Just to tidy up -
The answer to .8 is Robert Fripp, who played guitar for the
League of Gentlemen and produced the Roaches first album (as well as
playing an all-time classic guitar solo on 'Hammond Song').
There now, that should get us back in order (I'm not going to enter
a new one, so the confusion should end now :-) :-)

it funny that none of the people listed are any good? Why they
think they can get away with it just because their father/mother
did I don't know. All of the people listed were outstanding in
their particular music fields., acts that you wouldn't DARE follow.
Obviously musical talent isn't heriditary. Worst offender in this
category must be the atrocious offspring of the great Nat Kings
Loins, Natalie Cole. How on earth did she expect to follow an act
as good as him?!

| The hell it does!!! I think I know the answer - Level 42 'poached'
a guitarist from Go West fairly recently. The guy's name slips
my mind for the moment, but I do recall reading something about
it in 'Look-in' or summat 8-)
Related question - this guitarist has quite a unique sound to his
playing. Can any of you clever noters tell me if it is he who plays
the excellent solo on Nick Heyward's "Warning Sign" (sadly a non-hit
from a couple of years ago)?

Re. a few back, and the comments from our friendly neighbourhood
Mr. Moderator - how can you possibly term my *trivia* question
obcsure??? All of the bands listed (ahem, with the exception of LOVE
AND MONEY) have had TOP 40 hits in the last year. Admittedly not
many people would know the lead singers' names, but at least someone
got it in the end, and a one or two were pretty close.
Or as someone suggested, would you rather it went along the lines
of "Who had hits in 1987 with 'Never Gonna Give You Up' and ....."???
Somehow I think it'd quickly die a death.
OK Michael - it's all yours!!!!!

Correct. Give the boy a coconut. I don't think that I could have been much
heavier in my hinting.
Before his mega C&W stardom Glen Campbell was a much respected session
guitarist and having seen him once or twice on the TV I would confirm that he
is a damn fine axe-man.
He played guitar on Blonde on Blonde as did Robbie Robertson of the Band
(credited as Jaime Robbie Robertson for some reason).
When Brian Wilson freaked out early on and decided not to tour then Glen
Campbell actually went on tour as a Beach Boy. Brian stayed at home and
produced 'Pet Sounds' singlehanded.
Anyway take it away Herr Spurtle.

Actually, no. However, you're warm, because there is a reference to
CC in the lyrics. I wasn't aware of the film (is that the one where
he's working on a factory production line, doing up nuts?), but now
you mention it, that's probably where the title came from.

and they carried a sharp-tooth comb

BTW The full lyrics are:

but when the big bear bit deep after Yalta
there were those who came to forget
they went out west for the screening
and they carried a sharp-tooth comb
in search of the double meaning

so get up! go on! grip that stand!
and press your hand to your heart
big Mac is asking the questions
and this is only the start
now Mac came on hot and noisy
in his search for old Uncle Joe
as he tracked him down to Tinsel Town
for Boise, Idaho
and the folks that queued up for Coogan
now queued up for the end of a myth
to sit open-mouthed at the newsreel
the night that Chaplin took the fifth

dropped like a Wurlitzer into the pit

by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. It was billed as 'their nth number

before being pushed off by 'Do they know it's Christmas' by
BandAid the week after.
Still, there must have been hundreds of number ones lasting only
one week, so it's a trick question. Would it by any chance be the

| I admire your ingenuity, Ray, but sorry again...
The answer is:
"Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto d'Aranjuez" by Manuel & his Music of the
Mountains.
What happened is as follows:
When Johnny Walker announced the chart on 17th February 1976, Manuel
(alias Geoff Love) replaced Slik at No.1. However, the chart didn't
look quite right - several records had huge changes in position.
For example, Donna Summer's "Love To Love You Baby" had dropped
from No.5 to No.42!
Someone realised there'd been a mistake (someone with taste?) and
did the obvious thing - they blamed the computer.
Three hours later a replacement chart was issued. This time the new
No.1 was The Four Seasons' "December '63" - Manuel was only at
No.4. And so it gets the honour of being the shortest-lived No.1 of
all time - just three hours!
So here's another question:

Me: select Guinness book of hit singles, find four or five in 1968,
guess that the most likely one is "Blue turns to Grey", rang in, got
through, won two tickets to see the man himself.
Three weeks later: Capital Radio, Kid Jensen phone in quiz: he plays
"Blue turns to grey", and then say "That single came from an unlikely
source for Cliff. Who wrote it?"

Bijou is one of the greatest french rock'n'roll group. They released in the

| All yours, Bob, though not strictly correct. The Moors Murderers were
mainly Chrissie Hynde, later of the Pretenders and Steve Strange, later
of Visage and Soho nightclubs. I admit I don't remember who the other
two members were, so they may well have been Pretenders too.
The nearest Ian Brady and Myra Hyndley got to chart success was their
names being mentioned in the Ronnie Biggs "Cosh the Driver" single. But
I'm sure Malcom McLaren's got plans for an album if either of them ever
get let out...

187.659 | Name this band | TENERE::LADRET | | Mon Jul 09 1990 10:52 | 15 |
| I have one :
What's the name of this 60's english group that never gained worldwide
recognition (that's the least we can say) but that achieved some glorious feats:
1) Release "My Degeneration" as an answer to the Who's "My generation",
2) During a gig in a church they made a cover of the Stones' "Satisfaction"
with the following chorus : "I can't get no ressurection",
3) Their last one : release "Penny lane" the day after the Beatles did it !
Quite an obscure band,
Good luck,

Was it Seal or Adamski who had Killer....
Actually it was both of them. The song was written by Tinley/Seal
seeing as Tinley=Adamski then it was a joint effort. The first release
was by Adamski featuring Seal. The second, a remix from the album Seal,
was a solo, from Seal. Of course Killer was part of the Five Live E.P.
and therefore reached number one in the singles chart by George
Michael, but he only sung it. I hope that clears things up.
Rich.
(I actually bought Killer by Seal on Cd single at a record fair last
weekend. It has 7 (yes 7) tracks.
1/ Killer - Single version
2/ Killer - William Orbit dub
3/ Whirlpool (live)
4/ Come see what love has done (live)
5/ Killer (live)
6/ Hey Joe (live)
7/ Killer - William Orbit remix
not bad for 2.50

Actually Guiness lists the title as:
"Theme from M*A*S*H (Suicide is Painless)"

Hmmmm. Interesting. I recall hearing the tune in the late sixties
on college radio (the version with the words) before the original Mash
movie came out. This is not an argument just an observation. You are
correct with your entry anyway if for no other reason but the fact that
the M*A*S*H theme is used as an instrumental. There are probably a lot
of people that don't even know there are words to the tune. (or not)

That's it. John and Yoko had pretty much got the song
together themsleves, but they needed a drummer for the
recording - so John asked Paul to do it! :-)
