1074.0. "decrcm???" by MAMTS1::BDONAGHY () Tue Aug 08 1989 14:46

    I have a very stupid question. What is the DECRCM ? I
    know it stands for DEC remote control modelers, but
    Where is it?
    Who are members?
    What are the advantages of belonging?
    How much does it cost?
    What advantage is it to a guy who lives in Phila.,Pa.?

    I have been reading this notes file on and off for about a year.
    I have read almost every note or at least viewed the topics?

    If anybody can piont me to a note already written or answer my
    questions I would greatful.

    Thanks in advance !

    Bob in Phila. Pa.

It is all over the world - welcome to network computing.

>    Who are members?

Most noters.

> What are the advantages of belonging?

Authorized use of some DEC resources such as
1.  This notes file.
2.  The DEC mail system.
3.  Copiers.
4.  Compute time.

All the things you would probably do anyway but since we are
a recognized member of DEC's recreational structure we can do
it without guilt.

> How much does it cost?

Free

> What advantage is it to a guy who lives in Phila.,Pa.?

All above plus you can get on the Video distribution list tho
this is not strictly free as we solicit for $1.00 per person per video
and use the money to purchase more videos.

To join Bob all you have to do is set host to node K::
and login as DECRCM.

P.S. Kevin Ladd and I may be in Philly in two weeks for the next scale
      qualifier - go watch it even if we don't make it.

1074.5Another fly in the ratholeTEKTRM::REITHJim Reith DTN 235-8459 HANNAH::REITHWed Aug 09 1989 17:5714
I tried to register and run into a different problem...

I'm a Contractor...

No employee badge number (I have a badge and it has a number but 4003?? ;^)

I can understand that you can't ELF and track me but I've enjoyed going
through this stuff while waiting for compiles. I've been here 1+ years and
just got extended through 3/90

And, more importantly, I'm going to get back into the air this weekend for the
1st time in 3+ years (since I built my house) the weatherman willing ;^)

    re: .5 contractors

    I believe DEC clubs and organizations are intended to be for employees -
    contractors get a different set of perks. In the case of DECRCM, I see
    no practical difference if you are a not formally a member, other than
    the annual election of officers. You may still attend meetings, fun flys
    (on your own time!) etc.

    I suppose someone could investigate if we could allow non-employees to
    be members or not, and we could then decide whether or not to modify the
    by-laws. It might become an issue if we ever get a flying site on DEC
    property.

    There are other contractors that are active in this notes file and
    active flyers and we aren't inclined to discriminate against them too
    much (unless they're tall with black hair and fly electrics and gliders
    and have the initials RC):-) Only kidding - there is one contractor
    currently working for me (the one previously hinted at) who flies with
    us at lunch time at CMRCM, and a previous contractor who still joins us
    on occasion.

    Contractors have been freely accessing notes conferences, and there is
    even a conference set up for contractors, so there is no problem with
    contractors being welcome in this conference.

That has already been done - DECRCM is an official recognized DEC club.

That is a rat hole that has many many previous notes written about it.

P.S. I deleted note 1047.4 as per Eric Henderson's request.

1074.9DECRCM conference locationABACUS::RYDERperpetually the bewildered beginnerThu May 09 1991 08:2611
    The DECRCM conference is at CSVM14::DECRCM; press KP7 to add the entry.

    Or type this command:
    				Notes> ADD ENTRY CSVM14::DECRCM

    This conference, RC, tends to be the "how to" conference; the DECRCM
    conference tends to be the greater Maynard/Marlboro lunchtime flying
    discussion.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    I'll delete/move this side discussion this weekend.
1074.10DECRCM has moved (to a hidden area!)N25480::FRIEDRICHSKeep'm straight 'n levelThu Jan 16 1992 16:4713
    Well DECRCM and all the other notes on CSVM14 moved today as expected.

    However, as someone pointed out just before the move, the node is going
    to be in a hidden area 63.???.

    So, anyone outside of the MRO facility will need to know the name of
    a routing node that we can go through to get to the conferences.

    Whomever finds out first, would you please post it here??

    Thanks
    jeff

1074.11An Update on the DECRCM notes fileCSTEAM::BURSTALLThu Jan 16 1992 18:016
    Just a note. CSVM14:: the node containing the DECRCM notes file will
    NOT be in the hidden area. As soon as the new address is known I will
    post it here. In addition I will send a mail messages to those who
    normally access it.

your NETUPDATE will do the update automatically.

If you do not want to wait for the DECnet database update, you can modify
your entry for this conference using the command

	modify entry /file=7262::decrcm.note

1074.14New DECRCM conference address this weekHANNAH::REITHJim HANNAH:: Reith DSG1/2E6 235-8039Tue Jun 23 1992 10:083
The DECRCM conference has moved again. The conference now resides on
csteam::decrcm. There will be some teething pains but it should (eventually)
be more available in it's new home.
