1298.0. "Sailplane inventory" by USRCV1::BLUMJ () Wed Feb 27 1991 16:27

    I would like to know what everyone is flying this year or has in
    the hangar. It would be nice to know what we all have for future
    reference,questions, etc.  I'll start:

    Flyable - Dynaflite Apogee(100",Eppler 205, built up construction)
              Graupner Elektro-UHU(66" modified Eppler 193, 7-cell)
              Algebra(151", polyhedral, Selig 3021, glass&foam)

    On the bench- Sagitta 600 w/ ailerons and modified fuselage

    To be rebuilt- Paragon, 118" polyhedral, built up construction

    Sounds good but it should probably be moved to a separate note or it
    won't be of much use...

    Gnome HLG with thickened E205 airfoil (this is stock)
    	2nd wing with S-3014 airfoil in an effort to improve penetration
    	(on bench)

    Gentle Lady - Modified fuselage, enlarged rudder, flaps
    	I want to build another fuselage to fix some of the mistakes in
    	slimming down the first one

    Cloud Bound 99 - scratch built from 1975 plans. Full flying V tail with
    	flaps. Currently half way done. Goal is maiden flight in late March.

    I've got a "disposable" slope soarer in process as a "while glue dries"
    project. aileron & elevator in a pod and boom configuration.

    I'm also looking through the NorthEast Sailplanes catalog. I really
    like the Oly IIs I've seen fly recently... (myu winter building queue
    keeps getting longer ;^)

    Flying:     Olympic II

    Building: my own design slope ship w/ foam/glass wings and
        fuselage of undetermined construction.
            The goal here is to get something that is CHEAP and QUICK to
        build... I understand that crashes are the normal way to end
        a day of slope flying... :-)

    Would like to build (but will probably never get around to do it):
      - Glider wings for my ElectroStreak (like was in RCM a few months ago)
      - Olympic II powered with Cobalt 15 geared.

    [Also some other projects that don't belong in a "glider" topic...]

1298.7This year's glidersHPSPWR::WALTERThu Feb 28 1991 21:3119
    Flying:	Predator - Own design 1.5 meter HLG

    		Prophet 941 - 100" polyhedral with spoilers from Davey
    		Systems

    In hanger:	Astro Challenger - Cobalt 05 electric 2 meter (no damage,
    		removed radio)

    		Flinger - 1.5 meter HLG from Larry Jolly. (flyable, removed
    		radio. May use it on slope this summer)

    Need:	2 meter for competition! Sold my Metrick, have nothing to
    		replace it.

    		Aileron slope soarer! Would like to design my own, but I'm
    		forcing myself to finish the UltraSport first.

    Dave

1298.8Pretty pitiful huh?ASABET::CAVANAGHFri Mar 01 1991 09:3615
    About to fly: House of Balsa 2x4 HLG - just need to install a
                                            radio (minor detail).

    About to build: Dave Walter Predator HLG

               Jim

  P.S. Kevin Ladd - I'm glad everyone is ignoring you entry! 8^)
                     BTW - I want to be there the first time you
                           hook that sucker up to a high-start!

1298.9Contents of a UK hangar...NEWOA::NEALEIci on parle EuropenMon Mar 04 1991 05:1820

    Flying:	Sailplanes International Osprey 100" (fairly conventional,
    built-up wings, ply/balsa fuselage, R/E). Launches well off 50m (~135')
    bungee using cheap elastic cord (not surgical rubber) - as long as
    there's a little wind. Hey, for the price of a length of surgical
    rubber, I can build another glider!

    Backup:	Topaz Amethyst (UK kit - very like Gentle Lady, but
    straight, not polyhedral wings). 78", R/E. This was my first model, and
    now kept as reserve because the Osprey is so much fun :-).

    Building:	Wristocrat HLG. Wing nearly finished (with flap option).
    Now depressed at the cost of micro servos in the UK!

    This year's project - go flying instead of building. In the last year I
    have gone from scratch to "launch/fly around/land in same field without
    major incident". Now, just where did I put those thermals...?

1298.10Yet another ChuperosaELMAGO::TTOMBAUGHA Fistful of EpoxyMon Mar 04 1991 10:2310
    The hobby shop has a March Madness sale going on. I picked up
    a Chuperosa HLG for $35. Foam wing, poly, S4061 airfoil.
    So the Legend project will get pushed back until the Chup'
    is done. FIn and stab complete. Both fuse. sides done.
    The drafting conventions used on the plans are annoying, but a pretty
    nice little plane. Will use two S-33 servos and Vanguard PCM.
    It will be just the right size to fly out of our smaller park until
    the soccer season is over and we get our big field back.

I just ordered a Genesis.

I'd do anything to get a lighter wing loading than Dave Walter's Predator :-)
