1479.1 | My '93 projects | MISFIT::BLUM | | Wed Dec 23 1992 14:51 | 21 |
| My '93 project aspirations:
1-Finish Waco 550 with conversion to T-tail.
2-Either scratch build(all composite) 27 cell F3E ship or find a
suitable kit/arf.
3-Build something for my Astro 05-FAI, probably a Cad-Cat Pylon
racer.
4-Experiment with wing skinning techniques over blue and bead foam.
*With any luck this spring I should have 4 flying electrics, which
should allow me to fly continuously.
Would still like to build an electric twin Pucara, but I know this
won't happen.
Merry X-mas to all,
Jim

1479.2 | A mixed bag of projects | STOHUB::JETRGR::EATON | Dan Eaton St.Louis,MO,USA, 445-6522 | Tue Dec 29 1992 12:51 | 33 |
| My project list looks like this.
1. Finish the Dynaflight Mustang 40 my mom got me for Christmas last year. I
started working on it during my summer vacation. Currently I just need to
finish sanding the wing, cover the wing, and put the radio in.
2. Finish the Great Planes Decathalon 40 my mom got me for Christmas last year.
I started last January and I'm to the point where I need to sand and cover the
thing.
I think my mom's pissed about the state of those first two projects. This year
she gave me some Old Spice and a bottle of shampoo that's suppose to make your
hair grow. 8^(
3. Finish making the plug for a 1/8 scale Huey. Once that's done I can make a
mold and try some other things I've never done before.
4. Finish repainting my 1/6 scale Jet Ranger.
5. Finish building the scratchbuilt A-26 Invader I started a couple of years
ago. The wing was one of my first efforts in foam cutting and I didn't like
how it turned out. Time to try again.
6. Finish the P-38 I started last Febuary. It's an enlarged version of the one
published in RCM. The one in RCM called for 15's and I'm using 25's so I blew
the plans up a bit. The booms are almost done. I decided to try foam wings but
found that with the wing taper it's very difficult to cut a good pair of wings
by hand. I've built an automatic foam cutter so we'll see what happens.
7. Learn to fly my Spirit glider.
8. If I get all of that done I have plans for a B-25 I'd like to take a
crack at.

1479.3 | Wanted - More spare time | 3D::REITH | Jim 3D::Reith MLO1-2/c37 223-2021 | Tue Dec 29 1992 13:21 | 38 |
| Well, my list of kits in the queue gets longer each time I list them.
Besides some repairs that need to get done:
Alcyone 2M - just started this. I plan to do a second fuselage and a std
class wing as well. This is needed before the contest season starts
since I blew up my 2M late last season.
Alcyone open - I have a second one almost ready to cover. I've dropped the
weight some and I'm hoping to do fully concealed controls in the
wings. I'm also modifying the tail for a pull-pull elevator similar
to the 2M.
Chuperosa (aileron) - backup for the 2M and a slope ship that I'll hopefully
get to use. I'm also hoping to use this for HLG at some of the
contests.
UltraSport 60 - A Christmas gift. I'll be getting retracts (Indy) and
putting my ST.75 into it 8^)
P-38 - Last years winter project that got displaced by the need to get the
Alcyone built and trimmed for the Nats. I'm going to get the cowls
at the WRAMS show in February and then I'll HAVE to build it.
Spirit/Gentle Lady wing upgrade - I'm hoping to offer a wing upgrade for
these popular trainers to extend their usable life. Something to
add flaps and/or ailerons to them. This will take some R&D flying
and a couple of builds. I've gotten good response from the people
I've mentioned it to. Now I've got to get it out the door.
Spitfire - I have an older Dave Platt Spitfire that is heavy (due to my
building techniques 15 years ago). I'm planning on stripping the
sheeting/glass off the wing and redoing it with the better (read
lighter) techniques I now know. It's at 12 pounds now and I think
I can easily get it below 10.
I've got several unfinished projects in the shop that I've lost interest
in which I need to finish and sell/auction. I can't justify enough time to
finish them and I can't see selling them as partial builts.

