1717.28 | RED WOOD MULCH vs. RED HEMLOCK ??? | CSCMA::BALICH | | Mon May 05 1997 09:03 | 10 |
|
I was about to order some Red Hemlock at our local place but I noticed
the place itself was using so-called RED WOOD MULCH (wood chips with
red dye) ... it looked pretty good, $8 cheaper per yard.
The place says the color will last 2 years .. is this really true ???
I wonder if it will attract MORE bugs that Hemlock ?
What are your thoughts on RED WOOD MULCH compared to say RED HEMLOCK ?

1717.31 | bark mulch | TLE::WENDYL::BLATT | | Mon May 05 1997 13:03 | 9 |
| hemlock mulch [always/usually?] means hemlock *bark* mulch. Same
as pine *bark* mulch. Sometimes, I've seen ants in bark mulch,
but I don't believe bark mulch attracts termites.
one good thing about wood chips is that they do last longer
before decomposing.

1717.32 | Perhaps the color will fade to something more natural. | HYDRA::CORRIGAN | If u'll be my Dixie Chicken... | Thu May 08 1997 09:02 | 5 |
| I've noticed this "Red" mulch being used extensively in my area
this spring. (Wilmington, Ma.). IMHO it's UGLY as sin. The color
is more flaming orange than red and as such looks out of place.

| I have to agree. Sometimes, the mulch looks pink to me. It's so
unnatural and out of place, it detracts from the rest of the
landscaping. I'd prefer something that blends well with the rest of
the yard.
