| JoJ, ya been listening to WFAN? That was a hot topic for a while.
The fans mostly want someone on defense, and they are worried that
the Jests will pick someone like that monster OT from Washington.
I heard Coslett yesterday afternoon on WFAN, talking with Mike and the
Mad Dog about the upcoming Miami-Buffalo game. They asked him who
he was gonna take #3 and he avoided the question (what else could he
do).
They gotta go wif defense......and it should be an impact player!

C'mon, Carlos, according to Uncle Al this NFL free agency system will
lead to the ruination of western civilization. You wouldn't expect the
owner of the impoverished Oakland/Los Angeles/Irwindale/Rancho Cucamonga

trying to scrape together the Coliseum rent money, would you (I

Mrs. JoJ
------------------------------------------------------------------
To Slasher, Childs, Riggen, Walt, and the R.O.N. Jets fans...
Picking up Boomer was a great move. He's an excellent QB and excels
under Coslet's offensive scheme. Reggie White had nothing to do with
the acquisition. The Jets were negotiating with Boomer since January,
and when the Bucs let Testaverde go, the Jets sweetened the offer since
they thought Boomer might go to Sam Wyche if they didn't move fast.
If they get Reggie White, they will have a truly awesome defensive
line. Plus they still get a high draft pick and are likely to pick a
defensive impact player.
I've always liked Esiason. Not as much as Kenny of course, but
B-B-B-Boomer and the Jets kind of reminds me of a song.....
I still think they need a real running back. Thomas is a stiff, Baxter
is solid but they need a breakaway runner to be in there with him.
The receivers are still world class. They'll miss Toon, but they still
have three of the better receivers in the league.
FWIW, I expect that they'll make the playoffs this year, and
considering the rest of the AFC stinks, they could get to the Bowl.
If they get that far, they'll win it.

---------------------------------------------------------------
The Jets made a very slick move trading down with Phoenix. JJ is a pro
bowl RB and will work out very well with the new Boomer offense. They
were able to pick up JJ and still get the linebacker they wanted.
The Jets will absolutely contend for the division title this season.
The Bills are still the team to beat, but they are vulnerable. Miami is
the only other obstacle and the Jets seem to have no trouble with them.
See ya in the Super Bowl,
Joe Wille

| Is this the real jets note, or a replica ???? I think the jets made
some great moves, Johnny Johnson is a great player, he held out and
the coach made him pay for that, and from that point neither of them
were happy with the other, I think all he needed was a change of
atmosphere, and the jets will give him that. The jets lost nothing
by dropping a slot with phoenix, they got the player they wanted and
picked up a much needed running back, excellant move. Now phoenix
didnt real lose here either, they got rid of an unhappy player and
his salary and replaced him with the player they watned, Id say they
lost out but accomplished what they wanted, now could they have got
Hurst anyway ??? Dont know, but if they could have got him with the #4
they would have been able to trade away Johnny Johnson for some picks
and got a little more for there money. I dont know why teams dont just
wait and see what happens, if they jets had picked Hurst with the #3,
then attempt to trade JJ and the #4 pick to the jets for Hurst ??? Do
teams not wait for this for a reason ?????
Oh well great move by the jets, good move by phoenix, could have been
better. The jets are trying to make a move this year, I hope it pays
off for them , I dont want to see Buffalo and Miami on top again this
year, Id rather see NY and Indy battling for the top...

It's money Mac.
If a network thought that they would possibly get .000001 rating point higher
by having Dennis Byrd doing the announcing then they'd offer him a job...
Luckily Byrd is pretty well spoken for a football player and he might actually
do well at this job.
Is Ditka announcing or doing a halftime show for some network? Why do you think
Magic Johnson (even though he's basically unintelligible) was announcing the
NBA playoffs?

Byrd is deserving of whatever has been handed to him. As is the case
with any ex-Jet. Heck, he had the honor of wearing the Green and White

re: Big Joke...er, Game
The Donks were lucky. Boomer is awesome. As soon as he realized he had
Rob Moore to throw to, he put some big points up.
We saw Boomer do two things we haven't seen since Al Woodall...he threw
a ball out of bounds when no one was open to avoid the sack or
interception....then, yesterday, he was "in the grasp" and threw a
perfect pass to that ever livin stud muffin Brad Baxter for a big gain
and turned nothing into something.
And...the Jets as a whole didn't get too conservative with the lead
yesterday for the first time since Weeb Ewbank. They actually threw a
pass for a TD to increase the lead...!!!!
I figure by now you all must be as excited about the Jets as ol' JoJ
is. Especially FrankWa who misses Ray Handy_Man and Walt who has an
official Freeman McNeil jersey with the wrong colors.
Next patsy for the Jets (pun intended) is New England on Sunday night
football...two weeks, be there! Too bad Slasher cain't make the game
in the Gaaaden State. He has to go watch two grown men in their
underware hug each other in the middle of an auditorium or somethin...
So, tune in in two weeks to Sunday night football as the R.O.N.'s NY
Jets crush Drew Bleed_so and the Pats. Watch as Bill Parcells "has
another donut" and loses it over his most excellent loss to be.

