1630.0. "Like so many others, DECRCM has been TFSO'D" by SNAX::SMITH (I FEEL THE NEED) Tue Oct 04 1994 16:35

It appears that DECRCM may be gone forever. The system has been
shutdown and is scheduled to be deinstalled. I am currently talking
with the system manager about saving the data, possibly to be relocated
    to another system.

If DECRCM is to continue, we will need to find another home for it.
There's nothing here in Hudson that I can use. Can anyone else offer a
    home.

Something else to consider is, with the current rate of decline in RC
noters, is it even worth finding another home. Should we just say
so long to DECRCM and live with RC notes until were all gone from here
    also.

At any rate, the system has been shutdown for good as of today so you
will no longer be able to access DECRCM. 8^(

I will miss DECRCM, in fact I was lucky enough to get some information
on JR trainer cords before the system was turned off this morning!

In a way I think having DECRCM as a separate file from the RC note
was not a great idea. Dividing the information between two notes
files was not convenient. For instance the DECRCM file had much more
JR radio information than the RC notes file.

The writing appears to be on the wall - RC notes is dying. Too bad
because the REC file is vastly inferior. It was fun while it lasted!

    Regards,

    Jim

Maybe we can get the DECRCM file restored and pull out some of the info.
I've got space on my workstation (93K blocks...and if I clean up an old save
set I can boost that to over 200K) so I could take a copy of the file and
work on migrating the information.

I don't think it is worth keeping 2 files open anymore.

So Steve, if you can get the file, I can work on it.

I agree, I hope there is somewhere that we can save this information,
because in all my poking around the internet, there is nothing that
even comes remotely close to the amount excellent information found
in these notes files. -sigh-

On another note, were any of you serious when you were talking about
starting up an alt.rc.hta or whatever? I miss the smart a** banter from
several of the departed contributers, and I'm afraid a forum as large
as rec.models.rc is not the place for such "discussions".

I would love to see this happen! Does anyone have any idea how you go
about doing this?

1630.5Roll call needed35989::BLUMJWed Oct 05 1994 11:596
I think it is time to do another roll call. The file is so inactive at
this point that it has more archive value than real-time answers.
When you post notes and do not receive any replies, it's time to
move on. I think we are nearly at this point.

    I am still here.
1630.6I'm here...but I'm not happy....MR3MI1::JCAVANAGHJim Cavanagh MRO3-3/N20 297-4590Wed Oct 05 1994 12:3611

You know we're in trouble when we have to do monthly (weekly?) roll calls
to see who's still here. :^(

            Jim

P.S. At least we won't have to go through another battle about whether we
need 2 files or not! It's been decided *for* us! :^(

1630.10Looks like it's too late.SNAX::SMITHI FEEL THE NEEDWed Oct 05 1994 13:549
Unfortunately, the system has already been deinstalled as well as
the attached devices (disks). I've already talked to a couple of
people (like Eric) and no one knows which disk the notesfile resided
on and no one in Marlboro will look.

Oh well, I would like to have gotten some information out of the file
before it went away, but guess not.

    I'm still here.

Still here, but no good excuse for it.

By the way, Jim Reith informed me that he took an offer
to contract for the Pathworks group in my building (LKG),
so he should be back on line by next week. He was unemployed
    for all of 4 hours.

It's been quite some time (years) but Im still interested in the
notes. I could'nt find it for a while after it moved. I've just
recently been bitten again by the bug, and it may still take some
time to become fully involved ( read that money) but I've taken
the first steps. I quit flying shortly after 1991. I was in fear
of losing my job, my landlord was lossing his house, and the 1991
frequency change ment buying a new radio, so, R/C took a back seat.
So, with a new radio on my christmas, and a few rolls of covering.
I should be back in the air early in 95.
