No, I'm interested in the Cub from the firewall forward. I'm really
considering building a scale Bower "Fly Baby" monoplane for next
year's Nat's in Chicopee Ma. The "Fly Baby" uses a J3 cowl. What
I need is really the info on the dummy cylinder in some of the kits.
Presntly I plan on using an OS 90/4 in the bird. Expected wing span
will be app. 72 inches. I talked to a guy in NC. who runs a plans
service and he has enlarging capability. So, I'll be having the
factory 3 views enlarged to the correct size and then develop the
internal structure. I'm also planning on going with plug in wings.

So again any info is most appreciated.

    Tom,

Sig has J-3's in two sizes; Goldberg and House of Balsa also kit
the Cub. I'm sure ther're more but can't recall at the moment.

Well the pursute of a better Fly Baby continues. I called Proctor
Enterprizes and they'll be mailing out their cataloge to me today.
From my discussion with the guy it seems that they will have all
of the rigging hardware I will need (except for some special brackets).
My next great detail is the hardware for mounting the landing gear.
The full size used wood landing gear struts and a hing type mounting
strap to the fuse. I'm really wondering if I can get away with using
a 1/4 inch plywood strut for the landing gear. I know that I would
have to make the gear rmovable and have extra sets.

Anyone know of any scale instrument kits available??

To continue this topic I need those in Noter Land who own a J3 Cub
to do me a favor. What I need in to have to measure your cowl
for width, height and depth. I'm looking to see if one of the
kitted cowls will fit the 1/5th Flybaby i'm planning on building.
    Thank's in advance.

550.6At a snails paceDISCVR::JONEILLTue Jan 23 1990 06:5912
I was recently given a Sig cub, all framed up ready for radio and
covering. Although it's not my first plane, I do have a few
construction questions. Im looking at the wing and it seems kinda
thin, how is the servo situated ( standing up, lying down,..).
Whats an exceptable and secure way to attatch the struts? I thought
also the directions mentioned glassing the center section, not a whole
lot of meat there to hang onto (underside). Im taking this real slow
so Im not sure how soon I'll put the upcomming advise into practice
but I'll apreciate any advise I can find.

                                                    Thanks much
                                                        Jim
550.7Goldberg J-3 with Enya 54/4CSOA1::RANKINWed Jan 24 1990 09:5511
I was recently given a Goldberg J-3 (anniversary edition) by the
fat man in the red suit. I am getting ready to start the fuse but
need to purchase the engine so that the firewall and engine mount
    can be properly positioned.

I am thinking about the Enya 53 4 stroke to power it. Does anyone
have any experience with this engine in any application? Any input
good or bad would be appreciated.

    Thanks for your help,
    -jr

Re -.1

My own 2 cents worth; I have a Fox 50 2 stroke in mine and I think its marginal
as far as take-off performance. Its fine in the air as a Cub isn't supposed to
be a screamer anyway. My understanding of 4 strokes is that you get from about
50% to 80% of the power of an equivalent sized 2 stroke so with a .56 and
giving ENYA the 80% mark you get the equivalent of roughly a .45. In my humble
opinion not nearly enough. I wouldn't go with less than a .60FS and something in
the .70 - .90 range would definitely be more fun.
