| Yeah, they made some .Baldwin motion made most of the 427 chevelles'.
I thought that they were ALL of the 68 and 9 vintage however.I'll look
up the information and give you some specifics later.

So perhaps the '67 would be more rare? The guy that has it says he's
got the paperwork to prove it! Would appreciate any info you can dig
up for me, Val. Think it could go for $25K? Is Yenko still around so
I can get more information directly?

111.3 | 67 Yenko? | BRAT::FLEURY_W | | Mon Jun 14 1993 14:28 | 9 |
| In reply to .0 and .1 I beleive .1 is correct from what I remember
seeing. I remember seeing 68 and 69 style Yenko Chevelles but I have
never seen one with the old body style that the 67 had. I do not know
much about Chevrolets so I am not sure if they never made any in 67 or
not but I have never seen one and I din't think they made a 67 Yenko.
Just what I have seen though so I don't know if I am correct or not
maybe a GM Guru out there could help us out.

Hammer,
If I'm not mistaken, Yenko turned their magic on 68-9 Chevelles only.
I've yet to hear of a `67, never mind one with the 435 horse 427. Most
Yenkos, if not all, were equipped with the L-72 427 rated at 425 hp.
Perhaps I can consult my Chevy guru for a definitive answer.

I'd appreciate the help, guys. Everybody I talk to says, "I'm not sure
but...". Is the Yenko dealership still around? I believe that I once
saw an article about a '67 Nova Yenko! If I'm remembering that one
correctly, then Yenko was doing some magic in '67.
Are there 425hp AND 435hp 427's? I'm not up on this.

HAMMER,
Yes there are 425 and 435 HP 427's. The L-72 is the aluminum head
square port 427, and the 435 horse is a tripower equipped motor
installed in '67-`69 Corvettes. It's code is (I think) L-89. There
was also a hydraulic cammed L-89 factory rated at 400 Horsepower.
Garden variety oval port 4V 427's were rated at 385-390 Horsepower.
Note certain about the codes. You should do careful homework on this,
as GM musclecars are easily faked -- nothing short of original Yenko
documentation will prove it's authenticity. The build sheet probably
won't help either -- as I believe most Yenkos began life as L-78
396's (square port -- 375 HP)
Isn't there a Yenko registry somewhere? Why don't you call Musclecar
Review Magazine and ask if they have an address.
About Yenko Chevrolet -- Don Yenko died several years ago in a small
plane crash. I don't know if the dealership still exists, though it
used to be located in Canonsburg PA.

111.7 | Be very careful... | ESKIMO::MANUELE | | Tue Jun 15 1993 15:13 | 14 |
| I did some checking on the Yenko's last night. From what I have been
able to find Yenko modified Camaro's and Corvairs in 67, Camaro's only
in 68 and Camaro's, Chevelles and Nova's in 69. This is from several
issues of Car Review and Musclecar Review. The 67 Camaro's were
originally 350 cars, and had no Yenko appearance changes except the
addition of 427 emblems and Pontiac Rally II rims. Untill 69, all the
Yenko's were engine swaps, in 69 Yenko got GM to send him COPO
Camaros with the 427 facrory installed. I think the Chevelles and
Nova's were still engine swaps though.
I found no listing of a 68 or 67 Yenko Chevelle, so be careful. Your
best bet is to try and find a Yenko club and ask some experts there.

| I did some digging last night.I could not come up with anything
concrete on a 67 Yenko. However you say that it is documented.Make
d@nm sure that the paper work is authentic and not a fake.
Also if it were a Yenko it would have cone through as an SS chevelle.
Then the 396 would come out and in with a 427.Check out and see if the
car is a real SS.For 5,000 even if it is an SS that is still a fair
asking price

Without a build sheet there will be no way to prove whether
the car was originally an SS, or a big block for that matter.
It's looking like this guy might be trying to hammer Hammer....

111.10 | And I thought Fords were confusing. | ESKIMO::MANUELE | | Tue Jun 15 1993 17:47 | 9 |
| Re-2
According to my sources the Yenko Chevelles in 69 were NOT based on
SS's. They were special ordered at the factory as big-block hardtops.
If this applys to the supposed 67, then there is no telling what it
could be. Also, the COPO 427 Camaro's were not SS's either. The 67
Camaros were originaly SS 350 cars and the 68's were SS 396 cars.
This is getting more confusing as we go.

I spoke with a guy at Year One who said Yenko made nothing prior to
'69. He said, if they did, it was without the YENKO Stipe Kit on it.
His opinion was that the car ~could~ be one made by Yenko but without
the stripe kit it would be worth much less (because it would look
like any other '67 Chevelle). He said you ~could~ sell it for a profit
if you found just the right oddball collector, like those who collect
six-cylinder Challengers.
Sounds like this guy is a tad out to lunch, though, because we know
Yenko did make stuff prior to '69. Also, he said the car would be
worth $3 to $7 grand. Heck, if that IS a '67 Tri-Powered 'Vette
engine in it, the engine alone is worth that much!
I'll talk to the guy "who knows the guy" who's selling it and try to
get some more info on the car. Yup, sure is confusing.

RE: .6
Tom, I phoned information in Canonsburg, PA. They had no listing
of a Yenko Chevy dealership. They did, however, have a listing for
a Yenko HONDA dealership in another town in the same area code. Perhaps
one of the sons? I've been a little hesitant on phoning there (for fear
of sounding pretty darn stupid).

| Hammer,
Yenko Honda is what exists now, no more Yenko Chevy dealership. What
you really shoudl do is call Musclecar Review Magazine in Lakeland
FL. I think they're doing an article on a guy who has the largest
collection of Yenko's in the country in next month's issue. If not
they'll know who to contact.

111.15 | Its a mystery Chevelle. | ESKIMO::MANUELE | | Wed Jun 16 1993 15:06 | 13 |
| I did more checking on the Yenko mystery. So far I found Corvairs from
67-69, Camaro's from 67-69, but the only ones with the striping were
69's, 69 BB Novas, and 69 Malibu's, not Chevelles. Yenko had Chevy put
427's in 69 Malibu's, and put SS hoods on them. They were not SS's.
FWIW, Yenko also made Vega Stingers in the early 70's, but they were
cosmetic only. They had stripes, front and rear spoilers and Yenko
emblems. No engine mods. Also, some Yenko Camaro's were produced in 80
or 81, with stripes and a Turbo taken from the Pontiac 301. Again, no
mention of a 67 Chevelle, but its possible that someone bought a
Chevelle at Yenko's dealership in 67 and still has the bill of sale, so
he's calling it a Yenko Chevelle.

Well, we've all learned a LITTLE bit about Yenko's here, haven't we?
There's still a LOT that we don't know so I hope if anybody can look
anything up, you'll put it in this topic. BUT, I phoned my buddy
who know's the guy that owns this car. Turns out it is a "Baldwin
Motion" car, not a Yenko. My buddy knew that but told me the wrong
maker. I know absolutely NOTHING about these cars, so how about we
start a NEW topic for these cars? If you have any input on them,
please move on to topic #113...

You know, there's still a lot of unanswered questions here. One guy
that I was talking to remembers the Car Craft or Hot Rod article years
back that had a buttercup yellow '67 Nova SS YENKO! Nobody here has
mentioned the '67 Nova's. I'll try to phone Musclecar Review Magazine
later (813-646-5743). I wonder who the leading Yenko expert is?

restoration man is a supposed expert on YENKO cars. A call to him
would probably answer any questions with some truth ..........
