AJ,
I have a few air cleaner assemblies and a good ram-air
base snout if interested. One of them may be right for your
Shelby. BTW is your GT500 an R or Q code 428?

Tom,
All 69-70 500s are R codes save 1. As for the one thats a Q, it
doesn't make sense since the only diff between an q and a r
is the shaker, Shelbys don't have shakers, there is a direct
feed from the middle scoop into the intake. So the Q code and
the R code are exactly the same car execpt for the letter
desingnation in the VIN. What are the cleaner assemblies off
of? Iam looking for a decent pair of bigblock shock towers. Some
chucklehead welded the bigblock braces to the towers, although
it's not easy to see and it looks o.k. it's not right so...

AJ,
Something sounds strange - that Shelby should have the shock
tower braces from the factory (It sounds like someone added them
after the car was built) as did all big block Ford pony cars built after
late 1967.
Also, the air cleaners are off of miscellaneous big block Fords.

Tom, it has the braces. Somebody took a mig welder and welded along
the outside edge of the braces for reinforcement. If you look at
factory braces there is a 1/8 inch space along the edge, not weld.
It looks fine except it's not the way it's supposed to be. It wouldn't
be a problem if I was just restoring the car as a driver, in fact Iam
sure it's much stronger than factory. I could cut away the weld but
its hard to tell what is the weld and what is the brace.

| I have several parts for 69 through 71 Mustangs.
1 console for a 69/70. It is brown and has three roll lid (possibly
out of a Cougar) but is missing the wood grain center insert which
I used in my Mach. It is identical to the one in my 70 Mach except
for color. It has the full length box with no button latch.
2 right hand aluminum rocker moldings for a 70 Mach (door piece only).
1 clock dash pod complete with clock.(clock needs the rubber o ring
replaced and a quartz mechanism which I had done to the one in my
car for $80.00 in Colorado Springs).
1 1971 autolite 4V carburetor.
I probably have more parts that don't come to mind, and will end up
with even more after my restoration is complete.
I need a 3 row radiator and a grill bracket (part # 8232 I think) for
a 70 Mach if anyone has them in exellent shape. Maybe we could trade.

30.13 | 66 Mustang Misc parts wanted... | OAW::MILLER | James' & Joy's Daddy... | Thu Jun 04 1992 15:34 | 20 |
| Hello fellow Muscle_fans...
What I am looking for is a few items for my 66 289 Mustang Coupe.
o Floor panels, both sides, front and rear
o Rear end springs, HD or a lift kit for the leaf springs.
o Complete drivers seat *FRAME*. Mine broke. I can recover
o Headliner, black
I don't want to do a full restoration on this, my daily driver, I just
want it to look good and run well. I've got the running well part
pretty much finished, with the exception of an overheating problem
(which you guys have given me some *great* ideas) and the front
suspension needs some tweeking...

Why not call Sacramento Mustang, or Mustangs Unlimited, etc. etc.
Pick up any Ford/Mustang magazine and you will find about 50

That's the sweet part about owning a first generation `Stang - parts
are abundant and pricing is VERY competitive!

Pat,
If I were you, Buy the interior parts New from either Mustangs
Unlimited, or any other Mustang Parts dealer. The Head liners are $15
or $20 bucks I think. New coil springs, and Floor sub frames, and
torque Boxes are not too expensive either. I have found out that
some things in a Junk yard are just as expensive as if I were to buy
the New part.
Sometimes you will have a choice of either FOMOCO / AutoLite or the
Replica Part to choose from for your Pony.
/Bob
Some parts may be on Back order when ordering, Simply because
Suimmer is here and many Mustanger's are into restoration now. Took
me 4 weeks just for 1 can of Vynel die.

As the owner of a Boss 351 I can assure you it uses the Autolite
Carb . It was specially calibrated to run with the engine . The 1972
version was called an H.O. If you have pieces of the original carb
try and rebuild it cause as I mentioned it was a specially calibrated
unit . A lot of the Ram Air carbs used by several of the big 3 were
that way . Ram Air Pontiacs are a good example . I was very lucky
on my 455HO T/A that when the guy swapped out the Q-Jet he kept the
old carb cause there is a difference . Also 71 was the Boss 351 year .
Happy Bossing .

| Looking for a complete 9" Ford rear end.....including backing plates
and drums. I'd prefer the 31 spline axles if possible. The axle
flange to axle flange distance (outside dimension) must be between 60"
& 60 1/2". Traction Lok differential would be nice, but not a
necessity.
Any assistance would be appreciated, even if someone knows of a listing
that a magazine or Ford parts book might have that would give years &
dimensions (housing length, flange to flange distance, etc.). Most of
the Fords that I've been able to get at in the junk yards are wider
than what I'm looking for (63" and up).

