1373.0. "1st Annual HTA Dinner" by WILLEE::CAVANAGH () Tue Oct 22 1991 16:40

A little while back I was drafted...I mean, volunteered to set up the
First Annual HTA Dinner. A lot of things have gotten in my way of setting
everything up, but now I'm on a roll.
I was just going to say 'be here on this date' and that was going to be
it! But after talking to a few restaurants I decided to get some input
on this.
A few questions I have are:

Is there a MAJOR problem with Friday, November 22 or December 6?
Do people prefer an open menu or a single item (like at a wedding)?

Right now I'm looking at 3 places:

           Tom Foolery's in Westboro
           J.J. O'Rourke's in Shrewsbury
           America's Harvest in Marlboro

I think JJ's will give us the most flexibility with the menu so I'm
leaning towards them.

This dinner is for all HTA's and their spouses/dates/s.o.'s/whatevers...
There will be a $10/person charge that is only refundable at the dinner.
This is to ensure attendance. I haven't decided about a raffle/door prizes
or whatever yet.

SO.....my personal preference is JJ's on December 6th. What's yours?

                  Jim

P.S. This is going to be cd'd like an HTA combat: I'll listen to suggestions
and then do what I want anyhow! 8^)

I'd prefer Tom Foolery's but will _happily_ go to any of the 3
listed. Both dates seem OK for me...

I was surprised when it looked like you were getting prime Xmas party
time so late in the year. Weekend time is better that weeknight time
for me. After the holidays might work better too.

1373.4The new improved dinnerWILLEE::CAVANAGHWed Oct 23 1991 16:4157
OK, ignore most of what I've already said.

  The new scoop is:

     J.J. O'Rouke's
     17-Jan-1992 (evening)

Tickets are $10/person (refundable only upon attendance - no shows
help pay for my drinks! 8^)

The southerly location is *not* an attempt to slight the northerly HTA
members. It's simply a case of going with something I'm familiar with.

  Directions:

From Rt. 495 (north or south)

      - Take exit #23B. This is Rt. 9 west.
      - Go through 3 sets of traffic lights.
      - Approx. 1/2 mile past the 3rd set of lights, Rt. 9 crosses over
        Rt. 20.
      - Take the second exit onto Rt. 20 West.
      - Approx. 200 yards after crossing under Rt. 9 you will see J.J. O'Rouke's
on the right. There is also a motel that uses the same parking lot (an
        option for travelers).

      - As you pull into the parking lot you will see the main entrance in
front of you. Go in that door. Approx. 15 feet inside the main door
you will find another door on the left that leads downstairs. That
is where our dinner will be held.

I will be posting a menu here to let you know what is available.

To be eligible to attend you *must*:

         o Buy a ticket
o Be an R/C enthusiast or significant other of an R/C enthusiast
o Be able to tell tall stories
o Know what HTA stands for (liberal interpretations are acceptable)

That's it for the moment. Please let me know if you plan on attending ASAP
so I can get a count. Then I will work on getting ticket sales going.

I hope a LOT of people can attend!

I still plan on attending. Count me in for 2.

Who will be the first married man not able to convince his wife that
a night of HTAs swapping flying stories will be the best time of her
    life????? :-)
1373.9Le menuWILLEE::CAVANAGHFri Oct 25 1991 16:0841
I received copies of the available menu from JJ's today. As it turns
out we will be restricted as far as menu options go. If this was going
to be a noon time affair we would get the standard lunch menu.

I actually think this will work out better since I put the menu together
and let everyone know what the cost (minus drinks) will be. Some of the
options are only available if there are 35 people or more. The most
expensive item would be Prime Rib at $15.95/person and the cheapest
are the baked stuff chicken and the baked ham steak at $11.95/person.
These include veggies, potato, rolls and a beverage (coffee, tea, milk,
or soft drink). We would have our choice of 2 entrees. The list includes:

             Schrod
             Lobster (at market price)
             Baked stuff chicken
             Chicken cordon bleu
             Prime rib
             New York Sirloin steak
             Broiled tenderloin tips teriyaki
             Broiled swordfish steak
             Baked ham steak
             Baked seafood casserole
             Baked stuffed shrimp

I'll even let you vote for your 2 choices.

This setup will force me to ask for pre-payment of meals (non-refundable).
This would replace the $10 'incentive to show up' fee.

  What do you think?

                          Jim

Anyone who is interested in attending the HTA dinner should get in
touch with me by Wednesday November 27. I am going to give the final
headcount to the restaurant by the 1st of December. We currently
have about 18 people attending. So if you want to attend and haven't
already told me, do so now....please.
