375.0. "How to clean Airplane for Repaint/Cover" by MDVAX1::SPOHR () Mon Nov 23 1987 09:14

Does any one have a good method of getting oil out of balsa so it
can be repainted. I have been thru 3 cans of k2r, but some places
resist cleaning. When it appeared clean I sprayed it with primer
& sure enough there were spots where oil remains.

I know somewhere we had this discussion before, but I couldn't find
it. I apologize for asking you to duplicate the effort, but would
appreciate the knowledge. I'm getting sick of flightless weekends.

    Thanks,

    Chris Spohr

I have given up try. I seal the affected area with thin CA, sand,
seal again, and cover/paint. Usually works. Fast too.

I had heard about trying thin CA, but was told that Formula U
(urethane) won't stick. Can someone verify this. It would great
if I could just CA it.

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris,

I've never heard about the incompatibility problem with Formula-U
vs CA adhesives that you mention. There's a sure way to find out
for sure though; slap a little CA in thin film on a scrap piece
of balsa and have at it with the Formula-U...if it sticks, great
and if not, yer' info is accurate.
