227.115Oil consumptionALFA2::HARRISThu May 08 1997 15:478
    Do certain Chrysler-built engines have a higher-than-average rate of
    oil consumption? My 1991 Plymouth Acclaim 2.5L (I-4) has always needed
    oil between changes and now, with 107K+ miles on it, seems to consume
    about a quart every 700 miles, perhaps less. In contrast, an
    older Chevrolet Celebrity 2.5L of ours with 140K+ miles burns next to
    none at all. What gives? Poor quality control?

    I have a Dodge Spirit (2.5 L Turbo) so far, no oil burning and it is
    just a bit shy of 190K miles. Runs like a (raped ape), and I have had
    no major problems.

    My chevy cav, (2X) both used about 1 qt every 2k miles.

    Dodge gets 20-50 Turbo rated oil, and in the winter has a heater on the
    oil to help keep it thinner.

My '84 2.6L (Mitsu) motor burns about a quart every 2K.
It has about 160K on it and has done this since new
according to first owner (140K miles).

    my first and second-hand experience with a couple dozen new cars of
    varying makes over the past half-dozen years is that most engines from
    just about any manufacturer burn very little oil.. well under 1qt/3k ..
    but some just burn a lot.. "many" manufacturers say anything under
    1qt/500mi is "normal" ..

    Large numbers, long tail on the probability distribution..

227.119'93 Shadow 2.5, occasional stallsLGP30::FLEISCHERwithout vision the people perish (DTN 381-0426 ZKO1-1)Mon May 19 1997 20:0214
My '93 Dodge Shadow with 2.5 TBI engine (and 75K miles) has begun to stall
occasionally. It stalls after it has warmed up. It sometimes takes a lot of
cranking to get it started again.

The computer gives no error codes. The spark plugs are new.

I've only had this car about a half year, so I don't know its extended history.

It also idles a bit roughly.

Any suggestions of what to check?

Thanks,
Bob

Had problems with mine this spring - Idled rough, hesitated, stalled as it
warmed up. Fuel cleaner seems to have fixed it up.

        After the most recent stall I was able to pick up the
        computer codes 11 and 12. Anyone know what they mean?

        Bob
227.122There is a list in here of codes.JULIET::ROYERGreening up our lives.Wed May 21 1997 11:279
    Do not recall seeing the 11 but the 12 for a 2.5 L turbo is "from
    memory" Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor. I have a lot of
    these little plastic tubes that go everywhere, I just find the one that
    is disconnected/broken, reconnect or replace it and that is usually it.
    I actually replaced the MAP sensor without a change.

    The turbo is nice, but a royal pain in the rectum to work on.
