                I am building what can only be called a Supersonic
        Aeromaster and if there's a contest I'll enter it. I believe
        it's on and being organized by Dan Snow. The Supersonic
        Aeromaster is a Lou Andrews kit - rubber bands everywhere, and no
        silly cowl - with an O.S. .91 FSR powering it (rejoice Rat, a
        real twostroke!)

    Anker,	You are way over powering this ship. I'd reconsider.
    	I've seen them fly with small case supertiger 60 and they
   	 had plenty of power. Also I'd consider installing the bottom
    	wing with bolts. Simple.

776.4I know it's overpoweredCURIE::ANKERAnker Berg-SonneWed Nov 23 1988 11:4734
        re: .-1 and .-2

                I picked the kit up at the CRRC auction just over a month
        ago. The Lou Andrews kits are really hard to come by. I know of
        people who have hoarded them and build one for sale every now and
        then. One of those guys came to the 495'th auction with a
        finished plane that he wanted something rediculous for, I think
        the minimum was $300! He only brought it to advertise.

                Not only was I lucky to get the kit, but I got it for
        $45, which is a steal.

                I know a .91 is grossly overpowered, but contrary to most
        flyers I don't want to hotdog around at full throttle, but
        instead apply the power that is needed to whatever maneuver I am
        executing. The .91 allows me to carry a larger, steeper prop
        than a .61 would, and the Aeromaster can easily carry the weight.
        I have seen an aeromaster with an O.S. 1.20 four stroke that
        performed incredibly well.

                I will use rubber bands for the lower wing mainly to
        preserve the appearance of the kit. The upper wing mounting is
        really interesting and it would be a shame to change it.

776.5So you're the luck one?!?!WMOIS::JORGENSENWed Nov 23 1988 12:0216
Sounds like you stumbled on some luck with that kit - *good deal!!*
If anyone else knows of a LA kit, I'd be real interested in buying
it.

I also like the rubber-band method of attaching the wings, but I think
I might consider an alternate method of holding the gear in place??
Dick Bartlett logged several hundred flights on his LA model, all
rubber-banded together... he even had gear mounted on the top wing for a
while for inverted landing.... no problems with the rubber-bands.
Dick has also got several kits tucked away for a rainy day... :*(

    Let's hear how you make out...

776.6My possible entriesLEDS::WATTWed Nov 23 1988 13:3116
    I have two possible entries for the building contest. (No, make
    that three):

    1. Super Sportster 90 with 1.2 4-stroke (95% complete now but easily
    qualifying by Dan's rules since it hasn't flown yet.

    2. Electrostreak (on order from Tower should see it in time to
    build it.)

    3. Tippo pattern ship. Had this under construction for much too
    long. (I haven't set up a paint both yet.)

    I want to get all three done for next flying season.

    Well, as I mentioned in 713.1, I am planning on quite a few projects
    for the winter. The only additions to this list are:

    Definite:
        Flite Line (?) Skooter II w/ O.S. .25 FP (For flying in Phoenix!!)

    I'll probably enter the Skooter II, Astro Challenger, and Big Stik 20
    in the contest. Electrostreak and electric Blue Angel will probably
    also be entered if I get them finished in time...

    Well I have a number of project under way. Any one might be submitted
    into the contest. But only one.

    	1) Hot Shot ... my name for the 28 sized ship I'm building
    from my own design.

    	2) Saulnier Type "L".. this is the ship I'm building from a
    Balsa USA Stick 40 kit.

    	3) Beech Twin. Enlarged from an RCM plan for twin .28's

    	4) Falk Rivets. Quay Barbar Kit. I'm sending back the shoestring
    and in return getting a rivets kit. Should have the kit in January.

    	5) T2A MKIII 61 sized pattern bird.

        Re:< Note 776.0 by SA1794::TENEROWICZT >

                The Supersonic Aeromaster is nearing completion. Before
        I try to fly it and destroy the beautiful finish I'd like to know
        how to enter it. Is it done with pictures, by showing it,
        videotaping it, or what? Tell me, Snowman.

                The metallic Monokote looks glorious. The covering job
        isn't quite perfect, but I did as well as I could.

                If this weekend turns out to be nice and the drop zone is
        available I may have the maiden flight then. If the weather
        turns out to be good during the week I may even take it to
        Central Mass. Did they change the lock yet, Charlie?

776.15Gimme an engine categoryCURIE::ANKERAnker Berg-SonneWed Nov 30 1988 17:4032
        Re:< Note 776.14 by ROCK::MINER "Electric = No more glow-glop" >

                You've got to add a category for best running engine :-)

                I took the Supersonic Aeromaster out after getting home,
        fueled it up, primed with three flips, flips again, throttled
        down, put the nistarter on, flipped it and it started right up.
        Amazing for a brand new, never before run engine.

                I use the Harvey Thomasian method of running in. Run at
        full throttle and almost too rich to run for a minute or two.
        Shut it down and let it cool off, repeat several times. Then run
        it very rich again and start leaning out but richen as soon as it
        gets out of four cycling. This allow the engine to stabilize and
        start hardening.

                When I had almost run the talk empty I held the plane
        vertical and just let it out of the four cycle. Plenty of pull
        upwards - this thing is going to be spectacular. Just for fun I
        held on to the top of the stab and let go of the wing. Balanced
        nicely - I can't wait. This weekend better have decent weather -
        I know I won't be able to wait.

  Well...The Kadet is ready for flight (I know, I said that 3 months ago) and
I have started on the Goldberg Cub. So I will be entering these 2 planes
in the contest. The Cub is going to be painted as a WWII liaison plane
(ie: camouflage). I am not going for true scale on this one, just
kinda-sorta-almost-but-not-quite scale.

   Jim

  P.S. I am considering using an OS .40 FP with the full size wing. The
	instructions say that this will make it a scale-like floater. Am
	I really pushing it as far as underpowering it goes??
