| | I think what they might have said is 'Its rare for someone to actually
own a copy'??? I recall it getting slagged in the press, but I don't
see how it can be as bad as the "beauty Stab' - a huge dissapointment
    after the first lp.

Can I take it you go hunting around woolies in B'stoke at lunchtime
too? Check out the bargain bin in WH Smiths - a few 1.99 goodies.

| 597.2 | Its marginal | TLE::LEGERLOTZ | I came.  I saw.  I left. | Thu Feb 08 1990 20:59 | 2 |
| | The music on it is marginal. I think that the 3 or 4 pints that you could buy
with the 3.99 would be a more enjoyable use of the cash 8-)

| | I got it for 1.99 a few years ago. Now that was a bargain! It's got a few good
songs - not their worst album by a long shot.

I'm not going to buy it now. I thought it had been withdrawn or
    something.

    Anyone heard Up?

This ABCs latest album and I've only heard one track from it (One
better world). Is it any good? It got zero plugging on the radio
or in the record shops and so flopped.

Having said that they can make some great music, but seem to lurch
from brilliant to boring from album to album so, IMO, Up should
be boring (although they did have two bad ones in a row (Beauty
    Stab and Zillionare)).

I had a copy of the album `UP'... My personal opinion was that
it was a real let down compared to Albums like Alphabet City and
    their very first album..

It seemed to me to be very much a poppy album, compared to the more
    original stuff..

When Alphabet City came out I was well addicted but the `UP cassette
tends to stay in the cassette box..

| | The latest ABC album is a complilation of all their greatest
hits, Poison Arrow, Look of Love, All of my Heart, Tears are
not Enough, How to be a Millionaire, One Better World, When
Smokey Sings, King without a Crown, Ocean Blue, Be Near Me,
and a few others I can't remember offhand!
The album is called "Absolutely" and their is also a video
   available. Well worth buying.

| 597.8 | UP. Not great but not bad. | CRATE::SAXBY | Is this personal or what? | Mon Aug 20 1990 08:48 | 12 |
| | I picked up Up at the weekend in Our Price for 3.99.

It isn't as good as Lexicon of Love or Alphabet City, but it's better
than Beauty Stab or what I've heard of Zillionaire.

The beat is pretty good, as someone said it's more poppy than the
pretentious (but brilliant) LoL and Alphabet City, the whole thing
lacking the hard edge of the others, but it's pretty pleasant listening
(well I listened to it once so far) and for 3.99 what more could you
want? A 3 star recording I'd say, pleasant but uninspiring.

| 597.9 | New material from ABC. | NEWOA::SAXBY |  | Thu Jul 25 1991 13:09 | 13 |
| |
I was woken by a record this morning, which sounded like ABC, but which
    I didn't recognise.

It turned out to be called Love Conquers All, and sure enough it is a
new entry in the singles chart at no 47. This isn't the best record
they've ever made, but it's a lot better than a lot of stuff around at
the moment, and I suspect it may grow on me.

I'm glad to see/hear that ABC still exists and look forward to a new
    album in the near future.

| | If there is to be a new album, let's hope the single isn't typical. It could
have come off any of the last 3 albums - a pity they haven't got anything new
in the sound.
And yes, I've got all of the albums - I like them!

| | Re the new single.

I thought it sounded pretty typical of UP, but that album has a very
different sound to Alphabet City (IMO), but I don't have 'How to be
a Zillionaire' so can't compare it with that.

I agree that the single doesn't break any new ground, but that doesn't
worry me unduly, after all it's only music. As long as it sounds goods,
    it's ok with me. :^)

So the new ABC album is out and (according to Woolies) lurking in the
middle reaches of the Top 75 albums.

    Anyone heard it yet?
