135.0. "Is it time for a *BASH*?" by IAMOK::FISHER () Tue Jun 07 1994 11:21

In these times of turmoil, might it be appropriate to
have a note in honor of our friends who are leaving?

In fact, may I be so bold as to suggest a party in the coming
weeks? Tensions being so high, weather so nice, and it being
car season -- anyone up for blowing off some steam?

    Skip ?
    Jim ?
    Bruce?
    Eric?
    Tom B. ?
    Chris Roche?
    John M.?

I know there's a bunch of key personnel who wouldn't be able to
attend by virtue of distances, but we'd hoist a few in your
    collective honor.

Isn't it time for a little *FUN* for chrissakes???

Well, I'm pretty busy with my street rodding and auto-electrical activities
but, if the timing was right, I could get involved. ...and my model train
activities take up Wednesday evenings. There'll be a couple of weeks that
we won't have work sessions though and maybe that'd work.

Weekends, for the most part, are out. I have to fly to Winnipeg on the
17th to wire a T bucket, that's how busy I am. Maybe Moscoffian's
Greenhill Park affair over the 4th of July could serve as a gathering point
. I'll be there conducting NSRA vehicle safety inspections for pre-'48
cars on Saturday and Sunday.

    Jim,

Now that's an idea. A weekend affair out at the FF? Perhaps if I'm
really, really nice to my wife she'd tolerate something at my house.
You guys would have to be on best behavior, and I'd probably have to
bubble pak all the fragile items in the house.....

Just jokes...can anyone propose a centrally located spot where we could
congregate? Weekends probably are best for most people.

    Tom,

I see where your leading.. Have it at someone's house as opposed to
a pub, get me to bring my homebrew and then drink it all.. I'm up for
it.. I should have supplemented my supply by then. Jim's idea of the
FF sounds good. I don't mind a long drive. It'll keep me from tossing
    back too many.

Actually gang I'm in Reading England right now, and anticipate
a couple of weeks spent shuttling between Galway, Reading, and Paris
before returning around June 20. Believe it or not, after a long
stay with Digital, July 1 is my last day as well. Not TFSO, but a
voluntary resignation. Come September I'll join the ranks of full time
studets in pursuit of an MBA. Then I can become one of them thar MBA
types that Skip thinks *so* highly of..... 8^)

Let me say that of all the aspects of my eight year career at Digital,
this file is probably the one I'll miss the most. Some of the people
i've met through this forum are now among my dearest friends. It's not
without tremendous sadness that I'll be saying goodbye.

However, here's to hoping that friendships endure physical distances.

Geez, let's *really* try to make something happen, I'm getting kinda
    melancholy for Gawds sake.....

I also volunteer my place (in Acton). I'm on a cul-de-sac, so parking would be
fine for a fair number of vehicles. Maybe group shots, etc. There's a small pond
there in case somebody gets rambunctious and needs to be cooled off :-).

I also vote for a weekend. I figure that it wouldn't take more than three or
four of us to kidnap Skip and force him to attend :-).

Would the 23rd of July work for most folks?

I've pencilled it in, and will vacuum the cul-de-sac to prepare for all the
precious iron that may inhabit it :-). Directions to follow if Acton is actually
OK with most folks.

Bruce

PS - I'm not religious about that date, BTW, but it'll give Skip some time to
get the 440 on the road so I can blow his doors off :-).

PPS - CARBUFF folks are not invited. What if somebody shows up with Japanese
iron and Skip is forced to demonstrate rust-resistance characteristics by
throwing it into the pond? :-) Jim, are you listening? :-)

    Hey Bruce,

The 23rd is my birthday! A significant one at that..
Anyone care to hazard a guess which one? Actually I've got no problem
with the 23rd. In fact I'll probably wear my latest birthday sweater
that I'm certain to receive. Every year it's the same. Ask my mum
for a air tools, get a sweater.

    Bummer.

Actually Bruce, you may not need to vacuum the cul-de-sac. In fact,
just provide enough kitty litter to sop up the oil that dribbles
out of the timing cover of el dungheap Malibu....

Alright guys - let's get some damned commitment here. Who's in?
Readio better make it, or I'll trade the Chevy on a freakin Honda.

