1364.0. "AMA News "Inquiring minds want to know"" by SA1794::TENEROWICZT () Mon Sep 30 1991 08:56

    		"What's up with the AMA?"

That was one of the questions at my last club meeting. It seems
tha one of my club's older modelers has been getting calls on a
daily basis from the AMA and a number of New England modelers
that are closely tied to the AMA. From what I can gather it
seems that things are not so happy in AMAville. Has anyone
picked up on the request for us to pay two years dues in advance.
Ya that's right. AMA wants all of it's members to pay for their
1992 ans 1993 dues this fall. WHY? WHy would the AMA need
    12 million dollars so quickly?

ALso has anyone heard anythng about the staff of the AMA resigning?
Seems that a number of the upper staff of the AMA are planning
on resigning come the end of this year. Along with all or most
of the hourly workers who for the most part are women and utilize
the AMA jobs as second jobs for their families in the Washington
area. Seems they will be leaving and not making the move to Muncie
    Ind.

Oh yes and Muncie, The future home of all AMA Nats even if they won't
admit it. Did anyone know that the AMA has a 15,000,000.00 dollar
loan coming due to cover the purchase of the Muncie land? That's
something else welearned at our last club meeting.

SO, AMA wants 12,000,000.00 from the membership.

They owe 15,000,000.00 for the Muncie land.

THe hourly staff for the most part is quiting when the Muncie move
    happens.

A large portion of the Higher level staff is also quiting.

Anyone heard anything else through the grape vine??

    Tom

1364.1Lower operating costs too.ELMAGO::TTOMBAUGHGo ahead...make my plane.Mon Sep 30 1991 10:5726
I doubt if they paid anything like 15 meg for the Muncie land.
$800K-1.5 meg, is the number that comes to mind, from numbers published
in MA over the past few years.

Land in that area simply isn't worth that much, but the Indiana
farmers (a group from which I sprang) probably made out pretty good
on the deal even at the lower price.

I've received an "offer" to renew for two years. No doubt this would
give the AMA a chunk of interest bearing cash all at once and make
it unecessary to deal with the administrative load during the '93
renewal period when they will be operating with mostly new office
staff. I'm sticking with one year renewal.

No doubt they will be losing much of their office staff. Not unusual
in that type of move. They'll be able to pick up new workers in
Muncie faster than you can plow a row of beans.

Haven't heard anything about the higher level staff quitting, but
wouldn't be surprising if they had to move to Muncie.

Strictly as a site, Muncie is as good as nearly any Nats site of
the past, and better than most, except for the chance of rain.

1364.2pay extra for 2 year renewalPOBOX::KAPLOWSet the WAYBACK machine for 1982Mon Sep 30 1991 17:088
I was wondering about my renewal too. $40 for one year, or $90 for
2 years? What gives? Pay an extra $10 to save having to pay again
        next year?

I'm also rather disappointed to find out that my District VP bozo
(Jim Sears, District 6) is running unopposed. Every other district
has at least 2 candidates running. I think I will write in my own
name, rather than vote for him.

Yea, and doesn't it also say "SAVE $10.00"?? Does that mean that they
expect the dues to go up to $60 for 1993??

    Pretty big jump...

You missed a point [worth missing].

    You get for instead of
    ----------------------	--------	----------

    year 1 $40 same

    year 2 $40 same

plastic ID card year 1	$10 same

plastic ID card year 2	no charge	$10
    				--- ---
    				$90 $100

Frankly, I wouldn't pay a dime for the ID card unless I were an AMA
official. They act like it was a great thing.

Besides, you have to make out the application each year even if you
have paid in advance --- just to assure them that you will not sue the
    AMA. Paranoid pinheads!
