Cavs put the Phoenix in the clouds! Danny Ferry was the main man
along with Mr. Battle scoring big off the bench. Once again it was
the free throw line that was the difference. There were a couple of
technical fouls calls against Phoenix durring the game. The Cavs were
up by as much as 15 in the second half. So, the game wasn't as close
as the score might seem to implicate. Gerald Williams played an
excelent game getting some big time slams on some fast breaks. From
what I saw last night, I'm really surprised that Phoenix has as good
a record as they do. Didn't impress me at all.

reason he is fitting in so well is because he can drive like Price and

Well, the Cavs have started another streak...one in a row! Beating
the Orlando Magic 123-115 or something like that. Who wins at
center??? From what I saw, I have to give it to Brad Daughtery of the
Cavs. Brad got 15 points and something like 15 rebounds and sat out
quite abit of the game because of foul trouble. O'neal got 23 points
and 7 rebounds. This is the lowest rebounding he has had this year.
Now if he was held to below his average??? I don't know...what is his
average? At any rate, the game showcased Mark price who hit 8 of 10 in
the third period alone and didn't play the 4th period at all. Also in
the showcase....none other than....Danny Ferry getting 15 points from
the bench. Ehlo played another crap game.
What made the game for me....late in the fourth quarter the
Cleveland Cavs crowd started chantting Kerr, Kerr, We want Kerr. To no
avail...he never stepped foot on the floor but could help but smile.
I am sorry to see him with another team!
Mr. Lane started the game for the Cavs and actually hit a free

Then, figuring they get axed fer autographs all the time, I

Started shooting da breeze, and then some mental midgit comes

Nance, Daugherty, Wilkens all point to Price and
say "He's the hoop player - he's Charles Barkley" The guy

No, didn't get any autographs. I did give them some good natured
ribbing. I told them that "Hooters" wasn't the type of establishment
they should be frequenting - keeping up with the NBA's image and
all that. Price said he thought Hooters was a "Bird Museum".
They said they have folks asking them dumb questions all the
time - most frequent seem to be "Are you guys basketball players"
and "Are any of you players that I would know?" (Meaning, hey are
any of you guys stars!)
After a while, folks started coming from all over to get autographs,
so I wished them well, told them to beat some Bull's booty, and
said good bye.
Pretty decent.

Larry Nance get some well deserved rest since Hot Rod is getting

Good game last night with the Cavs going up by 10 then the Bucks
comming back about 3 times with the Cavs pulling ahead to stay at
the 5 minute mark. Mark Price was back to his usual self again.
The difference in this game was big Brad Daugherty hitting almost
every shot and getting lots of rebounds. With Hot Rod back in the
line up you can now see a big difference in Nance and Daugherty.
Hot Rod gives these guys more rest for the run at the end of the
game. Hot Rod will come in and play both center and forward.
Wilkins once again is showing he really wants to start. Driving in

Well, the Cavs have been doing quite the job lately. Since the
last note, they've taken 3 more wins. All the wins have beaten the
spread....not by 1 or 2 points, but by 5, 10 and 15 points. The
latest comming against the Hornets last night. The Cavs were to lose
the game by 1 but pulled it out by 4. With Hot Rod in the lineup
everyone gets a rest.
One of the greatest baskets I've seen in the last 3 games....came
3 games ago, late in the 4th quarter. The Cavs on a fast break...a
toss to Gerald (Slam Man) Wilkins. Wilkins takes the ball and does
a 360 dunk! SLAM! Put the game in the bag. Its over!
Another great shot was just two games ago with Mark Price feeding
a wide open Brad Daugherty. Brad looks like he is ready to tear the
backboard down but instead gives the ball a soft touch into the basket.

The Cavs are on the road again tonight to face Orlando and the

O'Neal how to play the game..... Hope this ones in the sky tonight.
Couldn't pickup the game last night and don't know the stats. Would
be nice to know if Mark Price has come out of his slump. One thing
for sure, even though he hasn't been hitting his shots from the field,
he still gets his assists.
So, it looks like 3 Cavs will make it to the all-star game. Mark
Price and Brad Daugherty are backups and Larry Nance as the reserve.
Would be nice to see all three in the game at the same time.
Just a note here....Mark Price broke a record in Richfield the
other night by making 100 straight free throws at home. Ironicly, he
missed #101......then started another streak.

