    I agree with you about how expensive airfare can be.  Yet, there
    are some cheap fares out there when the timing is right!  I found
    this out while planning for my honeymoon ( November 12, 1989).  I
    also called Delta and others about round trip tickets to Orlando
    and was quoted some fairly high prices.  Since it is our honeymoon
    I figured I should just get the tickets (but I waited).  This is
    when the "airfares" war started and ticket prices dropped.  By adding
    one day to my honeymoon and returning on Sunday instead of Saturday,
    the price of our tickets were reduced in half!!! Instead of paying
    $800.00, we now only have to pay $396.00.  Also, just because Delta
    is the "Official" airline of WDW, does not mean that they are the
    cheapest.  I got my tickets through USair and they were very helpful
    with juggling my flight schedule around to give me the cheapest
    fare possible.  Give them a call.

I've had very good luck using Peidmont Air (now US Air).
You can call their toll free number and ask to speak their
vacation package people or call a travel agent (I used Stow Travel).

They have many different packages that include Air, Hotel,
Rental car, plus various discounts. We statyed at the Hilton Inn
Main Gate last April.

The prices for last April for the cheapest package was:

$314 per adult for 3 nights, $407 per adult for 7 nights
Children's prices are the same in both cases at $170.
These prices include airfare, hotel, and rental car and discounts.

They also have prices that just include Air and Car (or transfers)
but they are not much cheaper than the total package prices.

I've looked at a lot of packages and theirs is the chaepest I've found
and the service they supply is good.

    MKC prices *are not* the lowest prices around.  Try buying the
    airline ticket in advance, no changes/no refunds for the lowest
    price, also fly mid-week to mid-week...not on the weekends.  I just
    spoke to the travel agent I used last October and they quoted $302.50
    RT from Boston, must buy 7days in advance, fly out Sun-Wed, fly back 
    Tue-Fri.  BTW it is cheaper to fly out of Portland, ME than it is out
    of Boston, $290.
    
    Unfortunately, there are no seats available during April Vacation week.
    Week of 15-apr, that is.  

    If you're daring, try Eastern right now.  I have tickets leaving
    October 14, a Saturday, and returning the 23rd, a Monday, for $198
    roundtrip.  The tickets right now have no restrictions.  I changed
    the schedule 4 times.  The original left October 13, a Friday,
    returning on Friday, 20 October for $238.  The travel agents I have
    talked to said that Eastern is running well right now and that the
    future looks positive even with the strike.

    There were coupons in yesterday's paper (Middlesex News) for
    Continental - $198.00/round trip and Orlando was one of the
    locations.  Some of the restrictions I remember are:  travel
    must begin by December 12th (or thereabouts); tickets must be
    purchased by OCtober 20th; must include a Saturday stay; and
    the tickets are non-refundable but for a fee of $75.00 they
    could be changed.
    
    The coupons were in the magazine section of the newspaper.

    Thanks for all the informative replys.  We have decided to cancel
    our trip for April and go on a Carnival Cruise, (their newest ship
    the Fantasy).  We have put off Disney until late August early September
    timeframe.   I hated calling the Carribean and cancelling, I thought
    I was gonna cry, but we have been to Disney the past 2 years in
    May so we figured we should go in another timeframe.  I thought
    August/September would be nice.  I'm still planning the trip now
    because I want the best deals around and I figure I have 10 months
    to plan it in.  THANKS AGAIN!
    

    Its always worth calling around and keeping an eye on the papers
    for 'airfare wars'.  My wife and I are going to WDW 12/4 thru 12/14
    and were originally going to drive.  After noticing that American
    Airlines had a special promotion going, we gave them a call and
    ended up with a roundtrip price of $203.00 per person.  Restrictions
    do apply, but the fare could have been as low as $198.00.  The flight
    orginates in Boston and makes a connection in Nashville.
    
    As a fairly frequent flyer, a word of warning.  Nothing spoils a
    trip, business or pleasure, more than really messed up airline
    connections and bad service.  Don't forget that the airline trip
    is how you start and how you end your vacation, therefore it has
    a large influence on how you feel about the vacation as a whole.
    
    Try to fly the airlines with reasonable service and equipement like
    Delta, American, Northwest, and United.  I have had nothing but
    problems with Eastern and Continental.  Lately, I have begun to
    think that US Air really stands for Unbelievably Slow Air.  The
    service you may have expected from Piedmont will not be there on
    US Air.

We are going at the end of this month, and we discovered that if we
    fly into Tampa we will save over $150 per person.  Since we are
    getting a rental car and there are no mileage fees for it, we decided
    it was worth saving $150 per person to fly into Tampa and to make
    the hour and a half or so drive to Orlando from there.  Just a
    suggestion, but we fouind it worth it.

    I recently recieved a certificate from Northwest Airlines for a
    roundrip to anywhere in continental U.S. for $179.  I used this to book
    my plane reservations to Orlando (I've been planning on this trip since
    January).  I was able to get RT from Boston to Orlando, and actually
    return back to Worcester (via Detroit).  This worked out great for me.
    One restriction was that I had to stay over a Sat., but that was my
    preferred travel day anyway.  Naturally, no changes in plans allowed.
    
    I think this was part of a NW frequent flyer promotion.  It pays to
    join them all.

    3 more days (Oct 12/21) and I'll be on my way for 10 days in the 
    Magic Kingdom area.  This is my third trip and I'm as excited as I was 
    the first time I was going.  I guess I'm just a kid at heart.  I am 
    looking forward to going to MGM.  (Staying at the WDW Hilton).

    I purchased my Delta R/T ticket the 6th of September for $109/ea. way
    (traveling Thursday thru Saturday week end rates). 

    I've got 3 RT tickets already and will have a few more from United
    after this next business trip to Sydney, Singapore & Hong Kong. 
    The free FF tickets and the fact that my wife's aunt lives just 30
    miles from WDW is the ONLY way we can afford to go right now!!!

    Has anyone looked into the promotional that the Purity, Heartland,
    Angelos' Supermarket chain has for a Florida Trip?
    	The add states that if one accumulates $100 worth of grocery
    receipts (quite easy to do today!), and brings them into one of
    the above stores, up to 4 "travel certificates can be bought for
    $99.95 which each is good for travel one way from several major
    cities in the north to several Florida cities. This also includes
    2 nights lodging (their choice). Travel is good thru Dec. 1990.
    There are blackout dates but those were primarily at peak periods.
    	At $200 rt. it seems like a good deal even if one doesn't
    count in the lodging. Certificates must be sent in to someone
    called "Airfare Plus". There was no mention of the carrier(s).
    (starndard issue may be leather jacket, helmet, scarf, and 
    aviator goggles). 
    	I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has looked
    into this.

    	Eastern is advertising $99 one-way fares to many Florida
    destinations in the Boston media. No grocery receipts needed!

    We went in June/July to WDW and used the buy one/get one free deal
    to take my daughter and my niece free. The four of us flew RT for
    $560 to Orlando from Hartford.  All the airlines had a special deal
    for about 8 weeks in the spring.

    Delta paid  $40  million  dollars  to  Disney  for  the right to be the
    Official Airline of WDW and Disneyland. 
    
    So while you  bargain  hunters  are  shopping  around keep this in mind
    should Delta be a little more expensive than other airlines.

