| I enjoy the iron on gapless. It can be tricky sometimes to apply,
especially to a thick surface (most of my trouble came when I tried
to use it to attach ailerons) One word of advise if you choose this
root is to put a dab of glue at each end of the hinge to prevent
unraveling of the stitch.

| For the rudder try a "Tape" hinge.
Prepare the training edge of the vertical the typical way.
Bevel the leading edge of the rudder at a 45 degree angle from
one side of the rudder to the other.After covering place the rudder
up to the vertical stab and place a piece of vynal tape at the
intersection. Deflect the rudder and place a second piece of tape
from the opposite side.
This works great. Is gapless and won't rip off.

| All my planes wear Sig EZ hinges or they wear nothing at all.
Seriously - check them out - easy to install and easy to get nearly
gapless cause you check the gap before you ZAP.
Carried by all good hobby shops - they are the greatest thing for
modeling since CA and MonoKote(tho I don't use MonoKote much anymore).

| You might try foremost gapless hinges. I have them on my electra,
my Oly II and a couple of power planes, they are gapless and very
strong.

921.5 | "Easy Hinges"!! The only way to fly . | VERSA::TULANKO | | Wed Mar 08 1989 10:59 | 13 |

I agree with Kay , "Easy Hinges" are the best of the rest and
mean just that, "EASY" ! I have a friend upstairs that tried the
Granite State hinges on a trainer and said they were fine too ,
but Easy Hinges are still the favorite .use them to connect your
control surfaces before covering , then cover with Monokote or equiv.
and wind up with a surface thats strong , airtight and fuelproof.
Good luck with your decision,
Carl

921.6 | I'd never use simple sticky tape after today. | ABACUS::RYDER | perpetually the bewildered beginner | Mon Jun 17 1991 00:47 | 6 |
| The glider contest today was flown in the rain and drizzle all day.
The grass was wet, the sky was wet, the pilots were wet, and the planes
were wet. Jeff suggested to Mike Stains that simple sticky tape such
as Scotch mending tape was not safe in the rain. He was right; when
Mike checked his elevator, he found that the adhesive had failed. The
hinge had zero strength!

| Actually, Steve Shommer was talking about it.. Afterwards, Mike stated
how he had never had that problem with tape... Just to be sure, we
checked it out... Sure enough, the tape was dissolving!

921.8 | Rain ? whazzat? | ELMAGO::TTOMBAUGH | A Fistful of Epoxy | Mon Jun 17 1991 10:53 | 9 |
| The very last problem I'll ever have to worry about is flying in
the rain with tape hinges, but I'm wondering how the tape that comes
in the Legend kit will work in general.
Doesn't Anker have a Legend? How did its hinges fare ?
The hinge material in the kit comes in long pre-cut strips and is
different than Scotch or 3M tape.

Terry,
The Lagend standard tape hinges performed flawlessly. Of
course they were applied on dry Ultracote. I have no idea how
they would have worked if applied in wet weather.
