None of the above.

Those are the current plans. I am looking forward to
seeing my friends and family in Utah, to go flying RC
models there (great area except for the altitude) and
to expand my horizons.

Best of luck to you all and DEC

regards
Chad

1465.11Chad is in town for another week3D::REITHJim 3D::Reith MLO1-2/c37 223-2021Tue Mar 30 1993 14:373
Just got off the phone with Chad. We're going to try to get together
this weekend. He just bought a Mac Duo and is busy programming some
stuff on that. He mentioned to say hi to everyone in the notesfile.

If the weekends decent, let me know if you go out flying anyplace.
We need to get some practice in before Al's contest.
1465.13I'll let you know when I'm going to go...3D::REITHJim 3D::Reith MLO1-2/c37 223-2021Tue Mar 30 1993 17:027
I'm supposed to head down to Mansfield to fly power with a college friend
on saturday if the weather is good. Current plan is to take a Gremlin.
The Alcyone sits on my bench waiting to have the covering finished. I'm
running out of time before the contest.

I'm letting the Snowman borrow my backup 2 meter to use up at Al's
contest. If the weather is good he'll probably head out somewhere.

Well, this is it. On Monday afternoon I'm scheduled to be executed
for various unspecified but hideous crimes. I intend to be a
contractor in the afterlife, so I may return to haunt you in the
visage of Son Of Quik Stik. Its been real guys, and I'll miss your
company. I intend to keep flying though, and will not be further than
my AOL address of [email protected].

Maybe some of you have heard, those of you that haven't soon will but
the manufacturing plant in Augusta, Maine announced today that SCI is
in the process of buying us out, lock, stock, and module.
Within this month I will be saying good-bye to alot of names and a
couple of faces. (Sorry Jim! 8*)) It has been enjoyable in this notes
file and I can't begin to tell "ya'll" what I've learned.
I'll be in before I leave to update everyone on the Long-ez and my
Mitchell Superwing Ultralight. Who knows someday you will see a plane
in the air at your local field and no one has control of it could it
be MEEEEE!!!!!! Helled if I know????? 8^))))))

Bruce, sorry to hear you're leaving. Good luck in your future
endeavors. Y'a know, if our numbers keep dwindling like this,
eventually the moderator will be the entire conference.

BTW Bruce, did you ever live/work for DEC in northern NJ? Seems to me
I recognize your name from back when I worked in Parsippanny.