    I'm using vouchers from all those frequent flyer miles I have from
    United to get around the Airline travel.  I can also get a discount
    rate on a car from Hertz, also because of those frequent flyer miles.
    Otherwise, I can't afford to go.  It also helps that my wife's aunt
    lives just 30 miles south of Orlando...

    Off hand I'd say that the $40 mil that Delta paid results in more
    business due to association with the Disney name; fuller planes. 
    Consumers regarding Delta as a quality service; if it's good enough

    Sorry, this may have been true 10 years ago, but it's now a competitive
    market now that the Airlines are deregulated, and prices  do differ, so
    shop around for Airline as well as Travel Agents who  will go the extra
    mile to find a cheap fare, or DIY.
    
    However  it  is possible that all the Airlines flying from Portland  Me
    did  charge  the  same  to Orlando, this was never the case going  from
    Boston to Orlando in  '77 (Delta Cheapest), '82 (Eastern cheapest), '84
    (Peoples  cheapest)  and  '87 (Piedmont  cheapest),  so  you  may  even
    consider flying out of a diferent airport as well if it's feasable.

    Just a quick price update and a couple of comments.  My new husband
    and I made a spur of the moment decision to go to Florida to spend
    Christmas with his folks (and, of course, see MGM & Epcot!)  The
    whim solidified when our friendly travel agent found us round trip
    tickets on our choice of three different airlines for $260 per ticket.
    Peak.  (We leave the 19th and return the 27th -- smack in Disney
    peak for the holidays!)  Other times of the year better bargains
    may be had.  Delta was not in the three bargain fare leaders, but
    they are my preferred airline for comfort.
    
    One point being that any decent travel agent will work with you
    to find rates, if cheap rates are your priority.  But you have to
    let them know you are flexible about travel times and departure
    dates and all the things that make you eligible for bargain rates.
    (You can do the research yourself, but for most people it doesn't
    pay -- the agents get their commissions from the airlines, so you
    don't pay more through them, unless you are into flying standby
    or something... And they have access to Sabre, so they can find
    things fast.)  I'm not sure how special price war rates and frequent
    flyer deals figure in -- I only fly once every couple of years,
    darn it!!
    
    Also, an interesting pointer for NH flyers.  It is often cheaper
    to fly from Manchester (where parking is cheaper and safer, too)
    than to fly from Logan, even when you take a shuttle to Logan and
    fly out on the same plane!  I guess it's part of the plan to lessen
    the strain on Logan.  Check it out!

    RE: A good travel agent will find you a decent fare
    
    We were originally booked through our travel agent with round trip fare
    on American Airlines (Boston -> Orlando). Price: Between $1000 and
    $1200 for four (can't remember the exact number). This was booked 6-8
    months in advance. 
    
    The travel agent called within 45 days of our departure and told us she
    had just come across a special Delta fare which would change our
    departure times to and from WDW only slightly (ended up leaving Boston
    2 hours later as an example.) The price: $862 for four people. Quite a
    difference. So naturally, we made the switch. 
    
    The one thing she didn't tell us (which I wish she would have) was that
    there were special kids meals available. I should have known this on my
    own from all the traveling I've done, but then again, I've never
    brought my kids along. They were sitting there with there baked
    chicken, and the kid across the aisle had a cheeseburger. You can guess
    the rest .... "Daddy, I want a cheesburger too like that boy over
    there."

    	If you have a home computer and modem, and subscribe to the major
    networks: CompuServe, GEnie, Prodigy, etc., you can get into EASY
    Sabre, the consumer version of American Airlines' SABRE reservation
    system. The recently revised menus make it easy to find flights where
    and when you want to travel, and a new feature will search and list in
    order of price. It is duck soup to make the reservations, pay by credit
    card, etc and the tickets show up in the mail in a few days (if you've
    got time, otherwise pickup at ticket counter). 
    	I'm a contractor and occasionally travel on non-DEC business (so I
    can't use DEC Travel Services.) Easy Sabre is a godsend to me. -  Chris

	To get to Eaasy Sabre (the correct spelling, sorry):

	1. You need an account on CompuServe, GEnie, or one of the other
	services (I'm not sure Prodigy has Eaasy Sabre since they don't have
	options).

	2. To get on CompuServe: either call 1-(800)-848-8199 or write to:
 
	CompuServe Inc.
	500 Arlington Centre Blvd.
	P.O. Box 20212
	Columbus, Ohio 43200   and ask for the Introductory Subscription stuff.

	If you call, be prepared to copy a) the local CompuServe access number 
 	(usually not a toll call for most non-rural areas), and b) the 
	settings for your modem. Set the modem accordingly and issue the AT 
	commands (assuming the modem is Hayes compatible) to dial the number. 
	At the connect, follow the prompts for subscribing. 
		
	After you have a CompuServe subscription, password, etc, get on
	CompuServe and type GO SABRE and select menu item #5, and complete
	the "Application to use EAASY SABRE".  It will take some time to get
	your American Airlines AAdvantage Number in the mail. Then, you can
	use EAASY SABRE fully. Until then, you can browse, but not make
	reservations/order tickets.

	3. To get onto GEnie (do this in the evening - GEnie's daytime rates
	are Horrible, but their nighttime rates are great!), the procedure is:
		
	a) Set your modem for local echo (= half duplex)
			      either 300 or 1200 baud (1200 preferred!)
	b) Dial (issue AT command?) 1 800 638 8369

	c) When you get a connect, enter:   HHH  (three Cap. "H"s)

	d) at the U#=   prompt, enter:   XJM11701,GEnie
	   and hit <Return>
	   Have a major credit card or checking account number ready. 

	For more info on GEnie, or if problems, call 1-(800) 638-9636

	At the Main Menu of GEnie, chose the (Travel ?) selection and from 
	that menu chose EAASY SABRE. From the EAASY SABRE menu, choose the 
	Application to Use EAASY SABRE (I think). See above comments on
	AAdvantage Number.

	These procedures can be kinda complicated for a new services user, 
	and I've probably left out something, but at least you've got the 
	800 numbers to call so they can bail you out.

    OK OK OK OK OK, it is done.  I cancelled my cruise for many
    reasons and we are going back to the World.  We are going thru Crimson
    again, I like them, it will be our 3rd time in the last 3 years.
    The package is go as you please so we picked the day we wanted to
    go and return.  The package includes airfare, hotel (The Caribbean
    Beach Resort) rental car and all hotel taxes.  It does not include
    passes to the World, but we can picked them up at the Disney Store
    and use our Magic Kingdom Club discount.
    
    I want to thank everyone for all the information about airfares.
    
    We are leaving 10 weeks from today!

    We just made plans to go in early Feb... and got a good deal with
    American, only $158 r/t from Hartford -> Orlando.  We had to pay for
    the tickets within 24 hrs, they are non-refundable, and Hartford's a
    little further than Logan, but it's still pretty good.

    In adding to .29, along with American, US Air and Continetal are both
    offering reduced fare ($158 R/T) to many cities in FLA. However,
    departure to your destination must take place on May 1, 1990 or before,
    and your have to fly between Monday noon and Thursday noon.

    As long  as people qoute their source, list the restriction as to dates
    of travel, availibility etc,  period of time rates are good for, then I
    don't have a problem with  this,  since  I'll be able to determine when
    cleaning up this topic wether the info is still valid or not.

    From yesterday's Boston Herald.
    
