Just got the news in saturdays French newspapers : Jean Todt, boss of Peugeot Sport has unveiled the new Peugeot 905 which will compete in the new 3.5 litre endurance championship next year. Also present with Jean in front of the press guys were Jacques Calvet, boss of Peugeot SA (holding company) and Jean Boillot, boss of Peugeot Cars. Very little has been said about the future car. It will start testing in March. The test driver is Jabouille at this point. No announcement on next year's race drivers. The engine is a V10. To the question "will you go to F1 racing ?" Jean Todt answered "it depends on the success of the 905 programme, should it be successful like we hope, no we wont touch F1". Finally Jean reaffirmed that Peugeot wants to race cars that look like the road cars and that's the reason they don't place F1 too high in their priorities. Have the readers of this notesfile seen/heard the same announcement ?

I knew that Peugeot had plans to enter WSPC, they announced it last season. JMB immediatley announced they wouldn't be allowed to use 4WD. At that time they were proposing to contest one or two races at the end of this season (FISA willing) before a full season next (91). But the "905" is a bit of a shock. R.

Saw it on the telly over the weekend - a beautiful looking car - it looks just right. It has a V10 - they reckon it is a good compromise (complexity vs torque vs friction etc.). It will be tested extensively this season, and they will run it in the last two WSPC races, as preparation for a full season in 1991.

Nice-Matin today. Photo and a few details: - engine : V10 at 80 degrees, 4 valves per cyl - gearbox : homemade, 6 gears - steering : 2WS and optional 4WS for specific circuits - chassis : made by Dassault Aviation (who also supply their CAD tools - CATIA, etc) - tyres : Michelin - total weight: 750kg The 905 will be a Peugeot-Dassault-Michelin effort rather than pure Peugeot. Engine will run on the bench this month. Full car with engine will be testing in June with Jabouille. 17 engines being built. If FISA agrees, Peugeot will enter the 905 in the last 2 races of the 1990 championship (7-Oct in the USA, 21-Oct in Mexico). Next year there will be 2 cars per event, except LeMans where they plan to enter 3 cars. |