Bad game last night by the Cavs. Bad news also...Larry Nance
left the game early in the first half with a strained left knee and
never returned. Gerald Wilkins also left the game at the same time
but returned late in the 2nd quarter. The Cavs couldn't hit the side
of a barn last night only shooting a wopping 40% from the field. Good
matchup last night between O'Neal and Brad Daugherty though. In my
opinion, I'd have to say it was an even match at the end of four. Brad
scored 21 points with 11 rebounds and 4 steals off O'Neal along with,
I think, 2 blocked shots. O'Neal scored 20 points with 14 rebounds.
Big factor in this game was the intimidation factor that O'Neal has...
The officials weren't calling anything...and I mean nothing at all.
My opinion of O'Neal is...he is a big oaf! At 300 lbs with no style.
The Cavs get the night off and travel back home for a game against
the Bucs in Richfield. Jim Chones said that the team looked very tired
and drained from the game that was won against Charlote the night
before. Cleveland showed no defense at all last night.

The Cavs go on another streak by beating up the Bulls Saturday
night. From what I hear it was the inside-out that beat them along
with Ehlo hitting on 6 of 7 three point attemps. The Cavs hit 10
3 pointers durring the game. Brad Daugherty was getting the double
team inside which left Ehlo open on the outside. Wish I could have
seen the game. Haven't seen the stats yet either.
Did read in the paper yesterday that Brad has only been outscored
in 4 games this year by other centers. Not bad.
Durring the Chicago game, Nance did not play along with Sanders
who is still on IR. Still haven't heard when Nance will come back.
This will make two games and I really don't expect the Cavs to play
him tonight.
In the last 8 games the Cavs have beaten the spread in 7 of those
games. The line tonight is 9 points. I'll take the Cavs again, even
with Nance out. Hot Rod has played well along with Ferry.

was still going up when it was hit by that Celtic player...should
have been given to Cleveland. Still, the Cavs shot like crap in the

Knicks beat the Cavs in Cleveland 115-95. Knicks had lost 12 straight
in Cleveland; have now won 8 in a row - longest streak since 1989. My
only concern is that they do not peak too soon. Knicks have broken
long losing streaks this season in Boston, Chicago, and Cleveland.
Cavs are now 3 games behind the Knicks in the East best record race.
Bulls are 1.5 games behind - 2 in the loss column.

ok, before I get into the Indians note this morning I do have a
few things to say about the knicks game the other day...
I wish I could have seen this game but I serched high and low
and couldn't find it. From the box score...
The Cavs got called for 6 (SIX) technicals durring the game.
Also, the Cavs had two players and coach thrown out of the game.
Why??? Sounds like some pretty piss poor officiating to me.
At any rate, the Cavs are not playing good ball lately...last
two weeks. Just hoping that the Cavs come out of there sluggish
streak soon!
Looks like the team they really want to play is the Bulls anyway.

fwiw 4 of the technicals were called on 2 players at the end of the game.
Dougherty and ?? were already on the bench in the 4th quarter and were ragging
on the officials. So the officials called 2 technicals on eahc and tossed
them from the game. So the 6 technicals is VERY misleading.

games were won early in the third quarter with the starters sitting

Great game last night if you are a Cavs fan...Star of the game....
the whole team.
Great team effort! Nine Cavs players in double figures.
1st quarter....teams traded baskets early then the Cavs starting
line-up took over by playing great defense. Converted every
turnover into points. Up by 7 at the end. Ehlo had 10 points
to lead the team.
2nd quarter....Defense continued to beat the Nets. Brandon,
Wilkins, Hot Rod and Ferry took over. Great effort by the backups.
Took the lead and brought it up to 21 points before it was over.
Highlights....Brad Daughtery takes everything off the glass. Nets
get one shot and their out. Wilkins drives to the basket then
dumps it off for many slams. Cavs hot at the 3pt line. Everyone
involved in the game.
3rd quarter....Starters put the game out of reach by pushing the
lead up to 26 points. Backups back out of the floor and the lead
dwindled back down to 21. Garbage time.......
4th quarter....All starters are pulled and backup-backups are in
the game. Lead dwindles down to 16. Garbage quarter. No fouls.
let'em play and get the game over.
Great Coaching by Mr. Wilkins!