    Pan Am and US Air.....Orlando air fare was $79.00 each way. Ticket's
    must be paid for within 24 hours of reservation, travel must start
    by 5/1/90. There was also one other airline further back in the
    paper that was matching that price. I believe it was American. Standard
    penalties for changes or cancellations.

    The other things that they (the airlines) don't tell you unless you ask
    specifically is that there are only a very small number of seats at the
    low fairs available on each plane (5 or 6 %), and there are several 
    periods of "blacked out" time when the percertage drops to zero. (I.E.
    Easter week and the week before and the week after)
    
    I fly to Florida several times a year and I now know that the airlines
    never give you a true bargain.  It always looks much better
    than it really is.

    Don't give up though!  When we booked last July ($250 RT), a lower fare
    appeared around August - we were told that no seats were available on
    the same flights we had tickets for (well, there's more to it than that,
    but that's the bottom line).  Then they announced another promotion in
    September/October (don't know exactly when - it's all what I like to
    call "pre-Disney"!).  We called that day and we were able to get our
    tickets refunded (NOTE: with supersavers you are still eligible for a
    lower fare on the same flight) and new tickets pruchased for $198 RT.
    This amounted to a savings of $216 ($52*4) which we put to good use at 
    WDW!
    
    So don't give up, and keep an eye on the paper - and this note - for
    new deals.
    
    Moe, whose wife is already trying to figure out how to afford to go
    	 again - what an angel!

    I hesitated to reply here, because I'm trying to add extra days
    to our upcoming vacation, and really don't need the competition.
     But, if you're flying down, you're probably not looking for a Ft
    Wilderness campsite anyway, so...
    
    SEVERAL airlines right now are running $158 RT fares from
    Boston-Orlando.  And, believe it or not, you can still get this fare
    for one of the busiest weeks of the year - February school vacation. 
    You have to fly mid-week to get that fare, but there sere still
    several flights available as of a few days ago (we booked a relative
    to come down and stay with us for a few days).  One thing I noticed
    though, you seem to have to insist that you want the LOWEST fare,
    and be persistent about it to get the travel agents to look for
    this (maybe they get a low commission for this stuff?).
    
    P.S.  If this note prompts anyone to arrange a much-deserved
    last-minute vacation to the World, I'll let you buy me a drink at
    Crockett's Tavern some night during the last two weeks of February (or
    anywhere else on site - we get around a lot).

    The whole deal comes to $700.00 a person.  We are going a Monday
    - Monday.  So it is 8 days and 7 nights.
    
    Package = Air (US AIR)
              Hotel (Carribean Beach Resort)
              Car (Compact from Superior)
              All Taxes
    
    I think it is a pretty good deal.
                             

Just a thought that you might do better by booking everything yourself
for example:

	Airfare for one about $250 (or $158 ?)
        Carribean for 7 nights about  560 + 10% tax
        Car rental about $130

		total = $996

			+ $250 per extra person for airfare

This would be cheaper if more than one person is going on the trip.
        
I've found that in almost all cases you can go cheaper by booking
everything on your own.

    My fiance and I have reservations made on American Airlines for our 
    honeymoon in May.  We could not find any specials that extended into
    May, but the travel agent told us that if WE spotted any specials
    on American Airlines we could get the cheaper rate.  
    
    I have been scanning the papers and have not seen anything yet, so if
    you happen to spot anything I'd be very grateful if you'd post it here.

	If you are going to Orlando between Sept. 5 1990, and Dec. 13, 1990,
	then book your airfare now, because round trip airfare from Boston
	or Manchester is in the $173-$178 range.  And that is leaving on a
	Saturday and coming back on a Saturday.  All the major airlines have
	rates this low, but a lot of the flights are already booked, even
	this far in advance.

	We managed to get flights on United from Manchester that leaves at
	6:50 am and arrives in Orlando at 11:15 am.  The flight coming back
	leaves Orlando at 1:10 pm and gets into Manchester at 5:28 pm.  Each
	of these flights has one stop in Washington-Dulles airport.  So, the
	times are not unreasonable, either.

	Book now and we'll see you down there.

    I *had* booked a non-refundable Delta ticket last Friday for Sept. 22
    thru Oct. 4 at $257.  When I heard about the $173 fare this morning, I
    started calling airlines.  
    
    Essentially, all the airlines are the same.  The $173 (or $178) is good
    for Saturday to Saturday travel only (since I'm getting married
    Saturday evening, I've got a small conflict ...).  If you return on a
    Tuesday or Thursday morning, the fare goes up to $198. 
    
    I ended up calling my travel agent to complain and threatened to cancel
    the tickets via a complaint to Citibank.  It turns out the vouchers had
    not been sent out ... so they cancelled my tickets and reissued them on 
    United at a $218 fare.  The $218 is for leaving Logan at 11:30(ish) AM
    Sunday the 23 of September, a one stop, no changes in Dulles.  The
    return is Thursday evening at 6:30(ish).  Again, a one stop, no change
    in Dulles.  I figured for the extra $20 taking the evening rather than
    morning flight would give me an extra day in Florida.
    
    Call the airlines back ... have them check dates and times.  You should
    be pleasantly surprised at the $$$ amounts.

	All that I did was to call the 800 number for United that I found
	in the Yellow pages (800) 241-6522.  I told the person the dates
	we are traveling, and said that we wanted the cheapest fares.
	Bingo, we got $178.  We also called Continental and they had a $178
	fare, but we didn't like the times of the flights.  UsAir had a
	$218 fare, which we obviously didn't take when we got the $178
	fare from United, but it proves that a number (if not all) of the
	major airlines have much cheaper fares for that time period.

	Call them back and let us know how you make out.

    After seeing these recent notes about lower fares in September through
    December, I called my travel agent. There are some lower fares
    available on Northwest in May. My tickets went down from $313 per
    person round trip (outrageous) to $197.75. They are a little more
    expensive since I am leaving Boston on a Thursday and returning
    on a Monday. They are issuing me a credit on my American Express
    for the difference. That pays for two nights at CBR! Thanks for
    the information on other discount fares, or I might have missed
    out on the discount.

    I passed the information about the fall discount fares on to a friend
    who is taking his family in October. When he called US Air, they
    told him that the discount fares expired in June. When he persisted,
    the representative checked and, sure enough, they were extended
    into the fall. He wanted me to thank all of you in the notesfile
    for saving him over $200 for four tickets.

    Last Friday I made my reservations for 20 April from Boston to Orlando 
    by way of Miami. Non Stop to Miami and then change to fly to Orlando
    Leave Boston at 1:15PM , arrive after change at 6:41.
    Leave Orlando at 3:15 PM on Friday 27 April change in Miami and arrive
    in Boston at 9:13.
    
    Tickets in hand @$197.98
    
    And, because I am flying Pan Am I get an Alamo rental car for $12.85
    on a compact with no drop charges.
    
    It was a long search, but when there are 4 people going every $10 one
    way change is an additional $80 out of pocket.

    	I made my reservations on March 15th for travel on the 31st
    	(Saturday a.m.) returning on Sunday the 8th and because of the
    	7 day advanced notice we got our tickets for $198.00 (R/T).
    	These are non-restricted fares from Boston to Orlando (connect
        in Washington DC) on Eastern.
    	