| The rear end is for a swap into a '62 Chevy, and the dimensions I gave
are the existing rear end dimensions. I'll have to cut the old perchs
off the 9" and weld the upper and lower control arms from my rear end
onto it. Sooo.....it really doesn't make any difference what the 9"
has on it, as it has no chance of lining up with my mounts. The '62
has the coil mounting pads on the lower control arms.
What I'm looking for is (in lieu of a rear end) a listing of how wide
etc. the various 9" rears were in the various Ford cars and trucks.
BTW, I came across a bunch of old Torinos (even a Falcon version) and
Montegos in my initial junk yard hunt. It was Dufours junk yard in
Lancaster, but I can't tell you the exact years of the cars.

| The 9" out of a HiPo Mustang is 59" flange to flange, and a little too
tight to fit in the Chevy w/o a smaller tire....plus it has 28 spline
axles, which I'd rather avoid. Would the Cougar be any different?
As far as Dufours Junk Yard, Take route 2 west, past 495, to exit 35
(rt 70). Go left on 70 toward Lancaster center (back over rt 2), and
it's about 1/2 - 3/4 miles on your right. Most of the older Fords are
on your left after you come thru the gate (1st road? on the left, all
the way to the end), but there are others scattered thoughout the yard.

Thanks for the directions. If anything the Cougar would be slightly
wider, I must be using different measuring points. As far as I know,
the smallest 9" you are going to find is in a Mustang, probably of the

expets want to add something?

| I didn't mean to imply that it was too wide, John....it's a little too
narrow (1 1/2 "). The measuring points are the outside flat of the
axle flange, where the wheels bolt on (taken with the brake drums off).
The next closest I've been able to find is out of a 63? F100, but there
was so much ice/snow, it was tough to tell how accurate my measurement
was. Plus I would either have to buy new wheels or have the axles re-
drilled for a passenger car lug pattern
Nobody ever said this was going to be easy........

re George. We used a 9" from a 63 F100 under a 63 Fairlane. Drilling
the flanges is simple. Wish I could remember the width flange to
flange. We didn't have to do any shortening either.
I have a 9" with discs that is from a 77 LTD. I know I will have to

Walt,
Nice to have you in the conference, but PLEASE TURN OFF THE CAP LOCKS.
About the Carb, yes, I did know that Ford used a Quadra-jet on the
429's. Strange but true. Anyway, you may want to give the Ford
dealership first crack at your carb question. Secondly, give the
reputable obsolete parts dealers a call (Green Motors, McDonald Ford
parts) which advertise in the Ford magazines. As a last resort try
Perogie or SEMO. They'll probably have the part but charge a fortune.
Tell me a little about the car. I've seen a 429 CJ Torino at a few
cruise nights around Nashua, it was light blue with hand controls.
This isn't the same car, is it? Regardless, a nice car that you should
hang on to, or call me for quick sale.......

Sorry about the caps lock, we leave it on for the job I do and I
often forget to turn it off. Anyway the color of my Torino is a sort
of a tanish gold color, Ford calls it light gold.
I do often attend cruise nights in Nashua and I am in a wheelchair
so it would have hand controls. It has laser stripes that go from
brown to gold and it does have a shaker hood scoop and hideaway
headlights.
I have seen your name around on some of the other strings I think
you were saying you have a Cougar with a 428 how do you like it?
The guy I bought my car off of had a 1970 Cougar Eliminator with
the 428 SCJ. It was a super nice car yellow and black anyway that is
for another conference thanks you for your help and I will try to
remember to keep the Caps Lock off.

Good luck finding one. I was looking for a replacement vacuum

places in Hemmings and the only one I found was a used one for 100
dollars. If I am going to spend that kind of money I decided to get
mine repaired. I couldn't find anyone on here that know where to get
the seals on something like that repaired so I think I might pull it
out and try it myself. Anyway if you find any aftermarket dealers that
deal with these parts please let me know becuase I have the rest of the
Hideaway setup I just need a motor. BTW I did try calling Ford and
they said the Motor for those is now obsolete and they no longer carry
them. Anyway just putting in my .02 but keep me informed with how your
search goes.

The '67 289 block I picked-up will need to be bored to clean it up.
TRW makes a flat top piston that will fit both 289 and 302. I don't
need new, just usable. I have 289 rods but piston/rod combo would be
even better.
Cast flat top would be considered.
Thanks, Wayne
