    	the car exists, and is a Jaguar (perhaps an XJ12?).  I didn't
    hear the story about the driver being banned, but I did hear that
    he had more than his fair share of attention from the boys in blue.
    I used to know the name of the owner, but I can't remember who he is.
    Anyway, the car can often be seen around Edinburgh's New Town.

    On the way to work this morning I followed a frozen-food delivery truck 
    from Vermont; it license plate:

    Which remined me of a story I had heard that an employee of the County
    Extnesion Service in Vermont frequently had the task of visiting local
    farms to perform artificial insemination on dairy cattle.  His license
    plate reflected his job:

    I was in Edinburgh at the weekend, and sure enough 50BER was to
    be seen cruising in Charlotte Square.  It has now metamorphosed
    into one of the new Jaguar XJS coup�.

    I've seen a Porsche with plate PORTIA, and an X1/9 with plate VROOM.
    My old 240Z had plate PDP-Z for many years, back when DEC machines

    I saw a really good one on a NY plate a few weeks ago in Lenox MA,
    but of course I've forgotten it...

And that's the way I read it too.  To be considered in the "success is measured
by the car you drive" syndrome.  'Course, because I *don't* have an expensive
car, and look down (up?) my noses at those who do, I'm not snobby in any way
at all, oh no.

    I will probably never own a Subaru, but if I do, this might be