Cavs go down in game #2. A wake up call. Expect the Cavs to win
the next two on the road.
1st quarter...Both teams traded baskets with the Cavs fouling the
Nets on every easy shot. Mark Price plays well and hits 3 of 4 with
6 assists. Cavs only up by 1 at the end of the quarter.
2nd quarter...Nothing spectacular except that the Nets are hitting
everything they throw up. Cavs up by 4 at the end of the half.
3rd quarter...Cavs looking stronger but the Nets stay only 4 back.
4th quarter...Cavs begin to extend the lead to as much as 13 points
then gets sloppy. Started shooting 3 pointers without being open.
They got away from the game plan. Lead dwindles to nothing. Like I
said earlier, the Nets hit everything...amazing actually.
Overall...The Cavs lost this game because of the outstanding
shooting of the Nets. I don't think the defense was that bad. Its
just that they were hitting everything!
Player rateings so far....
Mark Price: Could be playing better. Expect him to turn
it up another notch tonight. He has been hitting almost everything,
its just that he is getting into foul trouble because the team is not
giving the easy ones. He did however, miss a free throw in the last
game.
Brad Daugherty: Has been playing good. Hasn't been that
dominating though. Shots not falling. He has been playing great off
the board, taking everything in site.
Larry Nance: Looks alittle rusty. Has hit all free
throws. Off and on from the floor. Lacked intensity in game #2.
Sanders: Not noticed.
Ehlo: Big difference from game 1 to game 2. Looked much
better in game 1.
Hot Rod: Has been playing great ball off the bench.
Danny Ferry: Has dominated when he comes in. Big future
in Cleveland.
Brandon: Has been putting some great minutes off the bench
in place of Mark Price. I know he hurt himself in game 1, which was
his best game.

Great game last night!!!
Had to watch it in inverted video though....no crowd noise...no
announcers....still a great game.
Things got very physical in this game with two fights nearly
breaking out. One technical called in the 4th against the Nets
in the fourth. No ejections though...the officals just took the
players involved off to the side and told them to calm down.
1st quarter: Cavs came out cold...Hmmmmm, I think I said something
about this yesterday. They went something like 4 for 19 from the
floor. Also durring this time, they committed 6 turnovers. Cavs down
by 9 at the end.
2nd quarter: Cavs made a huge comeback and tied the score but the
Nets came back with the final 5 points of the quarter. Down by 5 at
the end.
3rd quarter: All-stars Nance and Daugherty take over. Both were
awsome off the boards. It was actually the whole group of starters
that did the Nets in. Great defense! Nets got the jitters and began
turning the ball over with stupid mistakes. The Cavs were unstopable
at one point relentlessly going after offensive rebounds. Nets got
into foul trouble early in the quarter which spelt the end.
4th quarter: Cavs extend the lead to 13 before the Nets give it
their last shot.....final score.....Cavs win by 7.
Mark Price was cold from the floor....again. Not a good series for
him. He went something like 2 for 12 yesterday. Mark never plays well
with lots of rest.
Give the Nets some credit though...Coleman is a hell of a player.
Petrovic has lots of energy but was lucky he didn't get thrown out of
the game last night.
Looks like the extra two days off helped Larry Nance though. Can't
even tell he's playing with a broken finger.

