I am currently looking for a sub/sat setup for the bedroom. My spouse
has made it known that any such speakers in our smallish bedroom will
have to be
1) small (as in 6" x 10" or thereabouts)
2) wall-mounted
3) white (I may have leeway on this if we can't find anything we like)
For the sub, as long as we can put it under a table or something, it
doesn't matter.
My thoughts immediately went to Bose or Cambridge Soundworks because I
knew they sold products that fit the bill. However having scanned this
notes conference and the web, mainly what I find is people complaining
about the poor sound quality of these systems. The Bose AM-5 system in
particular got the worst comments across the board. We are used to
reasonably good quality systems, so I'm aware these requirements are
going to force us to compromise a bit on sound quality. I'm still
considering a CS setup. I've never been thrilled with any BA systems
I've heard, but I'd be willing to check them out as well. Are there any
other manufacturers that make sub/sat systems that could fit this bill?
I expect my range is $300-$400 new or used.
I live in central Mass and would appreciate any suggestions for similar
systems available in this area.
Cheers,
--Dave

I have mostly Cambridge Soundworks stuff (for my home theatre setup). It works
well for me (but I don't have golden ears). The complaints I've heard are mostly
about dynamic range and a "hole" in the midrange. For a bedroom you might
consider their model six. They're a little weak in the low bass (do you really
want THUNDER in the bedroom? From your speakers I mean.) but they are relatively
small, inexpensive, come in three or four colors and have gotten respectable
reviews. They might be a bit large for wall mount though.
We have the Ensemble II which I think are running about $400 for "A" stock now.
We got "B" stock for around $350 about 3 years ago. We've been happy with it.
You'll have to listen to them for yourself to really see if you like them. You
can buy them, try them out at home, then return them if you don't like them (at
least it used to be that way, double-check before you do it). Set'em up in your
bedroom and see how they sound...

| If NHT still makes the SuperZero, I would heartily recommend them as
the sats.. given your space constraints, you might have to go with the
SW1 sub, not as nice as the SW2p, but still quite good.

| Yes, NHT still makes the SuperZero as well as the slightly larger
SuperOne. A fine speaker, especially when paired with an NHT
subwoofer.
