638.0. "Greater Maynard Chapter and flying field" by MURPHY::ANKER (Anker Berg-Sonne) Sat Jul 30 1988 19:52

Progress is being made in a flying filed for the greater
	Maynard Chapter.

Corporate Real Estate is working with Risk Management to
ensure AMA insurance covers DEC's needs. I also sent them copies
of flying rules for CRRC and CMARC.

From them I have a formal lease agreement that Dan Miner
and I have reviewed and are happy with, but would like
clarification on two points: Ability to bring visitors to the
flying site and some legalise we don't understand. I plan to
return the lease agreement signed and with the questions
	attached.

The AMA application has gone in to register us as an AMA
chartered club. Membership is minimal, but enough to get us the
charter: Dan Snow, Jim Cavanagh, Dan Miner, Willie Smith, Bill
Bruckert and Anker Berg-Sonne. Dan Miner is the President, Jim
Cavenagh is the Vice President and I am the secretary.
	Membership dues are currently $5.

The site we are working on is land by the Lancaster House
conference center. The site we previously looked at, called the
East Terrace, will be dug up for a gas pipeline any time. Work
is anticipated to take about a year - bad. On the other side of
the facility is the West Terrace, which can be used until May
1989, when a sewer line will be installed and we will be kicked
off the site. Since I hadn't seen the West Terrace I drove up
there today and inspected it. It's usable, but the ground has a
definite slope to it and we would have to put the runway scross
the slope. After looking at the West Terrace I wandered all the
way around the facility and discovered that the top of the hill
south of the conference center is better than any of the
terraces. It's reasonably flat and the grass has been mowed
roughly. Because of the hill the tree lines are relatively low.
If we have the pits about 200 yards from the parking lot and fly
away from the conference center outside working hours this looks
like it could be a wonderful permanent site. I will contact the
site manager and discuss this option.

I am an optimist and believe we could have a flying site
	in about a month.

To gain access to it you will have to join the Greater
Maynard Chapter or pay an exorbiant fee for each visit.

I'm the secretary. Send the money to me.

Lancaster House is just off route 2 in Lancaster.
Driving west from 495 take the second exit after the Fort Devens
exit (I beleive it's Lancaster/Shirley) and go south on Route 70.
Just after you cross route 2 take the first street right and
Lancaster house is on the left about 300 yards down the road.

    Anker,
I am also interested in being active in this venture. I am
pretty busy on weekends until mid September, but I will then be
very available. I'll get my $$ to you at the next meeting if I
    can make it. Good work!!!

What ever happened to the request to use the field at the Lancaster
house? I have been there several times, and have also thought it
     could make a good sight.

                                       Just Wondering,

        Dan,

I got tired of trying to get Risc Management to review
our proposal. Another issue is the amount of interest within the
membership in maintaining a field. If there is a strong
interest, I'll be willing to take a crack at it again.

I have been past it a couple of times, and the gas
pipeline work seems to be completed, so the lower field may be an
        option again.

This note is under the heading GREATER MAYNARD CHAPTER flying field.
It was my understand that the Lancaster site was going to be a DEC
field as we don't have one yet.

638.8Nothing yet....but still hopeful...AKOV11::CAVANAGHSo little time, so much to do!Mon Jul 17 1989 15:2413

I talked to Risk Management last week and with a little luck we will
know something this month. I'll keep everyone posted.

   Jim

(P.S. Since there is no flying field at this time, let's avoid
the notesfile politics that have come up in the past....at
	 least until we know something.)

                         < If I can help? >

Both myself (DECRCM) and Doug Alden (CRRC, and a future DECRCM)
are very much interested in seeing Lancaster become a flying sight.
I am willing to help out with both aquiring the field, and
    with future maintenance.
I work at Westminster, and I believe Westminster facilities is
responsible for the Lancaster House. If I can be of any help, let
me know, and Doug and I can plug away from up here.