Yes, the Cavs got the job done when they needed to. On to da
bullshitters.........
Hope da bullshitters got too much rest! The Cavs have done a
good job this year against Jordan...only allowed him an average of
27 points a game compared to over 30, probably closer to 40 last
year.
So, what is this.....a five game series?
Brandon was the big man in the first half comming off the bench
in place of Price who picked up two early fouls. Seeing how well
Brandon played, Price didn't get back in the game untill the 3rd
quarter. When Price did come in.....he did a job on the Nets.
Finally! Looks like he got his touch back.
Man of the game though was Big Brad Daugherty! Took everything
off the glass.
I do have to say though...the officiating sucked throughout the
entire series. One minute they call nothing...the next...they call
everything. The call on Brad for a technical was bullcrap in my
mind. Sure, he hung there on the dunk, but, no more than Coleman
a few minutes later in the game.
You wanted an injury update...
Mark Price.....torn ligament in his thumb.
Larry Nance....broken finger.
Brad Daugherty.tendenits in his knee.
I really think this could be the year for the Cavs. The series will
more than likely go 5 games but I wouldn't be surprised if it only went
4. Jordan won't be able to carry the whole team this year and with the
pickups the Cavs made especially for this series will do him in.
So, to guard Jordan, the Cavs put either Sanders, Ehlo or Wilkins
on him. Would really like to see Wilkins play him more than anyone
else but Sanders can play great defense.
Should be some great games!
Figure the Cavs to win at least one in Chicago...

First of all:
> You wanted an injury update...

> Mark Price.....torn ligament in his thumb.
> Larry Nance....broken finger.
> Brad Daugherty.tendenits in his knee.
And if that's not enough, Jordan has drawn a bead on Gerald Wilkins.
Evidently there's no great love loss between the 2. The Cavs are making a
big deal of winning the regular season series and holding Jordan under
his averages. So Jordan has vowed to step his game up to dominate Wilkins
and the Cavs.
The one should be over in 5, giving the Cavs one home win. There's no way
the Cavs can win this without Mark Price being at 100%. The word out is
that Mark needs surgery.

| -3, its about time !!!! Thats a good one.
Well if you look at the 2 teams, position by position you have to
give cleveland the edge. If you compare the 2 teams benches you
have to give cleveland the edge, but Cleveland dont have a MJ on there
teams, and bottom line if you shut down MJ Cleveland should take the
series, if MJ/Pippen get injured you cleveland should take the series.
I seem to recall a game 5 where Cleveland should have taken the series
and a one man team took game 5 and the series away from them.
This will be the best series of the eastern playoffs. These are the 2
best teams, based on talant in the Division. Yes NY is having a great
year but if anybody out there pro/con NY doesnt realize that they use
thuggury for many of there wins they need to turn on the TV before
watching the games.
Im looking forward to this series, and may the Best team win, good luck

Still a good game last night.....the Cavs had their chance but blew it.
Tight game through 3 quarters but it was the 4th quarter that the game
was won in. In the pivatal 4th, it was the Jordan play.....after play
.....after play.....after play. The Cavs looked like their intensity
level dropped off except for Wilkins and Daugherty. Big play of the
game was....score....Cavs down by 5 with about 3 minutes left....Cavs
have the ball, Larry Nance takes a jumper...in and out....instead of
being down by only 3, the bulls get the ball and a basket....Cavs down
by 7. That was the game breaker. Later though...with about 1:20 left,
Cavs down by 5 again but Jordan gets fouled by Ehlo....terible call in
my opinion. Jordan makes both free throws and its down by 7 again.
Lets not even mention the 4 missed free throws by the Cavs in the final
minutes of the game...... Cavs choked in the end.
Well, the game plan for the Cavs seems to be the same as the
regular season.....single cover Jordan and make him win the game.
Only one other player for the bulls scored double figures...I thing it
was anderson scoreing 10. Great team effort....Aeeeee? One thing for
sure.....even with the great coverage Wilkins put on Jordan, Jordan
still made many great shots. There were only a few times that Jordan
got the basket uncontested. I still would give Ehlo and Wilkins a "B"
on the coverage but have to give Jordan an "A" for his great effort.
I wonder just how great Jordan would be if the bulls didn't play
the Cavs in the playoffs. 43 dam points. what a drag.
3 point update....Cavs hit on 5 of 8 in the first half but couldn't
sink one when it counted in the 2nd half. The Cavs seem to really need
these to take Chicago at home.
Injuries...Grant went down in the first quarter after twisting his
ankle....any update on this???