Let's get some names on the dotted line. Bruce, are you envisioning a

    refreshments.

Geez, late yesterday afternoon I got a notification that I might have to fly
to Atlanta and bring home a car. Why that weekend? because it was the
only free one I had left to do it on. The 16th got scoffed up with a
benefit for a friend who's just undergone a lung removal (for the big C) and
I have a meeting in Vernon, CT for the Northeast Rod Run on the 17th.

If it was the 16th I could possibly work both in as the benefit's to be
held in Tewksbury.

R
135.21The scoop is.............SANTEE::AUGENSTEINMon Jul 11 1994 11:5768
.........it's on.

I've been off since the 28th, on a driving trip through the south, with a key
stop at Meridian, Mississippi. What on earth would possess someone to spend time
in Meridian in JULY? Well, Rich (#1 son) is now an official Naval Aviator,
having gotten his wings in a very impressive ceremony. He was "Top Attack" in
his class, having the highest overall scoring in bombs and guns (strafing). "Top
Gun" (best in air combat manuevers) was won by another hot hand, in an extremely
impressive group of young and confident warriors.

Rich was assigned F/A-18s as his specialty, which was his first choice in the
"dream sheet" that the Navy asks every prospective winging candidate to
complete. Actually he would've still been happy with either F-14s or A-6s, with
his only nightmare being assigned as an S-3 jockey - S-3s being a radar/sonar
aircraft largely used for sub hunting in a decidedly subsonic manner, and
lacking any ability to shoot back, which was a key need in Richard's mind :-).

Where was I?

Oh, right, the Musclecars Confab :-).

Anyway, the Augenstein household is set for a meeting of the faithful on the
23rd, starting around 11 A.M. Although the Augenstein place pales in comparison
to the Fantasy Factory in terms of marvelous things to see, we'll be able to
hang out a bit, watch video tapes (bring whatever you think will be of
interest), play a little pool down the cellar, and do the barbecue 'til it melts
down. Bring beer or soft drinks - we'll take care of the rest.

To get to my place at: 7 Patrick Henry Circle
		       Acton MA.
		       (508)263-3568

from points west, north or south:

Get to route 495, and take that to route 111 east (marked for Boxboro). The 111
exit is around 17 miles north of the Mass. Pike, 9 miles north of route 290, and
about 3 miles south of route 2.

Take 111 east about 2 1/2 miles to Summer Street, where you will go right.
Summer winds around a bit (mostly to the left), and you will come abruptly on
the intersection with Ethan Allen exactly 1/2 mile from 111. Go right on Ethan
Allen (there is no left) for 2/10ths of a mile to your second left onto Paul
Revere. Note that Paul Revere is also your *first* left, but don't let that
worry you.

After making the left onto Paul Revere, go right on Patrick Henry less than 100
yards later. There are only five houses on Patrick Henry, and we are the last
one, right at the back of the cul-de-sac, up on a hill.

From points east, take route 2 west to about 2 1/2 miles west of the Concord
rotary - to 111 west (exit on the left from route 2). Take 111 west about 2 1/2
miles (1 mile past second light) to Summer Street, where you will make a *left*.
Then follow Summer 1/2 mile to Ethan Allen, Paul Revere, etc., as above. If
route 2 isn't easily available to you, get to route 495 and follow those
directions.

OK. Who's coming?

Bruce

PS - As an option, before getting together at my place, we may want to consider
either meeting at New England Dragway early in the day for some fun and games
before the barbecue, videos, beer and pocket pool at my place - or, if that's
not reasonable, perhaps a visit to the Transportation Museum in Brookline might
be a good idea?

Failing either alternative, it'll be my place at 11, where we can tell lies in
reasonable privacy :-).

do this in the Fall?

No offense, Rich, but if it's just you and me, we might as well pop up to NED

Anyhoo, just pipe up now if you plan to be there on Saturday.

OK, we'll reschedule for the Fall.

I still volunteer my place (and Jim's place too), whether or not either of us
are still with The Firm. (Right now, it looks as if the Computer Systems
Division will be taking the most serious hits (40% TFSO rate, or 14k out of 35k
people) over the next several months, with marketing and sales losing as much as
75% of current headcount, according to current hot rumor - leaving me in a