| Yes Denver beat the Jets in week 1 by a whopping 6pts, what a huge
victory. This is a team with many new faces, they went out and grabed
some good players, Im actually disapointed in Johnny Johnson
performance I thought he'd be playing alot better. They got a new TE,
they lost a top WR (Toon) and In come Boomer, they needed a few extra
games to get it together. The Philly game(lost by 5) and the Raiders
game (lost by 4) were both comebacks by the other teams, the Jets D
let them down. But with there upcoming schedule they have a great
shot at hitting the 10Win mark, its funny to think that you might need
10wins to make the playoffs this year in the AFC ???? The AFC has 7
teams with better then .500 marks and 3 at .500 so one team with +.500
record wouldnt be in the playoffs in the afc, yet the NFC would have
3 4-4 teams fighting for a spot... ???
With Cleveland in disaray, and Montana unstability the jets still have
a shot... Cleveland dropping out of the picture will open it up for

69.129 | Jets make another move towards the Playoffs.. | MR1PST::CBULLS::MBROOKS | | Mon Nov 15 1993 15:27 | 17 |
| Well the Jets have moved in playoff contention earlier then I thought.
Lets say Buffalo/Pittsburg/KC take the division's. Miami owns first
WC and then NYJ, CLEV, HOU, DEN and Rai are all at 5-4 so head to head
would mean nothing in a 3 or more tie breaker situation.
Houston Plays Cleveland so one of them will drop to 5-5. SD VS Rai
could go either way so the Raiders could drop to 5-5, plus Pitt plays
Denver. So after next week its very possible the Jets could own a
WC spot (of course they NEED to win the easy games Cinncy, NE, Indy)
and theyll be at 8-4 (and then Wash) so 9-4 and the above teams have
a few games VS Each other that someone has to lose.
This isnt even taking into effect that after this week Miami has to
play Dallas, NYG, Pittsburg and Buffalo so Miami is not a lock yet
either.... (Jets in the Playoffs, I hope they take out Buffalo).

| Oh ya 3 straight losses. They have Dallas, Buffalo and Houston.
The same Houston that lost to SD, LA Rams and NO.. And Buffalo just
got man handled by Pitts burg. The first NYJ VS Buff game was when
the jets were out of sync and they still only lost 19-10, plus 7 of
Buffalo's pts came on a 61yrd Interception returned for a TD.....
The jets threw 2 Interceptions and lost 2 fumbles that game as well.
The Jets have a great chance at 9-7 and a good chance at 10-6. Many
teams still have a shot, I just Like the Jets chances at this point.
Again there only 1 loss away from not making it. If they lose to Cinn
NE, indy or Wash they can almost pack there bags early for sure....
I think they have a good enough team to get thru these 4 lesser teams
and by then it may be too late for many others....

| Well they just beat the NYG, Miami and Indy 3 in a row. (a combined
16-11 clubs). There next 4 games are against teams with a combined
6-30 record. -1, can you honestly say that the Jets should lose 1
of there next 4 games. Cinncy has to win sonner or later, but this
is a Win in most eye's, then you have NE (there last mtg was 45-7
when the jets were not playing that well) and then Indy and Wash.
They may split those last 2 putting them at a tough 8-5 record with
3 games left. The Buffalo and Houston game's are in the air at this
point, but the next 4 are more important. 9 wins could still make it
(Tie breaking) but 10 should get them in there... If they can just
hang in there and with the next 4 (easy games) they'll be in damn good
shape. If after they lost to the raider's someone said they were going
to win 3 of there next 4 games people would have laughed them right out
of this notes file. But they beat the Giants and then completed the
sweep of Miami.... They are for real...

Yeah, right. The Jets scored 45 pointes but "were not playing that

That's about the only way they could improve on their first game a-

I wouldn't say the Giants are playing about their heads. I'd say that
they came off the bye week not having done much (Reeves' fault) and
were looking past what they considered to be a weak NY Jets team, and
on to their big game against Dallas.
Clearly a case of them being complacent with their achievements to that
point, and looking past an opponent they should have taken seriously.

