| I am not sure what kind of radio you have, but I would recommend
that you get the same make gyro. That way, you will know that the
timing in the gyro matches the receiver. I have not experienced
the problem but I have read that some gyros have to be retuned to
work well with certain radios.

I'm using a straight 4 function JR radio.Should I get
heavily into this helicopter and buy some heli-radio,there's
no way I will get a JR set,so I don't really want to get a
JR gyro.
I don't know if you get them in the US but i was
thinking along the lines of Quest,KO,or Century Systems

| Is this note file still active?? If so, please let me know by sending
mail to alctrz::BATESON_MA. I'm interested to hear of flying in
the U.K. and to learn what has happened tp R/C Helicopter magazine.
It seems the publication and editor have disappeared.

| Hi Mark,
St. Louis certainly doesn't qualify as the U.K. but I do have an
answer for you. I have a subscription to R/C Helicopter magazine
and figured it had gone down the tubes when Colin Tough threw in
with that Swiss mag. I called up a friend of mine yesterday and
mentioned how I thought they'd given up the ghost. My friend said
he had just got a new issue! Colin Tough ran into problems with
his new partners. He's back to publishing the thing by himself.
He's got a big editorial in the mag describing all of the troubles
he had and says that if you've had subscription problems to send
him a letter at the Barn House address. The latest issue with the
new name looks a lot better put together than the first issue under
the new name.

G'day
I'm over here in the UK, I'll shout so that you can here
me.......
Once upon a time there was R/C Helicopters magazine, then
several months ago another one called Helicopters International
( or something ) appeared, published by someone else, but
containing articles by the same group of flyers..
I dunno if there just wasn't a big enough market but the two
magazines combined, can't remember the name of the new mag
tho, probably R/C Helicopters International. I think Colin
Cameron-Tough sold out.. He's involved with the new mag.
Traplett publications who produce amongst other thing R/C Model
World have announced in this months issue a new bi-monthly
magazine dedicated to helicopters, called Helicopter Model
World.
BTW I have a Morley Bell 47G, tho' I must admit that I haven't
been flying it much lately due to a problem at our field....
and it's been very windy.....

Bob, I'm really interested in your impressions of the Morley
chopper. What engine size is it? How is the construction? Weight?
Collective or fixed? Can you copy any of the documentation that
comes in the kit and sent it over the pond?

Hya Tom
The Morley is a pretty good helicoopter.. All 4 of the range
use the same mechanics, and are .40 size.... They are collective
pitch heads.... The kits are built down to a price, ie mechanics
are virtually all plastic, even the rotor head comes in pieces.
Tho' assembly is no real problem. The best thing about it is the
cost and availability of spares..... main blades for example are
only #5, as opposed to #12 for the Kalt Cyclone.. All the other
parts are similarly cheap.....
They fly well and in the right hands are capable of all the aerobatic
manoeuveres you could wish to perform, 'specially the MXA... The
Morley Demo is rather impressive and usually consists of 10+ models
wizzing all over the place.
Without doubt they represent ( over here ) extremely good value
for money. I've had a lot of pleasure out of mine and would reccommend
one to anybody contemplating trying out choppers.
The instructions are adequate.. but I believe they've been rewritten
and are now very good. I'll get a copy off to you.
cheers

Could you give more detail into what is "Plastic"? Do you
mean plastic or carbon fiber reenforced plastic. What are the
main frames made of?
could I get a look at the directions?

Judging by the price of the Heim mechanice, which are carbon
reinforced, the Morley parts probably aren't.. they are certainly
up to the job tho'. There are ballraces and phospher bearings in
the places that matter. I was a bit concerned that the swashplate
was plastic, but it's been no problem so far....
The frame itself is made of Ali plate, and the main/tail gears
and clutch are of course metal... The tail pitch control is a
bit sloppy, as is the mixer slider on the main shaft.. These
can be easily improved with a couple of simple mods.
Autorataion is not standard, but is available for another #30 or
so... 3 and 4 blade flybarless heads are also available.
cheers

I thought that flybars were the design breakthrough that finally made
RC helicopters successful. Prior to that there just wasn't a powerful
enough hydraulic system on board to change the rotor pitch.
So how are they now getting away without flybars?

Robinson, Morley, several specialist manufacture's whose names
I can't remember at the moment.....