Hal has a wonderful opportunity to be creative. How many missed loose
balls, bad calls by the ref, and shots that just missed does it take
for the Cavs to have almost won game 2? First playoff game I have seen
this year that was truly a massacre. After the middle of the second
quarter Cavs were not even in the same universe as the Bulls. 30 point
leads? Final difference was 19 points.
Of course teams that get blown out can come back. Celtics in 1984(?)
got blown out by LA in one game and came back to win the series. In
1985 the Celtics beat the Lakers by 30 or was it 40 in game 1 of the
Finals, LA won in 6. Knicks got blown out in game 2 of the 1990 series
against the Celtics and came back to win. So all is not over but
Cleveland has to start scoring 100+ points or they are in real trouble.
Will be interesting to see of Jordan's aggravating his sore wrist will
be a factor.
Next 2 games are Saturday and Monday in Cleveland.

Certainly wasn't pretty last night and I must say the Cavs don't
look like a playoff team AT ALL!
Made me sick to watch them and even sicker to have to come in to
work today. All the crap I have to take. I swear...one of these
days...I'm going to switch teams. Talk about choke.....what a job.
Have to give the Bulls credit though...great defense combined with
poor shooting, makes the Cavs step back and look at themselves.
I've watched this team all year...didn't miss very many games at
all. I can say that this team has surely played better...much better,
than they have in this series....well, not only in this series but last
series too. I've seen this team play with so much confidence that you
knew they couldn't have been beaten. Now, they look like they haven't
played together at all.
Very frustrating! And yes Crazy, I do think the officiating sucked
last night. Just to name a few calls....the ones that hurt....were the
ones that didn't get called against Brad Daugherty just after the Cavs
began pulling back from being down a halftime. The Cavs get 5 straight
points and get the ball to Brad in the paint. He starts going up for
the shot and gets slapped all over and the ball comes loose....no call,
the ball goes the other way....this must have happened at least twice
on Brad alone. You could tell it bothered Brad and the whole team.
One foul after another was just not called. It has to be draining to
have this happen time and time again.
And then there were all those missed shots...I mean uncontested
shots that just didn't go in. Lets talk about turnovers.....no lets
not. The Cavs were totally out of sink. Why??? Has coach Wilkins
lost it??? I think this is the big question. The Cavs certainly have
the talent. When you have backups that can start anywhere in the
league and you get blown out.....something just has to be done. I
think the Cavs have been shocked here and if they don't start taking
control of the games in Cleveland, the Cavs will be playing golf as
early as next Tuesday.
A big question after game one was posed to Coach Wilkins.....Why
didn't you play Price in the final 7 minutes??? Good question! Why?
You have a player the caliber of Price sitting on the bench...down by
5, and you don't play him????? WHAT THE HELL! Its really sickening!
Another thing that is sickening....can't anybody get the ball to
Brad??? How many passes were taken right out of the air while tossing
the ball to Brad??? 4, 5...maybe more. I just can't stand it. The
Cavs look like they haven't played for 3 months. And that is true.
They haven't looked good since before the half season break. They
couldn't be stopped then.
At any rate, if the Cavs can get things back together while they
play at home...build their confidence by winning the next two, I think
they may still have a chance. BUT, if they lose just one of the next
two.....its over, and I'd bet they'd just lie down in Chicago next
Wednesday.

them:
1) Allow Lenny Wilkins to take the Hawks job. He's too classy a guy
to fire, but don't stand in his way if the Hawks offer him their
head coaching job.
2) Trade Mark Price to New York for Anthony Mason and Hubert Davis.
Trade would help both teams - gives Cavs some much-needed nads
and an outside shooter; gives Knicks the point guard they need.
3) Do not attempt to sign Craig Ehlo. He's unrestricted; let him go.
4) Sign Joe Kleine as an unrestricted free agent. He'll give Daugherty
a decent backup, allow Hot Rod to be strictly a PF where he's more
effective, and be a good influence on the team.
5) Draft a backup PG to replace Price, like Nick Van Exel from
Cincinnati.
Their roster would then look like this:
C - Daugherty, Kleine, Guidinger
PF - Mason, Williams
SF - Nance, Sanders, Ferry
SG - Davis, Wilkins
PG - Brandon, Van Exel
Net result - Cavs get tougher and shoot better from the off guard spot.
hey also run more with Brandon at the point.