Yo air...
The chicken hawks are 5-5 (courtesy of a last place schedule I'll admit) and
are significantly better than the Pats. They have a great defense although
recently decimated by injuries, a good pair of wideouts in Brian Blades and
Kelvin Martin, a good runnig back tandem in Chris Warren and John L. Williams
and an up and coming QB in Rick Mirer.....
The big problems they have are in the offensive line and they need a killer
linebacker....
They still get beat on the road and against more veteran teams (esp at QB).
I'll take that bet about the pats and the Hawks even if the Hawks are at a
disadvantage because the Pats will have a last place schedule (again) next year.
Wanna wager a p-name next year?

| First , let me put one issue to bed....the Pats sip big time.
Second, the Giants are a decent team in a weak division. They won't
even come close to beating Dallas this year and if the Eagles didn't
get hammered with injuries, they wouldn't be able to beat them either.
Third, the Jets will beat the Bungles, Pats, Colts, and Skins. They
might also beat either the Oilers or the Bills. I doubt if they'll beat
Dallas in the regular season. If they get to the Super Bowl against the
Sowboys, they could knock them off.
Fourth, /Don is a just sore because his FFL team has gotten beat 140 to
26 over the last two weeks and his poor drafting skills are beginning
to show. So, he has to pick on the mighty Jets. Additionally, him and
the guy from the SI issue last year still think the Pats are a good
team and this is causing his brain to short circuit since the words
Patriots and Good do not compute.
Hope you all enjoy the Jets rise to the top. I know it's killing you to
admit the Jets finally have a Super Bowl caliber team, but, with a

This weekends game the jets played just good enough to win. But
after losing 2 close games they deserve to win a couple close ones.
I never really looked at the whole schedule but the Jets actually
have a legit shot at the division :-), there 1 game behind Buf and
play them X-Mas weekend and all they have to do is Tie Miami :-).
They Jets still need to take the next 2 (should be win games) with
indy and Wash before we can think Division :-) but right now we can
think Playoffs. Whats up with Boomer after throwing 9 TD's and
Rushing for another 1, and 2 300+yrd games in the first 4 weeks he
cooled way down. In the past 7 weeks he has just 5TD's and no 300+
yrd games ???? I hope he turn this around. The Dallas/Buffalo could
turn out to be HUGE games for the Jets :-) Id be very disapointed if
they end out blowing it... They have a great shot at getting into the
playoffs, from there anything can happen (Look at Buffalo's road to
the SB last year).

Okay, granted, but here's the other side of the coin.
NY should beat the Colts. But they have NO away on the Monday before
Christmas, and then away at Phoenix following the holiday.
Normally, they'd probably just head to Phoenix in that situation and
practice out there.
With the holiday, they'll come home, and head out there after Christmas.

I wouldn't say that by any stretch of the imagination.
From where I sit, for the Giants to win the division, they have to
run the table the rest of the way. If they lose to Dallas however, in the
last game, they still could take the tie-break with Dallas on having
a better division record, I believe.....

Raiders, SD, NYG, Chic, Indy, Minn and Clev were all upsets with
only the Rai and Pitt game really hurting NYJ. Man this week was
a killer, the AFC East had 1 winner Indy ??? Well this changes
everything the Jets now need help even if they beat Washington they
have a very tough stretch to end the season Dallas, Buffalo and
Houston. So a wash win and an upset VS one of those last 3 wont be
enough they now need the gimme game vs Wash and proberbly 2 wins VS
those last 3 (Buff and Hou are on the road to top things off). Even
with all this the only 3 teams in the AFC mathmatically elimanated
are NE, Cinncy and Indy (Looks like even if Indy ended at 8-8 at least
3 other teams would be at 8-8 that win tie breakers). Seattle is

Since they lost to both Denver and L.A., and are 1 game behind Buffalo,
it probably forces the Jets to beat Washington, and 2 of the last 3 to
get into the playoffs.
Having just beaten NE 6-0 then losing to Indy 9-6, the Jets are not
looking like the type of team to outscore high scoring teams.

