1483.0. "WHERE IS MALL SHOW INFO? " by SENIOR::BIBEAULT () Wed Jan 06 1993 12:46

    A club I belong to is thinking about having a Mall Show. I thought
    that topic was discussed here before but cannot seem to locate the
    info. Does anyone recall Mall Show discussions that may be of
    assistance to us in promoting this sport? The AMA is being contacted
    also as we are aware they have materials available too. Any tips would
    be appreciated. Thanks, Marc `-----/*\-----'

1483.1Here's what We doLEDS::WATTWed Jan 06 1993 16:2213
    CMRCM has a mall show every spring or late winter. We get the AMA
    booth which comes with handouts and has some nice pictures. We also
    get some Videos of flying, some from AMA, some from our club library.
    We got one of the stores in the mall to lend us a large TV to show the
    videos. We have a raffle with a beginner's kit for a prize. We also
    have a static contest for Scale, Glider, Sport Plane and Trainer. This
    induces members to bring their best planes for the display. Last year
    a mystery judge decided who the winners were and nice prizes were
    awarded. You need tables and something to cover them, and possibly
    ropes and stands to keep people away from some of the planes.

    Thanks Charlie. Your comments are much appreciated. The raffle sounds
    like a good idea too. Sounds like a way to help the club just a bit too.

    Marc,
    	Mall shows take some work to plan, but they are a great way to
    promote the hobby to the general public. I have enjoyed the shows our
    club has done. The best time of year to do it is in the spring before
    the weather gets nice enough for flying. We had ours too late one year
    and many club members went flying instead of attending the show.

And try to leave the Duraplane movie at home. It does draw a crowd but
it give totally the wrong impression (good for a closed club meeting)