I just had to wait till the game last night was over....thats all.
Why write two notes when one is enough...
On Saturdays game....I missed the entire second half....hand
goodness! I seen them play a very good first half though.
Watched all of yesterdays game and can only say....what can you do.
Jordan seems as though he can do it all. And I have to say that
Wilkins played him as well as anyone has. I mean, come on, Wilkins was
all over him....with 11 seconds left, he knocked the ball away from
him...and the time down the court before, he was in his face causing
him to miss again. I really think Wilkins did one hell of a job and
showed some leadership the team has lacked. Its just too bad that the
Cavs couldn't handle the pressure. Look at it, the Cavs must have
turned the ball over at least 5 times in the last 5 minutes...if not
more. What shitty passing! Then the is Brad.....the Cavs got him the
ball, what, 4 times in the last two minutes, and he didn't even make
one basket. He still has some growing up to do....he needs to get
mean! He is too weak and just didn't show the intensity needed in the
end.
Larry Nance....is the true All Star.....I can only give him credit
for doing what an All Star does. Hell of a series played by this man.
Ehlo, LET HIM GO! I've said this time and time again. He can't
shoot or pass under pressure.
Mark Price...Don't want to see him leave Cleveland. He played
another good game last night untill his ankle injury. He does do the
things needed to win. Its just that when the ball is in someone elses
hands.....that the Cavs can't seem to generate any offense.
Ferry, needed this playoff exposure. It still seemed like he could
have picked up the intensity and watch how he passes the ball. Many
big turnovers by him in the last two days.
Hot Rod, great when he drives! Can't give this man up...he gives
Nance the rest he needs without really loosing anything.
Brandon, he does a good job on most occasions and wouldn't want to
loose this guy.
At any rate, I'm honestly glad to see the Cavs loose at home. It
has to be better than loosing in Chicago by a bigger margine. The Cavs
just have to be more intense and be confident.
If you want me....I'll be in the INDIANS notes file...

Gerald Wilkins is taking a lot of heat about his "lack" of defense on

The forced foul by Daugherty on a break away by Jordan really showed his

Wilkins has nothing to be ashamed of because he played his
heart out last night. So did Ehlo. Brad Daugherty would have
but I don't think he has one. If aggression manifested itself
in good looks, Brad would be even uglier than he already is.
In fact, he and Zane Smith would be neck and ugly neck for
captain of the All-Sports All-Ugly team. But last night's loss
wasn't entirely Daugherty's fault. Lenny Wilkens deserves to
shoulder a large chunk of the blame. I thought among other things
that it was a bad move sitting Mark Price down for as long as he
did. And Lenny doesn't look like he could light a fire under

some serious changes in the Mistake on the Lake with Lenny

Yup Mets were underachievers but at least they did win a WS and one other
division in 3 years. Cavs have never even gotten to the NBA finals and
only got to the Eastern finals once; they have not one a division in a long
time, if ever.
Keith Oberman on ESPN couldn't believe that the Cavs did not double team Jordan,

Why hold Jordan responsible for the hype? In its place will only be
the hype of another player, such as the currently fashionable Shaq
hype, the fading Sir Charles-hype, or the appearing-soon-in-theaters-
near-you Chris Webber-hype (he'll have to get a nickname, fast).
NBA-style hype won't disappear with the retirement, injury or death of
Michael Jordan. If the NBA has actually gotten to the point where the
greatness of its individual players is no longer tolerable, it would
appear that the only option is to give up the NBA...

Hate to say it, but I agree with Mike. As the season continues, the
Cavs look to be no closer to "gelling" than they were early in the
year. Ferry, who had shown hints of talent the past couple of years,
has deservedly fallen off the face of the planet after showing poor
fundamental play. Brandon hasn't improved, and there's evidence of
some dissension among the ranks. The Cavs should be near the top;
I'm convinced that with Lenny they would be. I can understand the
desire to get someone new; it just makes sense to at least get someone
as good as Lenny, though.

