1411.0. "B-25J rc model & plexiglas for models" by JGODCL::CLEEUW () Fri Feb 14 1992 07:32

As we have a real B-25J in our foundation, I'm looking for a RC model of
    this plane.
I know there is such a model but could not find any info of it (I have
seen part of a drawing from a complete kit but no one could tell me
    where it came from.)
It has a wing span of a few feet.

Does someone know of some books describing the use of plexiglas (PMMA)
for building models (advantage over wood is that it does not develop
any cracks in the material after some time , like wood does).

All info on this is welcome.
Thanks - Cees van der Leeuw

You may be thinking of the Royal B25 Mitchel kit they sell. It has a
70" wingspan and is designed for two 40-60 sized engines. Also, Nick
Niroli has plans for a larger B25 that takes two Quadra 40CC gas
engines. There is a business in New Jersey that is kitting this plan.

The Royal mentioned in -.1 is indeed a very nice kit but has a high
price tag on it. I currently have a photograph of this kit in it's
assembled form, taken at the 1991 Toledo show. If you want BIG, the
Nick Ziroli Plans are for you. Yes, I said plans. This is a scratch
builders project. You may add as much or as little detail as desired.
the plans are in 1/8th scale, with a wing span of, I believe,
approximately 105 inches. Ziroli is well known for his scale plans and
this model in particular was written up in a more recent issue of
    RC Scale Magizine.
Ziroli originally designed his first B25 in 1970. This was a .25
sized kit weighing in at around six pounds with a wing span of @ sixty
inches. I ordered a set of the plans myself and "kitted" the model for
a future building project. I planned on using it as my first multi-
engine plane, and this one fit's the bill. I even went so far as having
a friend look up the original article in his massive collection of
magazines, and lo and behold, he still had the orginal article from 1970.
I got a photcopy of it and know have both the article and a set of plans
and a completed "kit" for this .25 sized model.
My sole intent was to build a multi engine model of military
design. The .25 and the Royal kit were the only two available and the
price of the Royal kit turned me off. Wouldn't you know it. Two weeks
after all my research was completed, the "big" 1/8th scale kit appeared
in RC SCALE Magazine, and, in the scale I was looking for! I'll wind up
using the .25 as practice for detailing and will someday build the
    larger version.
As far as canopies go, I had a friend show me how to build them
from SIG plastic sheets. This will be required for the .25 sized plane.
A company used to market the plastic windows, gun turrets and cowls for
the .25 version but have since gone out of business . Your in luck
though. Nick Ziroli sells all the canopies and cowls necessary for
the 1/8 scale model. Good luck on your decision and keep us informed on
    your progress!

I was curious about the .25 sized version myself so I called Ziroli to see if
the plans were still available. I talked to a nice young lady who didn't now
about a smaller version of the B-25 and suggested I call back later this week
to talk to Ziroli himself. She also offered to send me a FREE catalog so its
worth giving them a call yourself
1411.7RE: Plans and prices...CSOA1::CTULANKOTue Feb 18 1992 12:0713
I got the plans from Cartsen . I believe the catalog was from a Model
Airplane News Magazine. I'm not really sure, I wound up with about four
or five catalogs last year via all the "free-bees" they were giving
away at the Toledo show. The plans were still available for the .25
sized plane. I think they cost me @ $11.50 + shipping. I'll get the
address and ordering info for you tommorow. As far as the article, I
can make a copy for anyone interested in the .25 sized plane and mail
it to them. My mail account is VERSA::TULANKO or call via DTN 432-7748.
Also the going price for the set of "BIG" Ziroli 1/8th scale plans is
    $38.00 + postage.