        I made them thru a local travel agent, but I'm sure the

    I did call United back and suddenly they *did* know about the lower
    fares. After checking pretty much all the airlines, I ended up 
    booking passage for 4 with US Air. They had the times available
    I wanted to leave and return. All the airlines seemed pretty
    competitive. A couple were already booked solid for the days/times
    I wanted. My cost is 178.50 each for 2 tickets, and 161.10 each
    for the other 2 after a senior citizens discount. There is a stop
    in North Carolina on the way down, and one in Philly on the return.
    
    This notes conference was very instrumental in my knowing about
    these low fares. Thanks to all!

    I booked tickets on Delta (non-stop Logan to Orlando) in May a couple
    weeks ago for $277.50 each.  This note prompted me to call them again.
    Surprise, the new fare is $198.50! ...so I'm getting a refund.  That's
    to all for this help.  BTW, this is Friday to Friday travel.

I got our seats yesterday, for travel in May.  We're paying $218 round trip, 
Worcester to West Palm Beach, US Air, non-refundable, non-changeable.  The 
travel agent found a $176 fare on Continental, but couldn't get seats for the 
times we wanted to fly.  Still, I'm happy with the $218 fare.  

My mother pays about $90-$100 each way, on a special senior citizen ticket 
that's good year round, but with limits on the days of week that she can 
travel.

    miles of US Air frequent flyer to cover the 3 of us.  But after reading
    this file last week, I decided to try United one more time.  The $218
    fare plus the $25 discount coupons I got for being a nice person at
    Dulles one miserable evening, brings this down to a reasonable fare and
    this way we all get Mileage-Plus credits!!!!   B>}

    I contacted DELTA recently and they have special fares for travel
    before May 1st.  R/T approx. $178.00 Logan to Orlando.  Fares are
    limited and restricted.

    Eastern R/T $197.99 1-stop 7 day advance purchase, no penalties

    Delta R/T   $242.00 0-stop          "            , 100% penalty
    
    Must be ticketed 24 hours after making reservation to guarantee these

    We just made reservations on Delta non-stop for Oct 27 returning Nov 3.
    I called yesterday at lunchtime, the 20th was booked, and the 27 had
    rates of 218.00 RT per person. I called back last night to make the
    reservations (I had to make sure we could get a room at the Carribean
    first) and the 218.00 were sold out for that day. So we have round trip
    non stop for 296.00 (better than 330.00 we paid 2 years ago). The Delta
    rep was very good, and said they are selling out the "cheap rates
    fast". Also I called the Magic Kingdom Club and they quoted a price of
    390.00 (50% ref), 296.00 (non-ref) after the 10% discount, so there was
    no savings to go through them. 

Last night Eastern ran an ad on TV, Kids fly for $29 one way to
Fla. from June 4 thru Sept 1.

I called my travel agent and she said that you might want to be cautious
about buying a ticket from Eastern just in case they go out of business
before your flight. She said to make sure that you use your charge
card to pay so that it is easier for you to get your money back, just
in case.  

Could be also that travel agents will loose some commission $
with the lower fares?
We'll see if other airlines follow Eastern's lead.

    we have a vacation booked in August that we were going to drive to due
    to lack of funds. last october it cost us $277.00 apeice round trip.
    for two adults and two kids it's costing us $512.00 total round trip.

    I just received a call from American Express Travel letting me know
    that the airfares have come down.  
    
    There are many rules and restrictions, but if you are holding tickets
    or have made reservations call your travel agent and see if you qualify
    for the reduction.

    I just went to an agency, and also called some Airlines (DELTA
    included).  The low rate for delta is really $178, and the seats
    are REALLY restricted!!  Other airlines are matching, but have
    odd restrictions on direction of travel vs. day of the week.
    Our trip is for 4/5, and there were literally no openings on
    any good flights - flights further out into May should be better.
    
    If there really is a $138 flight, the airlines won't admit to it!!

    I spoke to my sister-in-law, a travel agent.  She called Delta to
    confirm the news report.  Delta is matching any of American's flights,
    which some are reported to be at $138 RT from Boston to some Florida
    destinations.  I have a flight booked from Boston to Tampa for my son
    on April 5th, was at $198 and she did get this reduced to $178.
    
    She scanned her booking system and nothing was under $178 RT to Florida
    as of yesterday at 2:00pm EST.  She did say she would look again today,
    as the prices have been going crazy lately.  I'll post more info, as I
    get it from her.

    flown to Fla. before and are wondering about airfare. After looking in
    this note I'm not sure what kind of range they are looking at for a

    Airfares tend to change on almost a day-to-day basis.  You have to keep
    watching for good fares, or find an EXCELLENT travel agent.
    
    At this point there don't seem to be too may bargin fares.  This might
    change at any moment, however.  It sometimes seems if someone sneezes
    it sets off a fare war.
    
    $178 per person round trip is an excellent fare from New England to
    Florida anytime.  I would grab anything under $200 pprt.

    With summer vacation on the horizon, a new volley of low fares and
    incentives may have travelers flying high.
    
    Northwest Airlines led the pack last week, trimming 17 percent off
    previous discount adult fares, and adding a half-price special for
    accompanied children.  (Bookings must be made by May 31, with travel by
    Sept. 8).  (Sorry we missed that deadline, didn't we)
    That brought an Orlando to Boston adult round-trip ticket down from
    $338 to $278.  Other airlines quickly mathced the fares, and Midway
    Airlines upped the ante with reductions of 30 percent.
    
    "It looked like the tip of the iceberg," said Bob Ente, owner of
    Sunniland Travel in Orlando.  "The question is, will the rest of the
    airlines do what they have always done in the recent past, which is to
    reduce fares for the summer?
    
    Airline crystal-ball gazing is a hazy proposition, but many experts
    expect more air-fare discounts to be unveiled before mid-June.
    
    "You are going to see more of this type of thing" said USAir spokesman
    David Shipley of the recent cuts.
    
    But don't expect the low, low, fares of the spring - which included
    such doozies as a $138 round trip fare from Orlando to Chicago and a
    $318 round trip to London.
    
    Those rock-bottom specials "were designed to get people back in
    airplanes" in the wake of the Persian Gulf War, said Tim Smith, a
    spokesperson for American Airlines.  "They did a real good job of that. 
    A Lot of people already made summer vacation plans during that time."
    But since the April 8 cutoff for that round of saver fares, many wary
    travelers have chosen not to make travel bookings or have spend a
    greater amount of time looking for better deals, making cuts of some
    kind on domestic fares likely.
    
    "It has gotten kind of ridiculous," said Dawn Snow, a travel agent at
    Park Avenue Travel in Winter Park.  "I think the airlines are going to
    have to go ahead and reduce fares because at these rates, a lot of
    people are just turning down the idea of travelling."
    
    But there is more to finding a good air-fare value than waiting for the
    fares to drop.
    
    "If you are shrewd about shopping at the supermarket or buying clothes,
    you can do the same thing in the airline marketplace," said Chuck
    Foster, spokesman for Delta Airlines.  "By working within the
    restrictions on travel dates and so on , you can find a bargain."
    
     - Act fast on discount fares.  Some specials have scarely a two week
       window for purchase.  Keeping abreast of fares - or working with a
       travel agent who is squarely in your corner is essential.
    
       "Fares change on a day to day basis" said David Shipley of USAir. 
       "On a lot of specials the seats are limited, and the most popular 
        routes are sold out quickly.  Especially from Orlando, which is a
        popular destination for people all around the contry."
     
