    like regular stocks. But those things under the control of the CFTC
    (Commodities Futures Trading Commission) are not subjected to insider

    Recent observation: Men can coil up long cords or cables a lot better
    than women. When faced with the challenge of organizing, say, a 50-foot
    extension cord, like one of those orange suckers, I have tried throughout 
    my life to complete this seemingly simple task in what seemed to be a
    straightforward, logical manner: wind it back and forth a bunch of
    times and wrap the excess around the middle, swearing passionately
    all the while. This has never yet worked.
    
    The thing always flops all over, looks terrible, and soon falls apart.
    I hand this same cord to my husband, and--poof! Within seconds, it has
    become a neat, perfectly-coiled engineering marvel.
    
    I always thought this was due to some neuronal deficiency on my part,
    until I cleaned up a lab with some men and some women. Amazingly, the
    pattern held true. The cables the men cleaned up were perfect little
    loops, while the womens' were chaotic masses.
    
    Check it out. Do a little experiment on some unsuspecting victims
    and you will see. Any guesses why?

    Because the women aren't untwisting the cords as the roll them up.

When my wife coils an extension cord or a mooring line she wraps it
between her left hand and her left elbow, winding it vigorously with her
right hand. Whatever she's coiling gets *twisted backwards* with every
wrap she takes.

When I coil a line, I use my left hand to hold the coils I'm forming with
my right hand. I *twist the line to the right*, one turn for each loop of
the coil I'm gathering. The coil then lays neatly in my left hand. It
took a Boatswain's Mate about sixty seconds to teach me the trick. The
length that would go into the last two coils is used to wrap the whole
coil, and the bitter end is tucked into one wrap. 

Men don't tell women about this because it makes us look good, and we
need all the help we can get.

      I think the reason is that men's arms are (generally) longer
      and stronger and its easier to retain that nice coil as you 
      are wrapping it around.
    
      Another thing I learned a few years ago is that I am an alpha
      thinker which means my mind is essentially all the way on or
      all the way off and it is a burden getting it turned on when 
      its off.  When I read Art's explanation, I almost immediately
      drifted into a zone wherein I was in the midst of the bliss
      of thoughtlessness - and I've been there ever since!!!   :-)
    
      A good example is driving to a place I don't know how to get
      to.  It is very hard for me to make myself learn how to get
      there if someone else is in the car.  If I'm alone, its no
      problem.

     Note that black flies, noseeums, gnats and mosquitoes are NOT

    I can give a kidney to my twin, without fear of it being

    A fraternal twin are two eggs that are fertilized at the
    same time or around the same time.  The genetic makeup is
    as different as siblings.  Paul Tsongas and his twin were
    lucky enough to have a match.  He is not an identical

     When you first register your car in MA and you take the car to be
    inspected, the mechanic disables the external lamps so it looks to the
    driver as if s/he's using the directionals without violating the rule

In 1898, fourteen years before the Titanic sailed into history, Morgan
Robertson wrote a novella entitled "Futility." The subject was a super
ocean liner that was remarkably close to the Titanic in size (800 feet
versus 882; 70,000 tons versus 66,000) and lush appointments.  Like the
Titanic, it struck an iceberg on a cold April night and sank, with a huge
loss of life ("rich, complacent people") because there weren't enough
lifeboats. Robertson named his fictional ship "Titan."

Robertson also wrote a story about a December Sunday morning surprise
attack on Pearl Harbor by an Asian navy - note that he was writing in the
1900 time frame.

He also wrote about bombs that were "sun-like" and incinerated everything
within a mile of the drop point.

     This is the closest description of the actual situation.
    
     Coke had polar bears. Polar had polar bears. Coke sued to get Polar to
    stop using polar bears in their commercials (typical corporate
    bullying). In response, Polar made a commercial that showed a polar
    bear tossing a red can (with white lettering) and drinking a can of
    Polar soda (this was after the original suit had been filed but before
    it had been adjudicated.) This sent Coke into a tizzy. Eventually it
    was decided that Polar had the right to use polar bears in their
    commercials, as did Coke, but Polar stopped showing the bear tossing
    the coke can. (I don't think they were actually enjoined from doing so,
    but they didn't want to spend money in a courtroom to decide whether
    they could do so when the only reason they did it in the first place
    was to thumb their noses at Coke.)

