ages using search and can't find it...
Now that I have been 'rolled out' with exchange I need to know how to
locate notes files with the pc versions of notes (In this case
Teamlinks Conferencing) I can't use just HUMANE::DIGITAL_UK for
instance.
I would appreciate a pointer to this info.
Many thanks

| Well, from the VAX notes interface you can do a
"show entry uk_digital" and note the node name and the file name.
Put these in the popup box for "Notebook...Add"
Jc
(and don't dare say that you have 500+ to add:-)

| From the Teamlinks Conferencing you can access a remote notebook,
e.g. your existing notebook on CHEFS, and then copy to your local
notebook.
I suggest you contact the helpdesk on 6464 and get someone to talk
you through the process - this is what I had to do to get VTX and
Notes up and running from the PC environment.

I've done that but the teamlinks confrencing won't recognise the
nodename. What I need is the translation from <DECNET NODENAME>:: to
the TCPIP <node>.<location>.dec.com

| Hi, Jim...
Under Options -> Setup
try setting up a route through node - use WOTVAX.OLO.DEC.COM.
That should enable you to use the existing notebook entries without any
modifications.

I went through all this!
As an example, I used the following syntax for the remote notebook path:
disk$end_user_9:[taylorm][email protected]
I suggest you try 6464 if you have any further problems.

If in real problems, I will even create accounts on there for you to use.
Its WELPCP and is DECnet node 41.96 or tcp node 16.183.48.114.

I *think* that for accessing via Netnotes (rather than the Teamlinks
notes interface), something specific has to be set on the system which
is running the notes conference. I think this is something in the
System startup procedures (sorry, I'm a bit hazy....). I've not been
able to see many Notes conferences via Netnotes.

Re: accessing notes after CHEFS or WOTVAX.
I thought that each site would have its own server. ie. HHL has HHLSV1 and
Reading has REOSV1 to REOSV4. These have CCS Kits and I thought could be used
to access remote ALL-IN-1 for Visitors and notes etc. Unlike WELPCP (So
that's where our VAX went Alan) will be backed up on a regular basis.

The document I saw on the migration stated that Notes was not a business tool
and therefore there was no migration plan. Whoever wrote that was, of course,
completely unaware of the huge benefits of network collaboration tools and
their wide use in Digital. Even so, their narrow view of the world will mean
that any servers that might exist today provided by CCS (who are they?) will
not be necessarily be there tomorrow.

| Alan,
Thanks - working now.
I had to have CCS rebuild my laptop after I blew away Exchange - nobody
bothered to tell me that CCS workbench supplies a special version of Exchange
which doesn't live where Microsoft intended and when I tried to get fax
working...you can guess the rest !
Still haven't got fax and a few other desirable bits but I'm keeping my hand
off for the moment.
After the rebuild with CCS workbench V1.2 I had to hand-crank a number of bits
and I seemed have lost HOSTS and LMHOSTS so I have just created these from the
sample files.

| You shouldn't need to faff around with hosts and lmhosts if your
using WINS.
|
295.54 | And there you have it ! | 42080::16.194.144.77::Meacock | Alan's Laptop | Mon Jun 02 1997 19:25 | 3 |
| As I discovered today at Newmarket when I couldn't print - I'm not using WINS
and for various reasons which are far too boring I will not worry about it for
now...

| WINS assumes that
a) there is a WINS server which is accessable and defined on your PC
b) The server to which you want to get at broadcasts its name so that the
WINS server can see it.
In NKT you cannot rely on either assumption. So, HOSTS and LMHOSTS is a
good way to go.