Great game, yes. Best game, no. I hate to admit it, but Scottie
Pippen is proving to be a better player than I thought. I honestly
expected his shooting percentage to collapse w/o Jordan around, and
for him to have troubles leading the Bulls. He hasn't, and he really

three All-stars (Nance, Price, Daugherty) did not play. The makeshift
lineup still played a good game. Considering they only lost by 13....
The Cavs are having their problems. Lots of people say the only
reason they went on the 11 game win streak was because of their
compitition. This is for the most part true. But, inbetween all those
bad teams were some good ones too. I certainly would like to see
anyones win streak only include teams with above 500 records. So, an
11 game win streak is impressive no mater who you play.
Word is that Daugherty may be out for the season. Not good news.
Not sure if the Cavs are happy with their standings right now or
not. They may be content. I would rather the Cavs stay out of NY way
until the Championship. The Cavs would play well against Chicago and
Atlanta and I would expect wins. The NY - Cleveland matchup would be
a battle to win.

It wasn't you Hal, it was Groaner. Phoenix beat a healthy Cavs team by
16 here in December. Last year, the Cadavers swept the series since
Barkley missed one game, and KJ the other, but I took it like a main.

re: bad teams, good teams
One of the columnist in the NY Times was writing about Starks being
out for 6 weeks and returning just when the playoffs began. He suggested
that the NBA was a league with a bunch of good teams and then a bunch of
pretty bad teams. With the exception of Eweing, the Knicks could therefore
lose any player for a number of weeks and still win 55-58 games. The playoffs
of course is another story.

the national semifinal on a last-second shot by Marquette's Jerome
Whitehead.
Kinch averaged 15.3 points a game during his freshman season and

Just in case things were looking up for the Cavs, with Daugherty
officially able to play, even if he can't, Hot Rod goes and injures
his hand. The Cavs have as many centers as the Bulls, you see;
it's just that Daugherty, Hot Rod, and Guidinger can't play.
With Tim Kempton our likely starting center, things are _not_
looking good.

Well, the Cavs season is over, and the breakup looks ready to begin.
Without Daugherty, Nance, and Williams, the Cavs were clearly
outmatched against the Bulls. The series still should have gone to
a fourth game, on the foul on Wilkins; it most likely wouldn't have
mattered in the end. I still think that the Cavs could have gotten
past the Bulls on emotion had just Hot Rod been healthy; but he wasn't,
and they didn't really come close.
Speculation now is that the current group of Cavs, many of whom go
back with the team to the mid-eighties, will be disbanded. Daugherty's
health will make him nearly impossible to deal, but Price and Hot Rod
have some not insignificant value. The remaining group - Hill,
Brandon, Phills, and Mills principally - should be interesting to
watch, but even with a Daugherty comeback they'll need some immediate
help from any Price and Hot Rod deals if they expect to go anywhere
soon.

The season's on, and the Cavs are playing well.
Not great, certainly. But well - 8-5 record, and some clear positives.
This is no longer the team of the late 80s - early 90s, though. That
team won by shooting well, shooting threes well, shooting free
throws well, not turning the ball over, and blocking shots.
This team is winning by holding their opponents to 90 pts/games. They
still shoot threes well, and hold onto the ball, but otherwise the
team is vastly different. They're outrebounding their opponents
significantly, which combined with few fouls or turnovers and an OK
defensive FG% has been enough to win.
This team is still a threat - if everyone who's currently healthy
remains healthy, they could sneak past someone in the playoffs. The
key, though, is still the return of Daugherty. If it happens, and
he plays up to his ability, the team should be able to challenge for
the Eastern conference (though clearly Orlando and New York would
still be the teams to beat). If it doesn't, it's hard to picture
the team getting past the second round.