        Some travel agencies are using computer programs that automatically
        track fares and alert the agent if fares have dropped on an
        already-issued ticket.
    
     -  Plan ahead and book ahead.  When the last round of discounting
        ended on April 8, the airlines went to a 21 day advance purchase
        requirement for most of their lowest fares, as compared to the 7
        and 14 days of the past.
    
        "Anybody who is planning a summer vacation needs to get their
         plans going," said Ente.  "You need to get your destination set
         because of indeed these fares stay in effect and you don't start
         planning then you are going to get stuck with a higher fare."  If
         the ticket has been properly booked, it can be changed to the new
         lowest price and the difference refunded, Ente said.
    
         If you are planning an extended itinerary, advanced booking 
         restrictions vary depending on where the flights originate - for
         example, many Northeastern cities still have a 14-day advance
         fare.
    
     -   Watch for promotional incentives. Non priced-based enticements
         designed to boost travel during higher fares can mean a
         substantial savings.  In some cases, air fares drop due to
         competition  before the offers expire, and you could get bonus
         miles or free tickets in addition to the price savings.  NorthWest
         Airlines has been aggressive with incentives, offering free
         domestic round trips for either 20,000 frequent flier miles or
         any trans-Pacific trip during the qualifying periods.  Among
         other current incentives, USAir is doubling frequent flier miles
         to and from Washington DC and Baltimore and Pan Am is offering
         5,000 free miles in their Pan Am Holidays program.
    
      -  Consider an airline vacation package.  Good values are often
         available in strong domestic leisure markets, such as CAlifornia,
         Hawaii, Las Vegas, New York and the Caribbean.
    
         "I constantly am pricing things out and I have found that the
         prices on these packages can be much more economical than
         anything that I can put together myself," said Snow.
    
         For example, Delta Airlines Dream Vacation has a "Fun Spots" 
         package for California travel including free tickets to nine
         attractions such as Disneyland and Universal Studios CAlifornia.
         A 5 night trip with hotel and rental car starts at $599 per person  
         not bad when the cheapest airfare is $398.  The package lets you
         fly back from one of the 10 other cities in California, and is  
         good until end of 1991.  For details talk to a travel agent or
         call (800) 872-7786.
    
         Some post-war travel incentives still linger in the form of
         packages.  British Airways - which gave away 50,000 trans-Atlantic
         passages in a promotion earlier this year - has a quickie
         "London on the Town" three night package starting at $766 for
         round trip air fare and hotel stay, with extra nights available.
         The booking deadline is June 15, with travel completed by Oct 31
         Call British Airways at 800-247-9297.
    
    

        I just found out that airfares from Boston to Orlando have
        been reduced.   We were planing to drive down but I think we
        may fly now.

        I was able to book flights on United for:

        	$99 each way for adults
        	$49 each way for children (1 per adult).

        At $790 for my family of 5, this is pretty close to the cost
        of driving down, when you consider gas, tolls, lodging and
        meals, not to mention the wear & tear on the car (and people).

        These are non-refundable tickets, and they must be purchased
        prior to 7/12/91 and travel must be complete prior to 9/3/91.

        It seems that every time I plan to drive, we end up flying in
        the end.  Now it's time to start looking for a good car rental
        rate.

    I just booked round trip to Orlando from Boston for $218 for adults
    and $109 for children.  I could have had the $198 R/T adults and
    $98 for children, but you had to leave on a Mon-Tue-or Wed.  Its
    with United airlines and all they told me was that I had to pay
    for the tickets in 48 hours, which I'm going to do today at lunch.
    You may want to call to see if you buy them now can you use them
    in December.

    Just thought I'd let everyone know.  The airfare just came down.  I'm
    booking flights leaving on October 23rd and returning November 2nd, the
    price is $288.00 (on almost all airlines except for Delta).  If we had
    returned on the 1st, it would  have been $258.00.
    
    Just thought I'd pass it on.

    I just called American to see if the special fare lasts until we head
    down on January 24th.  No such luck - the fare ends December 21st.

    Several airlines (USAir, Northwest, Continental) have had ads in the papers
    for reduced fares from 9/4 through 12/15, purchase required by 10/31. 
    Fares are running $129 each way ($258 RT) for Boston to Orlando.
    
    If I didn't already have my tickets I'd change the date of the trip. It
    doesn't look like there will be any reduction whe I go 12/21 and return 
    on 12/28.

    December 21st.  If so maybe you could squeeze under the wire.  
    
    	After Christmas is the peak time for going to Florida so the
    airlines don't have to run specials at those times.  Their seats are

    I could only get a rebate if Northwest ran until the 21st. I already
    have tickets on Northwest non-stops on those dates -- non-refundable
    of course. I was half counting upon the lower fares being available 
    for at least the trip down. I paid around $340 each for round trip on
    weekends.

    For anyone planning to book on US Air, I have a 50% off companion
    ticket that is free for the asking. You must purchase your ticket
    before Sept 30th and complete your travel by Nov. 17th. You and your
    companion must book the same flight and include a Sat. night stayover.
    There are other restrictions but I believe you can use the ticket with
    the low fares that US Air is currently advertising. The first person to
    send me mail can have this coupon.

    I was pleased to find out that the special airline rates are good for
    Manchester, NH.  I was given a rate of $258 rt from Manchester to
    Orlando if you traveled from Sunday to Tuesday.  I booked my tickets
    for a Sunday to Sunday at $288.  Saturday to Sunday was $318.
    
    Considering parking is $1.00 per day and you can park feet (yes, units
    of 12") from the door, I was very happy not to have to fly out of
    Boston.
    
    The airline was United with a change of planes in Washington, DC.  They
    had three flights a day and not a single date I inquired about was
    booked for the special rate.  I am traveling the first week of
    November.
    

    I saw an advertisement in the paper for Filene's Basement Travel
    Service.
    They were offering a roundtrip ticket from Boston / Orlando / Boston
    for $199.00.
    It did not give details as to what dates it is effective or any
    restrictions.

    Local Supermarket (Stop & Shop) is running special of 20% off USAIR
    tickets from $125 - $399 and 25% off tickets $400 and over. The time
    limit is until the end of March except a few lock-out dates. This
    program calls for customers to spend $50 on groceries and then buy
    up to 6 coupons at $5/coupon, which you then turn in to a travel
    agency to get discount off of USAIR fares.
    This program brought my flight price from Hartford to Orlando from
    $320 to $256/family member.  The travel agency confirmed that if a 
    super saver is put into effect between now and when we depart on Dec
    11, then we can cancel and re-issue at lower rate. For a family of 4
    and if nothing changes, this saved us $256.
    May be worth looking into if you're still dealing with $300+ rates and
    getting nervous.

    There is some fine print around changing tickets to a lower fare that
    the airlines never seem to mention.  The way it works is if you
    book a flight at XX dollars and a lower fare becomes available before
    your departure date then you can get the lower only if there are seats on
    your flight that are being offered at the lower fare.  In other words, if 
    all the seats on your flight are sold out at the time the lower fare
    becomes available then you can't get the lower fare because there are
    no seats being offered on that flight at the lower fare.
    
    If you an find a flight that has seats available at the lower fare
    then, depening on the type of ticket you have, you might be able to change 
    to that flight and take advantage of the lower fare but it will cost you 
    $75 to do it (at least it will at American).

