963.0. "Want weekend sailboat rental" by LEDS::MEEKER () Mon Aug 29 1988 19:29

    	I'm looking to rent a 30-35 foot sailboat for a weekend in
    September or October. Does anyone have suggestions for
    particularly pleasant two/three day sails and marina's which
    will charter boats? Anywhere along the MA or RI coast line is
    possible.

    Thanks -  Mary

963.1Murray Yacht Charters - Portsmouth, RIMOORED::GERSTLETue Aug 30 1988 09:3216
    If you like the Rhode Island area, you might try Murray Yacht Charters
    in Portsmouth. They are located about 6 miles north of Newport
    at the East Passage Yachting Center, formerly Coggeshall Marina,
    more formerly Bend Boat Basin.

    From there - the Elizabeth Islands, Block, Long Island, Conneticut,
    Cape Cod Canal, etc. Also there is some very nice day sailing to
    be found right in Narragansett Bay.

    I have no personal experience with Murray, but know of others who
    have been happy.

    Enjoy,
    Carl

963.2Wells in MarbleheadCASV01::THOMAS_Eshort!!Tue Aug 30 1988 10:186
    You might try calling Wells Yachts in Marblehead. They do charters
    and run a Sailing school as well.

963.3Wells and Murray = PearsonsINABOX::MCBRIDETue Aug 30 1988 14:588
    Both Murray and Wells offer Pearsons from 28' to 36'. We took a
    learn to charter course through Murray Management and found the
    boats to be very clean and well cared for. There is more parking
    in East Passage as well but I think it may be harder to provision.

    Just out of (perhapse Naive) curiosity, how much does it cost
    to charter a boat like that for a weekend?

I'm not sure what the current rates are. Three or four years ago a week
charter was $600 to $800 for a 30 to 35 foot boat. A weekend might be
around half that. One reason for this is that the insurance surcharge on
some policies (such as the one we had) was the same for any charter
seven days or less.

    current rates are about $125 per day on a one, two or three day
    charter

    Mary,

    I'd like to know what other responses you get. I've been doing
    a lot of chartering (around 37-47 foot) in Annapolis, Vancouver,
    Newport, Boston, and now I'm looking at the Virgin Islands or
    Greece. Any other locations/names that come up I'd like to
    see.

    Thanks

    If you're looking at Greece, I chartered last year from Minotaur
    Charters in Nidri on Levkas island. Several Aloa 27's, a couple
    of Jeaneau's and a strange ketch. Good value.
