Yet another beginners question - I have a molded fiberglass landing gear that needs to be attached to the fuselage of a 10 lb airplane. It is my understanding that it is a good idea to use 1/4" nylon bolts which will allow the landing gear to break away in the event of a VERY hard landing. Will two 1/4" nylon bolts do the job or should I use four? Thanks, Jim

Personally, I don't like having my landing gear depart on hard landings. It usually comes off and damages something else on the plane like the wing or horizontal stab. I prefer to use four (4) steel bolts on a 10 lb plus plane. I believe the fiberglass gear can take the extra abuse, but if you insist on nylon; use four (4). The white ones appear to be stronger than the black ones. Just my .02 worth. | |||||

Jim, I'd use at least four on a big plane. They actually break pretty easy - the heads will shear off. From my experience, they break too easy. Charlie |
