| While in Reno this last summer, I stopped in a hobby shop where
the owner showed me the similarity between the Polk/Expert radio
TX module and Futaba. The outside design is the same, and
they are mechanically identical. To be honest, I know that I
must have asked him if the module would work, but since I'm not
interested in either the Aristo or Futaba, I don't remember the
answer. Anyway, you might check it out by taking your radio to a
shop and trying the modules.

Good question, I have an AM Futaba FG also and would be interested in
the answer. I'd be surprised if the FM module were compatible...
Futaba didn't make the connectors compatible from AM to FM, probably
to force people to buy new servos for their FM set.
Then again, maybe the modules _are_ compatible, but cost $150.

| If you think about it the jap's radio's marketing position clearly
indicates that they don't want to be in the loose piece business.
They are probably set up to build and ship systems. not the
individual pieces of the systems. For me it just doesn't make
sence to buy servos and RX's unless your buying a computer system.
When the system costs 800.00 it's actually cheaper to buy one system
and then flight packs. Flightpacks cost you app 400.00 . But then
thats cheaper than 800.00 for a second system. If you need that
kind of system then it's cost effective. For the avg. sport guy
I cannot see buying any system greater tha the 7UAP's or similar
that futaba sells. they give you functionality for under 300.00.

1130.4 | FM not the answer if not dual conversion | LEDS::WATT | | Tue Oct 17 1989 22:20 | 11 |
| If the FG is available in FM, I would make darn sure that it includes a
Dual Conversion Receiver (Narrow Band). If not, it will most likely be
more prone to interference than the AM. The older FM receiver designs
seem to be pretty bad. I know a couple of guys that sent them back to
be converted to AM. Anyway, don't assume that FM is better than AM.
The newer FM receivers are very good because of dual conversion which
makes them immune to some of the image problems that single conversion
receivers are having.