    Not sure on whether purchase of tickets must follow groceries. Stop
    and Shop only sells $5 coupons that you turn into travel agent so I'd
    suggest you call your favorite travel agent and see if they can reissue
    tickets or refund 20% in some manner as my agent said she has confirmed
    that she can reissue if supersaver comes up. BTW: I used Digital agency
    companion at American Express where we get company travel air tickets.
    

    I just spoke with Arlene at the MKC office and the latest and greatest
    cheapest fare Boston/Orlando/Boston is $362.50 roundtrip (nonrefundable
    ticket).  We had a brief conversation about how I was holding out for a
    cheaper fare.  Her response was - with the disappearance of Midway and
    Pan Am - she expects fares to increase over the next few months.
    Their opinion of why these airlines are going under is that they have
    been charging too little to try to increase their #'s and it backfired. 
    She feels most of the remaining carriers will be increasing the fares
    fairly soon.  (Just her opinion)
    I'm still going to wait until January and compare again.

    I spoke with Crimson Travel here in Nashua this morning.  They have a
    charter flight roundtrip Boston/Orlando/Boston for $229.00 per person.
    The catch is-  it is a 7 day fare - You must travel Saturday to Saturday.

    Sounds like you could save $393 by doing the Saturday to Saturday deal.
    That would mean extending your stay down there but an extra day at the
    the CBR will only amount to an extra $95. You'd be ahead by $298. Of
    course some of that will go towards your upgrades (5-day SuperPass to
    a 6-day SuperPass). It sounds like you're still ahead of the game.
    
    Sounds like you have a choice:
    
       Option A:  5 nights/6 days and airfare costs you $1080.
       Option B:  6 nights/7 days and airfare costs you $687.
    
    Hmmm the second option gives you more time down there at less
    cost....it wouldn't take me long to make my decision.

    All of the hotels in the packages were off site, but some were in
    suite hotels.

I just made tentative reservations for myself and my nephews.  Mind you,
only one of these flights is to Orlando:

Providence, RI to West Palm Beach; Orlando to Providence  $308 RT, including
all taxes.

Boston to West Palm Beach and Back, $278 rount trip, including all taxes.

This is for travel in January/February.   Non-changeable, non-refundable
tickets.  The reason the first set of flights is more expensive is because
the return trip is on a Monday.  I think I could have gotten the same $278 
by changing to a Tue.

	Thanks, for the info. We are traveling down in March to
	celebrate our 15th Anniversary. I've been watching the
	fares; and for late March, they are in the 350-380
	range, for flying out on a Thursday returning the 2nd
	Sunday after; per person/rt. There were some fares
	in the 325-350 range that required stopping in
	between... So I was waiting...

	Last Wed at lunch (12/11) I went down to the fleet
	Bank in Chelmsford (Drum Hill) Special only valid
	In Mass/Maine banks, and I am not sure if the special
	is still running. Anyhow; you had to open two accounts
	(checking, charge, home equity) out of three. It didn;t
	have to be joint. I chose checking (no min balance,
	no fees, earn interest, for the first year), and the
	charge (no fee for the first year). But a small amount
	of money in the checking account. And paid the $5. fee
	per certificate.

	The branch manager said it takes 6-8 weeks to get the
	certificate, unless you are planning on using them in
	January, and she would fax it and put a rush note on it.
	Well I said I needed the rush, (didn't want to wait 6-8
	weeks) :^)..

	Yesterday (12/16) 5 days after I opened the account, my 2
	certificates came! And Immediately called Northwest.. We have
	seats on a nonstop from Boston to Orlando on a Thurs.
	am, should arrive in Orlando almost exactly 15 years
	from the time we got married :^)... and we have a non-
	stop back home on the Sunday! No stopovers, no plane
	changes. about 3 hrs each way! 

	The tickets were $218 (half way between the weekday and
	weekend rate). Nice way to start the Anniversary off!
	I don't have to hope for reduced airfare, and I don't
	have to pay the outrageous price, hoping the fares
	on my flights will go down!

	(Just need to remember to cancel the accounts at Fleet
	 in Mass, before the end of the year, Dec 1992)

	Now all I need is a reduced room rate at the Yacht/Beach
	Club to upgrade our CBR reservations to! So I'll have
	to watch for Passholders Specials!

    Re .102 and the Crimson Travel charter flights:
    
    We're using one of these; cost per adult is $229, kids are $209.
    
    Crimson doesn't know the exact time of departure of the charter
    flights until about two weeks before departure.  We were told when
    we investigated this option that they were usually late morning so
    as to be most convenient for families traveling with young children.
    The cost and such seemed attractive so we went with Crimson.
    
    Well, turns out the departure time from Logan is 9:00 am, not too
    bad, but Crimson told us the carrier (US Air) wants us at Logan by
    7:00 am!  The folks at Crimson didn't know why, or what would happen
    if we arrived at, say, 8:00 am instead, so we're going to call US Air
    and ask them.  A somewhat minor pain in the rear, but given the amount
    we're saving probably pays for half our admissions, I can go to bed
    early Friday night for once.
    
    Dragging the kids out of bed at 5:30 am will be interesting; good
    thing we had nothing major planned for the travel day.

    Does anyone know of any reasonable plane fares in the May timeframe.
    Hopefully we will be heading for Port Orleans in May!!

advance purchase, nonrefundable, Saturday stayover required.

I was looking for my original note but can't find it.

I had booked flights with United sometime in November I think.

United just sent me a letter saying they've changed the flight details:

We now leave a little later going down - about 20 minutes no big deal.
It's the same flight non-stop.

However the return flight  leaves 50 minutes later and gets in nearly an
hour earlier. They've switched us from a direct flight to a non-stop.

Looks like we'll have time for a long liesurely Sunday Brunch before flying
back. 

    According to a report lastnight, United and Northwest are going to jack
    up fare 2%  at  the  end  of March.  The other airlines haven't said if
    they'll be following.  United stated  unless  the fares go up or travel
    traffic starts to increase they'll be some major layoff coming.
    
    Looks like the price wars  of  the  past  are  about  gone with all the
    bankruptcies of late.

    I've been meaning to post this for a while...
    
    If anyone is planning on flying to Orlando from a location served by
    TWA, you should call 'Travel Bargains' at 800-872-8385. This is an
    operation run by TWA that sometimes offers amazingly low fares for both
    domestic and international travel. As an example, I was recently able
    to buy a round trip from Atlanta to Colorado Springs for $200---the
    lowest fare I could find through traditional travel agents or the
    airlines was $298. 

    re .116  there's a vicious circle!  Airfares will continue to go up due
    to lack of passenger travel.  Passengers will not be able to afford to

    Well in the last week AAA sent me 2 new flight schedules for my trip in
    April.  I called this morning to see  what was going on since my return
    trip will now leave later on Sunday and have a 1  1/2 hr layover in NY,
    versus  leaving at 10:30 and arriving at Manchester around 3:00.  Seems
    USAIR is  reducing  their number of flights this spring due to the drop
    in passenger traffic.    The travel Agent at AAA said some of the other
    Airlines are also reducing some of their flights.
    
    
    
    

    Well, all of you that have been waiting for the better airfares
    don't get too excited by this morning's announcement of new lower
    fares on American Airlines, followed by similar fares and structures
    on USAir and Northwest. There are some new features, but the fares 
    aren't much better than what is being offered now.  
    
