Does any body know of any airborne telemetry devices that are commercially available. I have been approached by a Post Grad student at the University wanting some assistance. He has a small grant to study speed/spin performance of particular aircraft shapes.. He needs to monitor; speed, attitude, etc. I have advised him to contact John Worth at the AMA as I know he was involved in that line of work.. Any other ideas would be appreciated John

Of course, there's ACE's Thermal Sniffer...and I know we're mentioned the electrostatic "autopilot" device here in this file; I think in the Glider note. I'll bet that he could the electrostatic device in various configurations of sensors to get all the info he needs! Keep us posted.

I would suggest asking the same question in the ROCKETRY note.
Add entry STEREO::USERC:[ROCKETS]ROCKETRY
There seems to be a fare amount of people into model rocketry that
also have a line of miniturized telemetry devices.

| 1012.3 | Here's some important addresses | ROCK::MINER | Electric = No more glow-glop | Fri May 26 1989 16:21 | 46 |
This topic has been my "secret" speciality for 2 years now... I've been
gathering lot's of info. Anyway, here's some addresses of some
important companies...
Maynard Hill is *the* guy who started the electrostatic stabilizer stuff
(at least for R/C if not in the whole world...)
Aero Probe Technology
Attn: Maynard Hill
2001 Norvale Rd.
Silver Spring, MD 20906
Both of the next 2 companies specialize in altimeters (both absolute -
like a full scale altimiter and relative - like Ace R/C's Sniffler) and
airspeed indicators, airborne engine RPM indicators, and lots of other
neat goodies. All of these type of devices transmit a signal to the
ground and you can read airspeed, RPM, or altitide on a handheld meter.
Condor R/C also sells the stuff from Aero Probe (Maynard Hill) and from
High Sky. Basically, if you want to contact only one place, contact
Condor R/C... (Condor R/C was also getting ready about 1 year ago to
sell a *real* R/C turbofan engine from Japan. I've forgotten the exact
stats., but it was something like 6 inches in diameter, weighed 10
pounds, and put out 55 pounds of thrust!! Price: "approx." $10,000.00!)

| 1012.4 | altimeter design | ESASE::CULLEN | Fri Sep 08 1989 05:09 | 12 | |
If you are still interested...
I came across a circuit for an altimeter in an old electronics mag recently.
It was designed for use in a microlight - but is fairly small and could
be modified for use ie get it to hold highest altitude reading, maximum
rate of climb / descent. If interested I will copy and forward.

Eric();

Eric, The problem has been solved but I would still be interested in getting a copy of the circuit. Thanks in advance John
