601.0. "The Seasons" by EAGLE1::EGGERS (Tom, VAX & MIPS architecture) Wed Dec 21 1988 07:55

    Winter is icumen in,
    Lhude sing Goddamm,
    Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
      Sing: Goddamm!

    		Ezra Pound, Ancient Music

In fact, winter arrives in the Northern Hemisphere
at 10:28 am EST (15:28 GMT) today, 21 December 1988.
Just in time for Christmas. "Goddamm!"

Tom.

I do appreciate you know your classics. I even accept your authority where it
concerns the English classics. Therefore I ask: isn't it "Liude" instead of
"Lhude"? Or shall we ask Steve? :-)

As for seasons, Lord Byron described the English
winter as "ending in July, to recommence in August".

Snow should be reserved for Christmas cards. It's to cold for my