    There will continue to be non-refundable fares with purchases of either
    7 or 21 days before departure. A new feature will be that the tickets 
    will now be reusable. So if something comes up and a trip cannot be 
    taken at the reserved time, it can be rescheduled if
            
          a) The passenger meets early purchase and duration of 
             trip guidelines
          b) The passenger pays a $25 fee for reprocessing.
    
    However, I just got off the phone with American Airlines. The fares 
    from Boston to Orlando in July travelling on weekends would be as 
    follows:
    
          a) 7 DAY ADVANCE PURCHASE  $384.50
          b) 21 DAY ADVANCE PURCHASE  $324.50
    
    I wonder if they will give the story that they would have been higher 
    if not for the new fare structures?

    My family is going to Disney World in May and we got an excellent deal
    through American Express at Parker Street (DTN: 223-5353).  They handle
    the non-business travel for DEC employees and (I believe) customer
    travel to the training center.  Ask for Ruth; she has been very helpful
    in finding this for us.  We are going through a "package deal" from
    FunWay Holidays FunJet.  We are paying $350 per adult and $250 per
    child.  We will be flying on a SCHEDULED USAir flight both ways.  (No
    charter flights for me!) It also includes a compact car from Budget for
    8 days.  The rates would have been $20 cheaper had we travelled on a
    weekday rather than on the weekends.  It also would have been $20
    cheaper per adult had we chosen to get a car from American
    International instead of Budget.  FunJet also uses United but this
    was more expensive (United had raised its prices a few weeks earlier).
    This company also seems to have good deals that include hotels. 
    

    Well looks like I'll have to agree the new  fares  aren't all that hot.
    When  looking  into fares last fall, I could have recieved $324 or real
    close to  that if I was willing to fly mid-week.  I wasn't so I got the
    $380 fare for  weekend travel.  If I had been willing to take a charter
    and fly Sat-Sat I  could of had a fare for around $299, but since I was
    staying 'till the next Sunday (one Stinking day longer) no dice ;^(.

    The only good thing about  the  nee fares (if you want to call it that)
    is that for $25 you can  change  the  date,  but  you still can't get a
    refund.

    We were planning on driving to WDW this year because of the high air
    fares. Two weeks ago Braniff advertised $119 one way fare with round
    trip purchase from Boston to Tampa. I called the travel agency that we
    use to try and book us some seats. They could only get busy signals
    for two days. I was ready to stick to our original plans since they
    couldn't get through. They thought I had said $119 round trip and when
    I said it was oneway they said Delta had just come out with some new
    package fares around the same price.
    
    They went off checking on some new tour fares. What I ended up with
    was a tour fare on United for my wife, myself and 10 year old son for
    Saturday to Saturday including intermediate rental car with unlimited
    mileage for $869. Mid week would have been $794.50. Since we already
    had reservations for a trailer in FW Saturday to Saturday the extra
    $75 was easier and my son wouldn't miss any school. This saves me three
    vacation days and the driving. 
    
    I was surprised that we could get a tour price with hotel/motel
    included. We have done both Crimson and Paragon packages in the past
    and put together our own. We have evolved, like so many others, to
    staying on the grounds at WDW. This will be our first time staying in
    the FW trailers, something we wanted to do. We tend to make last minute
    travel arrangement(under 30 days) and could not get in CBR. We could
    get into Dixie Landings @$99 and FW had a special on the trailers for
    $135 so we went for the trailers this time, especially since we were
    planning on driving down with $400 airfares. We liked the idea of
    having a complete unit with kitchen for quick breakfasts when we want
    and more room to relax in.
    
    The period of trip is April 25th to May 2nd. Each time we go we spend
    a little more but seem to enjoy it more as well. Looking forward to
    another visit to the mouse in less than two weeks.

    Well I  had my tickets exchanged yesterday to reflect my latest flights
    to/from Orlando, and  due  to  USAIR's  removing of flights this spring
    they are now booked  for  the  days  in  question hence no reduction in
    fares (Thanks a lot USAIR).
    
    Talking with the AAA agent, the new  fare's  aren't  all that great for
    the leisure market (see earlier replies on the  new  rates,  I could of
    had these if I flew on certain days), they  are  really  geared  to the
    business traveler.  She even mentioned that some fares actually went up
    in rates for consumers.
    
    Well looks like this is the last time I'll fly down,  from  here  on in
    I'll  be  joining the Driving set (you heard it here first Mike_S)  and
    most like be going down either in June (right after school lets out) or
    late August.

    This is close to my original estimate last Auguts of $299 per person,

    About ten days after American Airlines announced there new simplified
    Airfares that include discounts, all the airlines are getting into
    the act.
    
    Now is a great time to look for deals. I just got a quote of $287. 
    Round-trip (leasure fare) on Northwest.
    
    My only caution is to be "wary" of Airlines that are on the "brink" now.
    These latest fare wars may well be the "demise" of the weaker
    carriers.  
    
    A great price, but no plane when you show up -- 
    		that ain't a good Deal...
    
    Can't wait to see the mouse again...

    Well after  opening  to  page 9 of todays Union Leader during break and
    almost having a  heart attack after seeing USair is offering Manchester
    NH to Orlando for  129  one way based on a roound trip, I decided to do
    some calling.
    
    My travel agent ended up giving me nothing but the run around as to why
    I can't get the refund.  Oh you  need  to be calling at least 14days in
    advance, plus ther needs to be seats available etc.
    
    So I called USair and got ahold of one of thier reservationist and it's
    
        'Oh no problem Mr.  Berube, you now have  a rate of $260r/t p/p (vs
    $380) how would you like me to process your $360 refund?'
  
    I asked her what about the 14 day req, Oh  with  all the changes in the
    past few days, we are forgoing that right now when dealing with refunds
    as  long    as   you  originaly  purchase  the  tickets  meeting  those
    requirements. She check and the flight still has seats available.
      
    Suffice it to say, with the air  wars  now  going on, forget the travel
    agent deal directly  with the Airlines and you'll most likely make out.
    Think I'll be sending  a rather tactful letter to my travel agent after
    I return, to busy now  trying  to  figure  out  how I'll be spending my
    refund ;^)

I called US Air today and requested the new fares.  After a very long wait 
the reservationist came back and said that since it is not 14 days before the 
flight I did't qualify for the new fare.  I said that I know someone that did
get this just yesterday.  Sorry sir but the resrictions were changed last night
and the tickets would have to of been reissued yesterday to receive this.  We 
are not offering this today.

Maybe I should try again today and see what happens.

Somehow I feel like the cartoon "The Born Loser".

Oh well 2 more Days.

I called again and now I get a 21.50 refund on each ticket.  From 382.50 to
361.00.  Better then nothing.

    no matter how I argued with the dweeb behind the counter I couldn't get
    the fare I was quoted  by  the  Syracuse  NY  reservationist.   I'll be
    sending a note off to USAir  Customer  Service and see if I can get the
    $260 rate or not after the fact.    Even if I don't at least I was able
    to reduce the fare somewhat.

When I arrivied at the ariport I actually got a rate of 356.00 which was 26.50
less for each ticket.  Seems each time you talk with someone the fare is 
different.  Good luck on your after the fact refund.

  Just got off the phone with Northwest Airlines (1-800-225-2525).  They
  are offering a special on flights to Orlando.  One adult can fly free 
  for each child's ticket purchased.  Just reserved flights for August 
  for two adults and two children for total of $658.00.  Tickets are
  non-refundable with a $25 fee per ticket for any changes.

