1655.0. "Selecting proper servo?" by NCMAIL::BLUMJ () Mon Feb 20 1995 08:33

    I was reading an article in the latest QFI magazine by Carl Van Vloten
    about the construction of his 4.85 meter Minimoa.

    In the article he states that a single standard 40 oz. servo would only
    be good up to about 20 mph when used to drive the Minimoa's elevator.
    He elected to use two servos to deal with this problem.

    I am building a Senior Telemaster wich has a large elevator. I guess
    I will use a high torque(70 oz.) servo for the elevator.

    Does anyone know how to select the proper size servo for the job?

    Why is there such stress on the elevator, it does not seem that it
    moves any more than the ailerons which are equivalent in area?

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Jim, the Feb 1995 issue of MAN has an article on servos and may help
    answer your question. Starts on p 64.
