A plea for help from someone with a VMS account...

One stage of the processing of the people info on www.bbp.dec.com involves
converting a VMS RMS file to UNIX format, which up to now has been done on
my trusty old VAXstation 3100 (!).

This machine is about to be decommisioned, so I need a volunteer with a VMS
account to process the file for me - it just needs running once a week and
in batch and only takes a few seconds.

It works on a file which starts out life on CHEFS, so if it could be done
by someone on chefs, so much the better.

I have got a VMS system which has a farly good chance of surviving into next
year, but I don't think the same is true of CHEFS, since all user
accounts will be removed once everybody has migrated from ALL-IN-1 to
Exchange (planned for the end of June).

Will CHEFS actually go, or just the user accounts?

MY web server relies on the existence of the file

 chefs::whois$data_disk:[whois]whois.dat

Anyone know if this will still be around?

End of June??? You must be kidding! Very few of the technical
specialists here in the CSC even have PC's, never mind Exchange
	accounts.

That file is also on KERNEL:: which is the host for all sorts of
business critical legacy systems, so will probably be around until
	at least July.

CHEFS will actually go, but will be around a little longer than June.
    WOTVAX likewise.

Maggie Nixon @REO has been putting together a list of applications
dependant on CHEFS, based on input from business unit IT
representatives. Most things on the list now have migration paths in
place. I do not recall seeing whois.dat on the list.

I believe you're in NSIS? Your rep. would be Jack Allan @EDO. I suggest
you contact Jack to ensure a solution is forthcomming.

Anyone else with concerns about dependencies on CHEFS should also
    contact their BU IT rep.

This has been known about for a while now. A mail to all from senior
managment is awaited. I am told that clear and consistent communication
through proper channels is important so as to avoid confusion and
    uncertainty.

    Andy.
