    I have a 1988 Mazda LX 4dr sedan (non-turbo & non 4WS) with an
    automatic transmission problem. The car runs excellent going forward,
    but reverse doesn't work. The car only has 96k miles and runs and looks
    excellent.
    
    I'm not sure how to get the car checked out. If I bring it to a
    transmission shop, I'm thinking that they will tell me it needs a
    new trnsmission and charge me big $$$ even if it doesn't.
    
    Has anyone had any trnsmission problems with similar Mazda models ?
    
    I'm also thinking of selling the car the way it is, however, I don't
    know what it's worth ?
    
    Any help would be appreciated...Thanks in advance for all replys...

        To fix your particular problem, the transmission has to come out
    and be 90% dis-assembled to fix it.
    At that point, you won't find a rebuilder (including me) that will just
    fix "that problem" The entire autobox can be put back into brand new
    operating condition for slightly more money than just fixing the
    reverse problem. If you insist....you won't get a warranty of any kind.

        No...But I ocasionaly look out the office window and watch the
    younger guys do it. I stopped doing the actual work back in '93 when I
    screwed up my back. Now I simply take the aggravation of part ownership
    of a transmission shop. I can't do much for you since I'm located in
    Co. springs. But I can send you someplace thats reasonable, in your
