So, Chet Atkins isn't going to be your guitarist anymore. Hmmm...
What do you do now? This was the problem faced by the folks at "A
Prairie Home Companion". Shoes don't get any tougher to fill.
Well, how about someone who's not just a amazing guitarist, but
who sings and writes, and, oh yeah, can he be really funny, too?
Hey - how about Pat Donohue? Former National Fingerstyle Guitar
Champion; wonderful singer, Winfield regular, and a knockout
entertainer.
This is not just about incredible guitar playing, this is about
fun. This is a guy whose motto, he declares, is "You can fool
some of the people all the time, and that's our target market."
This is a guy whose parodies cause people to pull off the road so
they don't lose the radio signal, like when he takes the Latin 50s
hit "The Carioca" and turns it into "The Karaoke". This is a guy
who never plays the same style twice, from Delta blues to folk
songs to Duke Ellington to killer parodies to a rollercoaster of
Beatles tunes, and just when you think he's out of tricks, he'll
do his own beautiful, warm version of "The Star Spangled Banner".
He's played just about every acoustic stage in the country, from
Telluride to Newport to Winfield, and is featured regularly on "A
Prairie Home Companion". His latest album, "Big Blind Bluesy", a
tribute to the great old bluesmen, has been heralded by Jump
Street as "simply brilliant", and The Los Angeles Times calls his
playing "about as much harmonious sound as can be produced by two
hands, wood and strings."
Pat was first on our stage in 1995, and received the most
immediate, most unequivocal standing ovation in our history; come
see why.

Great Strides wak for Cystic Fibrosis:
As many of you know, my daughter, Shannon, has Cystic Fibrosis. She is now
16, and the average life expectancy for CF today is 30 years old. When she
was diagnosed with CF, the life expectancy was in the teens, so in some ways
we feel very fortunate, but we need to find a cure for this terrible disease
that ravages young children's lungs and lives. Fund raisers like this are
what make the aggressive research possible needed to find the cure for CF.
May 17th is the Great Strides walk for CF, and once again, my daughter and
I will be walking to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. If you
are interested in walking, please let me know and I will get you the materials
needed, and you can be part of the Digital Great Strides team. The walk is
a 10K in the downtown area. There are snacks and drinks provided by donors
including Subway, so if you can join us, please let me know.
If you would prefer to make a donation, please stop by and either
make a pledge to donate by May 17th, or just drop off a check made out to
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I can be found at cube 2/D14 in CX03 (near
the windows). I am usually onsite on Thursdays, or you can lock a check in
my desk drawer if I am not in. Of course you can also just give me a call
and I will stop by your desk.
If you have any questions or need more information about Cystic Fibrosis or
the Great Strides walk, please don't hesitate to give me a call.
Thanks -

& GET YOUR AUTOGRAPHED COPY OF "SAFE, not Sorry"
Dear Colorado NRA Member:
On Saturday, May 10, I will be in the Denver area to meet and
speak with members like yourself and to sign copies of my new
book on self-protection -- SAFE, not Sorry. As the Executive
Director of NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, my primary
responsibility is to protect the Second Amendment and the
inalienable right to self-defense. As the creator of NRA's
Refuse To Be A Victim program, I have written SAFE, not Sorry to
be a comprehensive, easy-to-follow guide on how to make your
right to self-defense work for you.
I will be signing copies of SAFE, not Sorry at the Borders Books
bookstore at 9515 County Line Road, Englewood starting at 3:00pm
on Saturday, May 10, 1997. Please call Borders Books at
(303)708-1735 for directions. For information on my other SAFE,
not Sorry book tour locations, please call 1-800-392-8683. I
hope to see you there!