  Also saw in the paper (Boston Globe) that America West was offering a special 
  to Orlando.  Adult flies for $258.00 roundtrip and only $200.00 roundtrip for 
  accompanying child.  The tickets had to be purchased by June 3rd with travel 
  completed by September 10.  The ad did not indicate what originating cities 
  this offer applied to or what other restrictions applied.

        It seems that today was an interesting day for the airlines. 
        The price wars are here!!

        It started out with Northwest offering an "adults fly free
        with the purchase of a kid's ticket" deal.  Then, someone
        countered by offering all tickets for half price.  After
        calling around, I decided to confirm five flights out of
        Hartford.  The fare on United is $160 round trip for a
        non-stop flight (complete with McDonald's happy meals for the
        kids).

        Just this past weekend I had decided to trade in some FF miles
        toward our tickets.  At these new prices, I'm keeping the FF
        points for another trip.

        Of course, as always, the seats available for these fares are
        limited, so make your reservations early before you get locked
        out.

        BTW, I am also saving $125 on a flight my wife booked to
        Michigan.  She just bought her tickets this past weekend for
        $250, and that fare is now 1/2 price.  I called and they
        offered me a refund!
    

    Just cancelled my plans and rebooked on American, $151 round trip!!
    
    According to American Express travel all the airlines cut the prices in

    Well here's the update, I received a letter from USAIR over the weekend
    with 3 non-transferabel $50 travel vouchers  for  use  on future travel
    good 'till next June.

    The letter went on to say that  when  I  had checked on the 22nd it was
    indeed a $260r/t fare but due to limited availability, that by the 25th
    it  was  $310r/t,  and how it wasn't their policy to give cash  refunds
    after the fact hence the travel voucher.
    
    Guess  I  should of skooted over to Manchester Airport that  night  and
    request my  refund  as  I  might  of  recieved the $260 fare (since the
    tickets were home, by the time I got  out of work, got the tickets, AAA
    travel in Bedford would of been closed).  
    
    Now in order to get the $150 I have to go on a trip, in which I have no
    intention to fly in next couple of years.  Hmm maybe I should change my
    mind on that 2 week camping trip next summer  to  a  fly/drive vacation
    (yeah  only if the Airlines repeat last month air fare  frenzy  will  I
    rethink that option).

Don't go Patriot's day week if you want cheap air fares. Patriot's day is the 
MA holiday that MA schools close. I spoke to the AAA travel agent today who 
said that the charter round trip for that week is $499. That's more than I paid 
for scheduled airline tickets last year. I'm going to let the train take the 
strain :-).

    Today's Boston Globe has an ad from Northwest. RT from Boston is $228
    plus tax. Ticket must be purchased by this Wednesday, March 3, for 
    travel between April 20 and June 30. Flights can be changed for a $50
    charge per ticket.

    Continential just quoted me $201 RT from Boston so $162 seems good.
    The tickets with CO are non-refundable but for $35 you can change
    the dates or flights for 1 year. (this is for Oct to Orlando)
    
    These are jet flights but connect in Newark which is fine because 
    we are picking up another traveler there from Phila.

    To all those interested.... Thomas Cook has an agreement with
    Continental (and I think USAir, but not sure of the second one)...
    where they get a quoted price and take off up to 40%... so that $201
    fare may actually be able to be gotten for $120.60, if the max discount
    can be applied!  Call Thomas Cook and see what they can do for you...
    this applies to all tickets purchased for a family of a Digital
    employee, as long as the employee is traveling with them.  I have them
    looking into fares for me for November.

    I just booked my flights... if I had planned on coming back on or
    before November 19th I could have gotten in on the 2 for 1 deal, but I
    will not be back until the 21th... 

    They got 4 RT adult tickets from BOS to ORL, total (taxes, tariffs and
    all) for $760.80.  Depart 11/12 return 11/21.  Plus a car compact car,
    1 week unlimited miles, $95.  Plus, again, we have to have one night in
    a hotel, so we are going to the Comfort Inn, 2 full beds plus a
    roll-away (I'm sure my 20 year old son and almost 18 year old daughter
    will appreciate the roll-away.... ;^}  ) for $51.06 total after taxes.

We got that fare just last week (on Continental) for traveling this December
(Boston-Orlando, leaving Dec. 23 and returing Dec. 31).  Beware, though: We
have to go via CLEVELAND... :-)  Your mileage may (literally :-) ) vary.

    I am new to this note file and just saw this reply, I am referring to
    142.162 about when to make April trip arrangements.
    
    One caution if leaving from New England area and week of April is
    the Mass school vacation week starting Sunday April 17 I believe and
    lining up with patriots day in Mass.  A lot of people go down
    from Mass. then, I've booked super savers in Nov for April vacation
    week and had to settle for less than best flight or down right
    lousy flights. If any other week then problaby fine, it is not that
    there are a lot of people going down to Orlando but a lot of people 
    will be going south that week from Boston.
    
    The only other note I have is, do not go to Orlando the week before
    or after Easter (I do not know when Easter is this year). I've
    done it twice before and the crowds at WDW, Universal, etc. are just
    awful !!!!!  Makes the whole trip rotten !! I like WDW, Universal etc.
    but when the average line for a decent ride become 1 to 1 1/2 hour
    well the fun is just gone then. The guide to disney says it is crowded
    then and they are right, the extended hours do not in anyway make up
    for the long......... lines.

    Great Circle Travel, Merrimack 429-0240 or 800-427-0242 has a fare of $178
    + tax (RT) non-stop to Orlando from Boston, Departures are on Tues and
    Fridays with no minimum stay.  The airline is American Trans Air, this
    fare is non-refundable and the fare is goood thru 5-2-94.

    I just booked a flight with the Great Circle Travel place mentioned
    -1.
    
    	They fly to Orlando Wednesdays and Fridays at 3:10pm, I think
    	they said departure from Orlando was at 7:45pm,(we are leaving from
    	Ft. Lauderdale because we are going to visit relatives for a week

    Thomas Cooke has a charter flight to Orlando that was quoted to me
    today at $875 (RT air and car) for two adults, two kids (under 12). 
    Just what I needed.  Airfare alone was about $822.  For 4 adults add
    about $80-100 more.

I just bought tickets from TWA for a trip this June.

The fare is RT Boston/Orlando at 173.00 (plus airport charges = $183.50).

You have to stop in Atlanta each way.

I was at the Greendale mall in Worcester yesterday.

One of the jewelry stores had a sign out that said:

Buy $395.00 of jewelry and receive 2 airline tickets to Florida (and other
places). (or something to that effect) 

I did not get the details or the name of the store.

Sounds like you could buy a diamond ring and get the 
airfare for free.

   You need to select dates and they tell you if they are suitable.
   Reject their dates twice and you are out.

   You need to stay in the accomodation they offer.

   You need to take out travel insurance with them.

Read all documentation very carefully. Watch for clever wording. Read at least
4 times and get someone not involved to read to make sure you have not misread
or misunderstood.
 
In our case if we had rejected the 1st date offered we would have lost 
the Holiday.

We didn't,  we just had to prove we had it.

Be flexible,  we had to work hard at it but got there in the end.

USAIR has fares now for $186.00 RT Bos to Orl.

We booked ours for July.