1479.4 | My winter building projects | MICROW::PHILLIPS | DECtp Engineering TAY1-2 DTN 227-4314 | Tue Dec 29 1992 18:51 | 33 |
| Well I'm too lazy to go find my note on my building plans, so I'll just redo
them. :-) Here goes:
Electric Breeze - I'm currently working on this plane. It's an electric version
of Douglas Aircraft QuickSilver slope soarer. I've got the tail featers ready
tp cover and the fuse is almost ready. I still have to bag the wings, but I
need to get my vacuum bagging setup working again.
Alcyone M2- Same kit Jim R talked about.
Flacon 880- S3021/S3014 wing 114" wing span open class glider. SHould arrive
in a couple of weeks.
UltraSport 60- A Christmas gift from the wife and kids. Just like my buddy
Jim R :-), I'll also be building it with retracts.
House of Balsa ME109- Well lets see, I could resist this when I saw the ad.
I've had an FP .10 sitting around for almost two years collecting dust. When
I saw the little ME109, I knew I had found a home for it!
1/4 scale Aeronca L3B- I've had the plans for this for about two years. I used
to work with a guy who is restoring one of these(1:1 scale!) He showed me the
plans for the 1/4 scale version and we thought it would be neat for me to build
a scale version of his plane. His building progress is stalled and so is mine!
IF I have time, I hope to start it this year.
There are several other things I plan to do over the winter. I want to try
making my own fiberglass fuse. I also want to try fiberglassing some blue
foam wings. That should keep me busy for a while! :-) I'm on vaction this
week and have been able to get into the shop every day! It's been great and
is a much needed rest. Back to the shop!!!

1479.5 | Long Winter = Lots of Building Time | DV780::BEATTY | | Mon Jan 04 1993 09:58 | 26 |
| I have revitalized a couple of old birds and built or started on a
couple of new ones. I moved to Iowa last February and I'm convinced
the long winters are good for RC'ers. Now if it ever gets warm enough
to fly!
Revitalized a Sturdy Birdy (Duraplane Clone). I've cut a new (vinyl
downspout) body and put tri gear on it. I also have skis for it and it
will fly before the snow clears! Elevator, rudder and throttle only.
Revitalized a combination ACE Four 20 wing with a bargain basement
Japenese low winger fuse. I used the new monokote Royal Blue and
trimmed with Flourescent green! Looks nice. I installed flaps too.
Built (assembled) an EZ Super Chipmonk with an O.S. .28. My first with
retracts. I tried the Davis Diesel Iso Mounts. Have not fired it up
yet.
Started building a Bud Nosen 1/4 Scale Citabria this weekend. I was
going to put a dieselized Fox .74 in it but after talking with several
experienced 1/4 scaler's I heard "you'll get realistic performance with
that combo" one too many times. So Santa shipped me a Zenoah 38 for
Xmas.
This should keep me busy until the sun comes out again.

1479.6 | my list. " But building is fun " | ITHIL::CHAD | Hi | Fri Jan 22 1993 10:20 | 53 |
| Well (Hartmut is not allowed to read this :-)
The active things are:
Finish rebuilding my crashed Eagle II. This is almost done -- just cover and
install everything. I hope to finish this by tomorrow afternoon so I can go
fly it again.
Finish my Ridge Runt. The fuse (sans hatch and nose block) is done and 95%
sanded. One wing half is done.
Finish my Chup Cl Mark I/214 scratch chup-look-alike. Fuse is mostly done,
need to save to buy the wing sheeting. After this I'd like to do a Mark II/7037
in a lighter (and probably more fragile) version.
Predators. My wood for this finally arrived. I hope to start this this
weekend. (slowly -- I find that not hurrying gets much better results)
I have a Gremlin kit I'd like to build.
I just got this kit for my .10 -- a Scande Research Demon flying wing.
Foam and balsa. No fuse so different than Gremlin. Has separate elevator
and ailerons.
Minor repairs to my Spirit (new nose balsa and another 25 minutes of touch ups)
Other things laying around:
Spirit 100
Bob Martin Talon
Dynaflight Skeeter
Bob Martin Bobcat
Great Planes Trainer .60
This Fokker III power kit fir 40-45. It is an ARF in the
STIK category but high midwing and a round plastic 3-liter bottle
bottom cowl to make it look like a Fokker. This is a STIK thing, and
not even a fun/semi scale thing. Need a spot for my YS 45 I got in Utah
last Spring and the pipe I got off of Dan Snow. This I'd like to get
done for the Spring thing at Hartmuts too. Yes Hartmut, glow-glop and
noise :-)
A Sureflight all foam P39 thing I've had for 1.5 years and 20% done.
The Talon is also high up on the list. Need to get it done before the Spring
get together with Hartmut (and Bernd if he wants)
(The Bobcat may find itself in a for sale and the Trainer 60 already is, though
I may actually start it one day)
I need to get good flying days so I cn start to fly these things and learn
new things on flying!
Also, some friends are rebuilding my Freedom 20 I crashed last winter. They
wanted to build something so they took over that project (in my house).