    I drink Polar seltzer.  I've never seen it other than in this area.
    

    Polar is a regional brand and private label bottler.  They bottle RC
    Cola, Orange Crush (I think) and a few other national brands not
    affiliated with Pepsico or Coca Cola.  They have the Polar label and 
    recently acquired Adirondack, another regional brand.  I don't care for
    their products but that's all Wachusett Mountain will serve as the owners 
    (Crowley family) also own Polar.

    Coke has a long and undistinguished history of beating up on little
    folk.  They also prevented a vintner from using his family name on his
    small estate label.  They claimed they won the rights to the name when
    they bought the larger more well known "vineyard".  

    Another case of Goliath throwing down the legal gauntlet against David
    is E&J Gallo attacking Pine Ridge winery's use of owner Gary Andrus'
    name on a special, reserve bottling of cabernet sauvignon. The Pine
    Ridge Andrus Reserve cab is the subject of a suit filed by lawyers for
    Gallo industries, who contend that allowing the owner to put his name
    on a bottle of wine "might confuse consumers" based on its similarity
    with Gallo's "Andr�" line of sparkling wines. This despite the fact
    that cabernet sauvignon is a still wine (as opposed to a sparkler) and
    the Andr� line costs about $4 per bottle while the Andrus reserve costs
    in excess of $30 per bottle.
    
    But all is not well in Modesto. Kendall-Jackson owner Jess Jackson has
    filed suit over Gallo's "Turning Leaf" line, alleging the packaging is
    "deceptively similar" to the Kendall-Jackson brand.
    
     Personally, I think these suits should be tossed, and the plaintiffs
    fined for wasting the court's time with frivolous suits.

    Yup, Walter S. of Bully Hill infamy.  Toured the winery on a few
    occasions.  Liked the bohemian style the place had.  Many of those
    bottles with the magic marker covering the last name are worth quite a
    bit of money to collectors.  We tried to get to the ox roast one year
    but never actually made it.  Some of their stuff was quite drinkable

    re Coke: Locally a couple of weeks ago, there was the Olympic tourch
    relay that crossed our beloved state of NH. And there were allot of
    folks hawking the Coke bottles and goodies. I was told that Coke told
    the local street venders that you could not get a city license to
    peddle hotdogs and etc if you were not peddling Coke. The venders were
    paying a $200++ license for one night.
    
    I bought a Coke from the local NHS booth, and won a free bottle of
    Coke. Went back to the locals to collect and was told that they were a
    charitable org and refused to honnor the free Coke!! So, looks like I
    have become a Pepsi drinker too!:)

    Yes, indeed... my father worked as a welder all his life, and he'd
    frequently tell me stories about what "fun" it was to be a welder.
    He always wore long-sleeved heavy-cloth work shirts, as protection
    from UV burn and also from flying "sparks" or whatever (the arms of
    his shirts always looked like swiss cheese anyway).
    
    Once in a while, someone in his shop would get what they called
    "flash", which seemed to be some kind of temporary partial blindness
    caused by unexpected exposure to someone else's arc (or your own, I
    guess, if you were inadequately protected).
    
    His descriptions of his job always ended with the moral, "Go to
    school, son".

    UV is light.  It is just in a portion of the spectrum that human eyes
    do not recognize as visible.

    I have no idea if he takes PE drugs.  Bailey is Jamaican by birth;
    he's much taller than some of the other Jamaican runners.  With
    legs as long as his I'd guess he doesn't need drugs.
    
    Besides, he was a winner from the first race he entered; he wasn't
    a ho-hum runner who suddenly sprinted to glory in the Olympics ;-)

He had a picture of him in his office. They looked like they were twins. But