No again - Hodges matches Price in terms of three point contests won;
_perhaps_ you could argue that he's a better 3-pt shooter (I'd

Actually, I'd bet he just missed that. Easy enough to do, when even
as a starter Person's 7th on the team in minutes/game...
Still, I don't you can argue that Phoenix had the worse of the
injury situation for last night's game. Heck, the Cavs had a
decent (if a bit short) team out of comission last night, in
Daugherty, Mills, Wilkins, Price, and Brandon.
Still, the Cavs are going to have to learn to win games with the
guys they've got, and last night would have been as good a time
as any to start. B^(

I think you have to give the Cavs a lot of credit for their
record this year. How many guys does Cleveland have on the IR
list now? They must be close to max allowed by the NBA. And yet
they are still hanging in with a winning record this late in the
year!
Compare them to Golden State (lottery) with all their injuries.
Or to the Suns, who are tanking after losing just Manning.
Cleveland has had a successful season, considering the hand they've
been dealt...

Right now my choices for coach of the year are Del Harris of the Lakers
followed closely by Fritello.
Harris has his team in the middle of things in the big bad West and
Fritello gets the nod for the magic he's worked to keep Cleveland above
.500.

missing like 12 starters :-) and then looking at the bulls recent
games and the return of jordan its not a huge assumption to assume
the bulls will win the next 2 vs cleveland. Atlanta has Indiana and
Milwaukee for its next 2 opponents so the should close the gap to 2

Orlando is having some problems of their own. Penny is still out and more
recently, Nick Anderson suffered a concussion in the Detroit game.
At full strength, Orlando should beat both Charlotte and Chicago. That
doesn't mean they will. The Magic still have the burden of being swept
lasted year by the Pacers and have shown problems with concentration
before.
Right now, in terms of the Hornets, I'd rather see the Magic than
Michael. His return looks like a setup to boost TV ratings so I wouldn't

The Indians are one of the best teams in the AL this year, clearly.
About the only team that _might_ finish better is the Yankees.
Even so...

Not necessarily ... this could be a salary dump, and a player dump
that would "force" one of the expansion teams to take another
player (can you say John Salley?) ... remember last year when
Orlando sent Scott Skiles and a FIRST round draft pick to
Washington for a SECOND round pick? Just so they could open up
a salary slot to sign Ho Grant ...
BTW ... Miami also announced the signing of shooting guard
Predrag Danlivoc (sp), they picked up his rights (along with Billy
Owens) in the trade that sent Rony Seikaly to Golden State

fool (despite what he looks like) I'd have to hold the jury out for
awhile on Majerle.
That other guard Pfeil(???) seems to have really come around. McHale
said the other day that winning in the nba for the majority of teams
(with the lesser talent) is all about executing and avoiding mistakes.

Today's Standings Cleveland -17
Phoenix -12
Cleveland does have a better record but won't get thru rnd 1 this
season. Phoenix is currently the 8th seeded team in the west and
would match up with Seattle. Based on seattle's performance over
that past few years this would be a Great Series (Anyone's game)

The Phoenix pick is at Cleveland's option for this year or next.
Cleveland will have to consider two things to determine which
year to take the pick:
Favoring taking this years pick is the depth of the draft. Lots
of quality underclassmen are in the draft.
On the other side of the coin, where is Phoenix... will KJ and
Barkley return. If they start a rebuilding process, next years
pick could be much more valuable. Phoenix is done. Its just a
matter of time before they start rebuilding.
My guess is that Cleveland will take this year's pick.
The Washington pick will be around 10 and the other two in
the upper teens. They have loads of room under the salary
cap. They should be able to sign a major player via free
agency *AND* probably will make a deal with those three 1st
rounders to move up and get one great pick or two better
picks. Would I trade all three picks for one pick in the top
3 - yes. Can they do it, unknown.

Good thing I don't listen to experts because I had the Cavs picked to make the
playoffs. My guess is that if they sign a major free agent then they take the
Suns' pick this year to save cash. I'm in agreement with Paul that the Suns
are going to sink even farther next year, so the pick next year will be more
costly. If they don't sign anyone then I think they hold off for the better pick
next year.

Maybe, if you're more than a player away, but what's the impact of a 12/16/22
pick vs. a 1/2 pick?
1st or 2nd player is often a franchise player. Once you get down, especially
at 16 or 22, don't they fall more in the category of "solid pro"?

The amount of players coming out this year will *hurt* next years

to not make the playoffs next year. I also think Phoenix will
make their moves based partly on what the Cavs do. If Cleveland

the possiblity of not making the playoffs and getting alottery
