465.0. "the new Bugatti" by LEMAN::CHEVAUX (Patrick Chevaux, E-ACT Public Sector, GVO, DTN 888-x276) Tue Jan 24 1989 17:07

I have not been able to find much info on this new project other
    than

. the trademark BUGATTI has been awarded to a new company
. Paolo Stanzani is the head of technical design
    . they are designing a 60 deg. V12 of 3.5 litre capacity (4 ohc
      and 4 valves/cyl)
. as already discussed in the Cizeta Moroder topic a GT car should
appear in the next 2 years. It will be powered by the above engine
and its body has been designed by Marcello Gandini

Photos/drawings/artist's view of the project or any interesting
    info most welcome

465.5Stanzani is goneNCEIS1::CHEVAUXPatrick Chevaux, Nice, 828-6995Mon Aug 13 1990 18:1710
Undisclosed problems at Bugatti : the board of directors and Paolo
Stanzani reached a point of STRONG disagreement a couple of weeks
ago. As a result Paolo Stanzani has left.

The current schedule is : engine is working, 4WD is designed,
lightweight shell, platform, body development is unknown. Car may
be previewed at Paris Show this oct. Public launch and 1st deliveries
    in 1991.

Departure of Stanzani may well affect the development and the schedules.
465.6some news (testing at Nrburgring)NCEIS1::CHEVAUXPatrick Chevaux, Nice, 828-6995Wed Jul 03 1991 10:3118
Sport Auto of July has 4 pages on the new Bugatti 110.

Proto No 3 (french racing blue) is under test at the Nrburgring (the
old 2.7km circuit) driven by Jean-Philippe Vittecocq (previously chief
    test driver at Michelin).

The car is reported to be in the very final stages of development (the
Nrburgring tests were planned to verify a number of things with the
suspension in GT rather than racetrack setup)

Public presentation of the car with its real body is still planned for
September in a place TBD (Frankfurt Auto Show, Paris ?).

From the Sport Auto article the new Bugatti seems to be the real SUPER
    CAR compared to Porsche 959, F40, Diablo, XJR15, ... 4WD like the 959
but much lighter and powered by 540bhp (and a lot of torque), extremely
build quality, made with excellent but very expensive components it
will be THE exclusive car of the moment. First shipment next year.

    More details:

The new EB110 (final name ?) will be introduced at the old Bugatti
factory in Molsheim during a 3 day fiesta 13-15th sept. The theme will
be around the 110th anniversary of Ettore Bugatti birthdate.

The factory should be open to visitors on the Sunday 15th Sep. I'm sure
the new car will be visible then. The town of Molsheim will participate
    in the anniversary.

Molsheim is located in Alsace, some 30 km south west of Strasbourg
    approximately.

Not far from the Schlumpf museu in Mulhouse, which will probably
want to add the EB110 to its huge collection of Bugattis.

    William.
465.9it's real !ULYSSE::CHEVAUXPatrick Chevaux @VBE, DTN 828-5584Mon Sep 16 1991 12:1814
All french TV programmes have shown the new EB110 which was rolled out
of the Molsheim factory last saturday (14-Sep-1991). Painted French
racing blue it differs slightly from the various prototypes that have
been seen this year. The lines are from Marcello Gandini and are
smoother than those of the protos.

No doubt that all auto mags will have a story and photos very soon.

Apparently the Bugatti is the sum of waht is to be found in the other
    supercars : 4WD, 300+kph, 3.5 ltr quad turbo engine, 18" wheels. A
world premiere is the carbon/kevlar chassis. At the intro they did not
say whether the production cars will have carbon brakes or not.

    Price: 3-4 MFF

    .10 Who makes 18" tyres?!?!?!?

    Mark,

Many race cars use 18 and 19" tyres (Sports Cars, Deutsche Saloons). I
can't remember who supplies tyres to Bugatti but I'll find out. A lot
of the final testing has been conducted on Michelin's test track near
the Clermont-Ferrand factory so it could well be Michelin.

    Thanks,

From my recollection, most racing tyres are not road legal (even if
they have tread), but no doubt someone will build tyres this big
if there's a demand provided the profit is big enough (even if it
    is in PR value).

PS I wonder if Micheldever have got any in yet? :^)

465.15(bad) newsLEMAN::CHEVAUXPatrick Chevaux @GEO, DTN 821-4150Fri Jul 28 1995 17:4915
    Some (bad) news:

    - Bugatti are not going well. They need some cash in order to move
forward but conventional investors are not terribly interested.

    - The EB112 project is stalled because of lack of funds. Giugiaro is
not really happy about this since he has been a partner in this
venture. Should the project be cancelled he loses everything.

    - Bugatti is a formidable expertise center, so the bargaining may just
be a conspiration in order to acquire the company at a good price.

    - the Lotus deal also collapsed. Lotus is still owned by Bugatti.

    - stay tuned ...
