| Art,
Those Model Tech prices are very good. The Hurricane I picked up
was $15 under the mail order price so I saved about $20 when you
include shipping. I've owned and flown several Modeltech kits and they
are high quality - except for the instructions. Since there's minimal
assembly, the poor instructions are not a real problem. I have no idea
where the CG is on the Hurricane. (I can calculate it from previous
experience but it isn't in the instructions I got.)

| I visited Bill H.B. on the way back? from a meeting today.
My impressions of the store were very favorable. I found the size and
contents to be similar to RC buyers but without most of the chopper
stuff.
What I did see was much clearer pricing.(R/C buyers does not tag his
stuff. What Bill does is declare "Lower than Tower!. Basically if it's
.99c at Tower it will be .95c at Bill's. Also all the accessories hanging
on the wall are 10% off to AMA members.
I also found out that there is a 4-c deal going on with OS ranging from
$25 cash rebate to $50 merchandise voucher. This is after you pay the
Bill/Tower price. Note it is on 4-c's only.
This is a limited offer from OS. I noted that it brings the price below
the YS on the 91's by about $20 approx.
Bill's was previously not that well known to me but Willmingtion
changed that. Maybe the show works?.
Regards,
E.
What?, did I buy anything? Sure I did, but not for me :-) A starter for
#1 son's car.

| Ok... what kind of blackmail does the kid have? He had his hand pretty deep into
your pockets at the show as well (at least he brought several bags back for
storage 8^)
Keep the reports going. I'll probably make it up there at some point. I seem to
have solved my .32 and prop needs locally for now. Now where'd I leave that
"spare time"?

1594.5 | Bill's Pricing On Tower Stuff | STAR::LEMIEUX | | Fri May 06 1994 10:22 | 40 |
|
Bill's pricing on Tower stuff, is basically add 5 dollars to the Tower
book price and subtract 5 cents, this makes it less than Tower
including shipping and you get it at the store and walk out with it
no waiting for 7 to 14 days.
Bill will also do what he calls lost leaders. For example he has
offered all OS engines at a lost. Last year I picked up the following
engines... OS32 $89, OS40SF $109 and OS46SF 119. He has done the same
thing with Tiger engines. These kind of specials will run about a week
maybe 2 weeks.
Bill will also take order for stuff he does not carry in the store,
just give him the part number and who makes it. Turn around is usually
a week or less. The bulk of his orders come in on Tues and Thurs.
If he gets to know you, he will take installment payments on the high
price stuff ( You keep track of the receipts ) and orders it ( if he
does not have one in stock ), at the price he quoted when you have
about $20 left to pay on the item.
An example of this is when I ordered a SUPER SEVEN for
channel *** 12 *** which at that time was running about $360, when
I was within the $20 dollar range he ordered it and the price
he paid for it had jumped and I used my Visa which causes him to lose
a percentage and I knew this and since I am allowed behind the counter
I saw the receipt of the order and noted the price he paid *** he was
loosing on this deal ***. The price on the next tower flyer was about
$380. I gave him $370 the initial quote was $349 and he would of taken
$349.
He does treat his regular customers good. One time I was in the store
just talking with him and some of the customers, Bill asked me if I was
flying the next day, I said No, I am broke and out of fuel, he said
take what you need and pay me next time you come in.
So much for Bill...