What basically has been Blair Thomas' problem in the NFL? Is it
something to do with an inability or lack of desire to work in coming
back from his initial injury? This is the guy the Joe Paterno once

Yeah, I heard them talking about this last night. Typical phony media
indignation ("if this guy has any guts at all he'll come on our show
and explain himself"-- hah!) over a player dressing down some
smart-alecky writer that wrote something sarcastic about the defensive
coordinator and then turns around and wants to be everybody's buddy

| Well after futher review Id say there's a chance that Denver, Raiders
Buffalo and Jets could all end up at 10-6. Buffalo has Miami, NYJ and
Indy, so Indy's a win but could lose the other 2 and end at 10-6. IF
the jets beat buf maybe they can pull it out vs Hou to reach 10-6 as
well. Pitt will finish at 9-7, not enough. The rai will lose to GB,
Den will beat Chic and TB and the final game bet Rai and Den will land
in a 4 way tie or knock the Rai out of the playoffs (Asuming NYJ can
take buffalo). That the key game for the jets, the Dallas game would
be huge, but Dallas is awsome and now has new life in the race for
HFA with the Atlanta Win over SF last week... What the hell happend

shown that yet in the close games, theyve done the opposite, found a
way to lose. In week 1 they lost by 6 to denver, I didnt see the
game so dont know if it was ever winnable. In week 5 was a killer up
28-14 vs philly, philly comes back to score 21pts to NYJ 2pts on an
intentionaly safty. Philly had a 94yrd interception returned for a
Touchdown, jets lose 35-30 :-(, Jets threw 2 interceptions that day
and had 4 fumbles (lost only 1). They beat themselves on that day.
In the Raiders game NY was up 17-0 at one point and the Raiders score
a 1Yrd TD by Bell with a minute left in the game jets lose 24-20. And
now they do the worst thing they could, lose to Indy, 9-6, NY had twice
as many 1st downs, more rushing yrds and passing yrds, but once again
the jets threw 2 interceptions and fumbled 3 times ! Jets lose... Now
with Dallas, Buffalo and Houston (3 potential division champs and any
one could be going to the superbowl this year) things look a little
bleak to say the least. The other team fighting for a WC spot have
slightly weaker schedules :-(
This weeks win was pitiful, 3-0, 98 passing yrds by the jets, but hey
only 1 fumble, this was one of those games that both teams deserved to
lose. AFter losing to indy and bareley getting by washington what

If the Jets win the Steelers, for some reason, have no chance of getting
into the playoffs.
Jets need a 3 or 4 way tie to get in over the Raiders since they lost
to the Raiders. Jets get in with a 4 way tie of Steelers, Raiders, Dolphins
and with some 3-way ties.
I'll try and type in the chart from the NYT. They do not explain each scenario
but do give the outcome of who is in the playoffs.
Raiders and Dolphins can get in by winning and can still qualify if they lose.
Steelers and Jets can only get into the playoffs by winning and even
then need help.

Then after Chiefs win they added balt, pitt and browns to afl and

| Mr. Breen is right on the money. Prior to Super Bowl I the Chiefs
beat the Bills (because the Pats blew the Eastern crown by losing to
Namath and the Jests) and the Packers beat the Cowboys. Prior to Super
Bowl II the Raiders beat the Oilers and the Packers beat the Cowboys
again. Prior to Super Bowl III the Jesters beat the Raiders and the
Colts clobbered the Browns. Back in those days the NFL had a Second
Place Bowl that they played in Miami. The second place teams in both
the East and West played. I think it was finally and mercifully (most
of the games were a joke) discontinued in either '68 or '69. But I do
believe the year the Cheifs won Super Bowl IV they had already included
a wild card team because I believe the Chiefs beat the Jets first then
the Raiders on their way to Super Bowl IV and I also think there were
playoffs in the NFL.

from the 6-10's. The little things like special teams play, two minute
offenses decide so many games during a season. Under Coslett, the Jets
manage to lose far too many of those.
The losses to Philly,LA and Indy were inexcusable. They were lucky to
have not lost to NE,Wash among others. Only against the Dolphins(twice)

| WOW.... Although Im sad the Pats were robbed 2 games in a row its
nice to see some new blood in the thick of things in the AFC East.
I think right now the AFC East is the best in the afc. Buffalo will
be in there, as well as Miami and it looks like the Jets may give the
AFC a run for there money. The AFC East will have 3 representatives
in the playoffs and Im still hoping the Pats will make a run, Miami
and buffalo to start the season is a tough schedule but NY has taken
out 2 of the better teams in the east and hopefully they'll beat the
teams they should beat. But who made there schedule, the 4 time AFC
championship bills the first week then Denver with Elway and his highly
improved WR core and now Miami with the 90+% Marino and very decent
offense. Thats brutal... NY has a great chance at jumping out to an
early lead if they can Beat Miami this coming weekend, they have Cle
Indy and NE the following 3 weeks (Of course there going to lose to NE
but they can win the other 2).
Im surprised over the Cleveland loss, although week 1 was all special
teams they seemed better the Pittsburg, I know 1 week does not a season
make. Look at the pats 0-2 and I still think they have a shot at .500
season and potential WildCard...

