Saw the TV preview last night. Quite impressed by some of the new
models -- BMW 8 series, Merc G Wagon, CRX (?) -- but disappointed
that the "average" price for a new car is ( as much ) as 9,000.00
pounds !
Does this suggest a "healthy" second-hand market in the future ?

Hopefully Sunday's program will be a bit more in-depth as last
night's just seemed to concentrate on run-of-the-mill cars (Ok a
lot people want to buy run-of-the-mill cars, but they'll go to
their dealers for them) with a quick mention of the new Aston (doesn't
look as good in Red as it did in green) and a drool over the Mirov II
, oops sorry, the NSX.
No mention of the new TVRs, Ginettas or Marcos. The big boys of the motor
industry will plug their own cars enough, so why not give these
interesting manufacturers a bit of a plug. Maybe more people would buy
the Ginetta G32 instead of MR2s if they knew it existed!
I'll just have to set the video to see what Sunday's program has to
offer (although if it's like the Farnborough Airshow programs it'll
just be last nights with a few extra bits thrown in).
Mark
PS No mention of the 4x4 Calibra either.

The program was ok, but what can you do in 35 minutes (don't answer
that!)?
I rather liked the Toyota people carrier with the under floor
mid-mounted engine. More stylist than the Espace, which I also
like.
As for the rest, I must admit that they mostly look the same. All
largish cars look like the Cavalier (new or old style) and the small
ones look like 205s. This even applies to the insides of the cars.
Sports cars were hardly mentioned (apart from the Honda and the
Aston Martin). Where were the MX5, the MR2, the Panther et al?
Maybe on Sunday.

Looked ok, but I can't say I like the idea of being in a vehicle
with a door only on one side. What happens if the car rolls onto that
side? And she never did explain how you got to the engine, to do
such things as change spark plugs.

None of these models are new for the show, so you can understand
that they wouldn't be plugged by the show or, for that matter,
their manufacturers (except Panther who probably need all the help
they can get to sell Solos.)

I went by train on Monday, it cost 21.50 from Reading for the trip
and the entrance fee. It would have been just as quick by car, but
it's easier to catnap on the way back in a train...

Well I was at the Motor Show on Friday 21-Sep-90 and my day out
cost me 50 approx and a severe cold ! It also took me around
6 1/2 hours to get there and approx 7 1/2 hours to get home (stopping
off for 1/2 hour dinner break!). That got me home for around 4.30am
on Saturday morning and then back in here for a 7.30am start - What
a day !
On a whole I thourghly enjoyed it, it certainly beats the Scottish
show as last year we didn't have the likes of Porsche, Ferrari etc.
The only bad point to the day was obtaining a terrible cold, my
passenger door window would not go back up and driving for 300+
miles in the middle of the night with the window alomost full way
down is certainly not enjoyable !
