60.1 | Help with Body Work | SA1794::KITTJ | SMOKIN' JOE __________ DTN 243-2634 | Thu May 09 1991 07:48 | 13 |
| Can anyone refer me to a body shop that will finish a car after it has
been primed?I had my 70 Charger in the body shop for 3 months last
year only to have it come out unfinished.What the guy did was FABUlous!
But he diddn't finnish the job.The shop he was working for went out of
buisness and I never got his last name.The only things left to do is
strip and prime the front pan,cut rear marker light holes in the new
rear quarters,cut reverse light holes in back pan,sand and paint.
I already spent a fortune getting it this far,so I'd like to stay
in the "reasonable" range.I will accept work from a private party,
but please,NO HACKERS!Any takers/Advise?
Thanks,
Joe
P.S. car is located in Palmer,Ma.

| IN case people are leary to take a job that is covered up by primer,
I forgot to mention I have a full picture documentation of the whole
process.

That will help, but in general a really good paint man won't
touch something they haven't done themselves. When the paint
starts chipping after 6 months it's nice to know who
is responsible. Be careful of anyone who doesn't seem concerned
with the fact that they didn't do the whole job.

60.4 | Fresh paint hints | DEMING::HAWKE | | Thu Oct 10 1991 11:06 | 10 |
| Well todays the day...I'm bringing my '70 Torino to the body shop
for a massage and squirt. When I bought it it was covered with
velva seal, all the trim removed, and the trunk,engine compartment,
and door jambs painted. When I get it back home is there anything
I should do to help the fresh paint over the winter? ie cover it,
dont cover it, wash with soap, don't wash with soap. Any hints or
suggestions will be appreciated. I will have the car stored in
my unheated garage over the winter.
thanks Dean

| Dean,
When had my 71 Monte Carlo painted (base/clear Delton DBU) a couple
years ago I ended having to put it in storage within a month of getting
it back from the paint shop. All I did was wipe the car down with a
damp cloth and put my car cover on. I wasn't too concerned about
scratching the finish since I had to wet sand the clear anyhow. I did
that in the spring. There were no ill effects. Looking back the only
thing I'd do differently is wet sand the clear before storage since
Deltron DBU gets very hard (although not as hard as IMROM) after a
couple months making sanding with 2000 grit VERY time consuming.

60.6 | Rolling a fender lip? | TINCUP::MFORBES | It's NOT your father's Chevy Vega | Tue Feb 18 1992 15:40 | 7 |
| I had new tires and wheels put on the Vega yesterday and now I need
to clearance the rear wheelwells. Is it better to roll the fender
lip in or cut it off? Can it be sucessfully rolled without damaging
the outer body?
Thanks,
Mark

I would try to roll it first. On the 428 Mustangs they would roll the
lips up on the rear fenders to accomadate the larger tires. Of course
this depends on how much extra space you need. You might have to cut. /

| Thanks AJ.
I ended up rolling it using a crescent wrench and a hammer. I worked carefully
and slowly. It acam out fine with no damage to the body.

60.15 | Never enough | DEMING::HAWKE | | Thu Aug 19 1993 07:04 | 5 |
| It should say on the DA or the paperwork with the DA what the air
requirements are to run it. FYI I had a 2hp 12 gallon that wasn't
enough. I picked up a 5hp 60 gallon upright at HQ and its plenty :-)

| I just had my 67 camaro painted last year. I heard lots of good things
about PRIDE auto body on South Street. I ended up not using them because
my brother has a body shop in Hudson, MA. But, If I hadn't used him,
I would have gone to PRIDE. If you don't mind traveling to Hudson, MA
you could try Jay's Auto Body on Apsley St. He's been in business
for the past 14 or so years. I think the name of the guy at PRIDE was
John, not sure. He was a young guy who came and took a look at our car
and gave us an estimate. Seemed very knowledgable.
Good luck.
