They do still exist - they've just released a new single here in the
UK, though it's title eludes me for the moment.
If I find out any more I'll enter it here.
Cheers,
Derek.

I like the Human League, but some of the latter stuff is a bit
naff, although I like the "Dare" album.

| There is a 'Greatest Hits' album being released shortly - I heard
a track-listing on the radio this morning and it contained most
of their biggies such as "Love action", "Fascination", "Mirror Man",
"Don't you want me", "Being bolied" etc. However, it doesn't seem
to contain "Hard Times" which has to be my all-time fave Human League
track.

But is their version of Gazza's classic "Rock'n'Roll Part II" on
it?
I also *love* Open Your Heart - Phils singing on this and all their
other stuff is always natural and un-mannered, a good voice to listen
to.....

| Yup, 'Love Is All That Matters' is the last track on Side Two of
their last studio set, "Crash", released in 1986. This album aslo
contains the hit single, 'Human', and the flop follow-up, 'I Need
You Loving'.
The 'Greatest Hits' set looks like a winner, but I have to agree
with an earlier comment that 'Hard Times' should've been included
as it's also probably my favourite HL track.

| Re. .9, here are a few others missing from your collection :-
'Empire State Human' 7"
'Boys And Girls' 7"
'Nightclubbing'/'Rock'n'Roll double 7"
'Reproduction' LP
From your note, it's obvious that you've only been collecting since
around the release of 'Dare' - good luck in tracking down the above
earlier releases. I don't think you'll have too much trouble tracking
them down in a decent second-hand store in good nick.

Wrong way round. Two guys in Heaven 17 (martin ware and ian ?) were
original members of the League and left to form the new band along
with founding BEF. They left pre-Dare.

Re: .14
Correct. Ware and ?? were the brains behind the Human League
(note the "politcal" overtones of some of their early stuff).
When they left, the remainder of the League decided that they
needed something to attract attention to the band and hired
some not-too-bad-looking-girls. (paraphrased from an old interview)
BEF produced music by other people ("Music of Quality and
Distinction"? or something like that)
and Heaven 17 continue to make records. "Penthouse and Pavement"
their first being my fave.

| 6 Facts
1. Martyn Ware and Ian Craig-Marsh (founder members of the Human
League) received 1% of the total royalties of Human League Mk2 album
"Dare" in exchange for relinquishing the band name to Phil Oakey.
....An awful lot of money !!
2. When Martyn and Ian left The Human League they formed a production
company "The British Electric Foundation" (B.E.F.). This was a proper
registered company with shares divided between Martyn, Ian and Bob
Last, the latter being manager of the original Human League !!
3. Martyn and Ian could well have chosen Glenn Gregory to be vocalist
for the original Human League as opposed to Phil Oakey, since Glenn
also frequented Sheffield youth project, Meatwhistle, where Human
League formed.......only Glenn moved down to London.
4. This Glenn Gregory was to become vocalist for B.E.F. project
"Heaven 17". This project was to become so successful that they
were later to fold the production company and focus all their efforts
on Heaven 17
5. Martyn Ware is making more money producing than being a member
of Heaven 17. He has produced for the likes of Paula Yates (Bob
Geldof's wife), Dan Hartman, Tina Turner, Terence Trent D'Arby,
The Associates, Sandie Shaw etc etc
6. The Human League now just consist of Phil Oakey and the two girls
that he "picked up" at the Crazy Daisy Disco in Sheffield ! They
are currently recording in the same vein as Human League MK1 (or
trying to).
7. The split was bitter, but now apparently both Heaven 17 and the
Human League are the best of mates again.

| Absolutely fantastic. They were on Wogan last night and I sang
the song to myself all evening. Like the way Phil Oakey has got
his hair all long again and back at one side, almost like the way
it was in the "Dare era".
Suzanne is still as much of a tart as ever and Joanne is still
as shy as shy can be.
Other than that, "Heart Like a Wheel" (turning away from anything
that's real), is one CD I shall be purchasing.

Check out the B side Rebound in which I think they are trying to echo the sounds

ace and had a brill boogie to all the eighties songs I thought I'd
forgotten. Thet also did their two new ones..a top show and that guy
has an amazing voice and looks great as well..the support was Blair who
were quite Jamiroqui'ish , I quite good really.