They've finally broken my spirit....yesterday at lunch, with no knowledge of
this news, I was laughing at the Eagles and Kotite for implementing the "Joe
Walton Brain Dead Predictable 3rd and Long Draw" offense. Going home, I hear
the Jets rehired Kotite.
I've decided to defect...I'm going to become a Steelers fan. At least they
have a good coach and management that wants to win.

69.314 | Keyshawn Johnson stands out | HBAHBA::HAAS | more madness, less horror | Wed Sep 11 1996 13:54 | 18 |
| Wail, even though the Jets aint competitive, again, it seems that they do
have at least one world class jerk, Keyshawn Johnson.
It's not just his performance in the end zone after his TD catch, wherein
he stomped and took off his helmet and acted like he had won at least the
superbowl.
And it's not his laughing and grinning on the sidelines while his team
was being whooped by the Colts.
But, add those to his response to the critics about both of 'em, and you
got the makings of some real fun time in the Big Apple. Basically,
Johnson told 'em all that he din't care what anyone thinks about him.
While under some circumstances, this is commendable, evidently Johnson
doesn't realize that he's stuck in New York and they're gonna fry him.

Wasn't Keyshawn Johnson the guy that Hayden Fox wanted to make the top
draft pick for the Orlando Breakers? Keyshawn (on the show) told
Hayden not to draft him; he wanted to play for a winner. Kinda
ironic, isn't it, him playing for the Jets?

Keyshawn previously let the world know that he knew more about coaching
than his coaches by announcing that he should be the go to man.
Of course, considering that Kotite is the coach, he may have a point,
there...

What I mainly watch on TV aside from sports is movies. I'd rather sit in

I do watch SOME network TV, mainly NYPD Blue, the XFiles and Homicide.
Aside from the evening news that is.
Other than that I watch PBS, ESPN, History Channel (YES!!!!) and A&E, and
finally, I try hard NOT to miss The Furniture Guys and the how-to show on
the Learning Channel.

Once every couple of months Kim and I will go to a movie. Usually, we'll go
out to dinner (someplace casual definitely) and go to a movie. Sometimes we
hit, sometimes we miss. More often it's popcorn and a Blockbuster movie.
Some movies are GREAT on the big screen -- "Legends of the Fall" comes to mind,
and other movies, when we get them on video we say "glad we didn't see *this*

RE: - Johnson
Big deal. The guy scores his first touchdown, celbrates and everyone
makes him out to be a villian. See if he does it on his second. I
suspect you'd be happy with your first touchdown too.
Then he had the audacity to laugh and joke around on the SIDELINES.
Was he not all business on the field? Did he not try to accomplish
what was asked of him? Who cares what he does on the sidelines? Maybe
he had a really funny joke that he wanted to tell everyone to take
their minds off the game.

| Isn't that the best way to attract endorsement contracts? Seems like a smart
move on his part. How do you know he didn't get a 5K bonus for that TD with
the way they write contracts these days? Then of course there's the case of
two running backs, the one with all the endorsement deals is the one who took
his helmet off and kept his balls, the other just flipped the ball to the ref
and went to the sidelines.............

Martha Stewart is the most insipid, tedious, pretentious person I've ever come
across. Yet still she serves as an inspiration. If **she** can make money
writing books, so can *I*.
Rich Kotite needs a Martha Stewart influence in his game plans I think....

| Wail, if'n I was in charge, I'd adopt the college rules for dancing,
showboating and taunting.
So based on the current rules and regulations, what Keyshawn did was not
even close to a penalty.
Same goes for laughing on the sidelines while your team is stinking up
the place.
However, IMO, put 'em together and you've got was appears to be a guy far
more interested in his own stuff than the team's.
As for endorsements, he's already got at least one with addidas. He's
doing the football version of the Kobe Bryant add about wearing shoes
that look like your feet.
But whoever asked about discussin the X-files in the Jets topic was
right. They shouldn't be grouped. The X-files is quality. The Jets suck.
As for Sunday night, once again, multiple TVs come to the rescue.

Keyshawn's "dance" rated very poorly on style, imo. I don't mind
a unique, creative dance every once in a while, but Keyshawn wasn't
dancing so much as stomping around like a spoiled child. Then later
on he told Sterling Sharpe that he was making some kind of "statement"
based in his problems with Kotite and not being the starting WR nor
seeing the ball enough for his satisfaction. That's the worst part.
Uncool.
