7.0. "NHIS (Loudon, Bryar)" by CSSE32::FERREIRA () Tue Oct 11 1988 10:32

                        Bryar Motor Sports Park

The Bryar complex, which consists of the road course, 3/8ths oval, motor
course track for bikes, TT track and mud bog, will be undergoing some
changes. First, there is now new "investors" which will be putting big $$$
into the track. The track ownership has not changed. Work has already begun,
gone is the tire wall in turn 8. If you go off now, it's only 30 feet to a
very cold pond. Almost all the trees shrubs and hills are gone. You can
almost see the whole track from the pits!!

Why all the changes? There are plans to build a 1.5 mile speedway.
A tri-oval that will incorporate part of the road course. Turn 3 will be
part of a tight 90~ turn. The pit straight and the straight behind the pits
are are to be included as part of the speedway. That means that the track
will have some elevation change. Plans are to have this all completed by
this April.

With the success that Bryar has had with Northern Nascar, this makes sense.
Who know's, maybe a Winston Cup race in 1990...????

7.1Triple HeaderROYALT::GAFFNEYGone fishin/racinTue Sep 04 1990 09:5613
Looks like two drivers won all the money this weekend. Of course
there was Dale, but a big job well done to Mike McLaughlin who
took BOTH the Grand National and the Modified checkers at the
Triple Header. Mike took home over $35,000 for his efforts Sunday.
I thought the G.N. race was pretty dull, but then again there still
isn't too much rubber laid down yet. The Modifieds put on a much
better show, with quite a bit more passing. The 3rd division was
the Charlotte Sportsman cars. They were OK, but it's hard to sit
through something like that, following the Mighty Modifieds.
Track attendance was down from the B.G.N. opener, so traffic
    wasn't nearly as bad.

7.2NHIS BMW CCA Driver's School ReportCAESAR::ZETTERLUNDFri Sep 28 1990 09:1640
The Boston Chapter of the BMW CCA held its first driver's school at NHIS on
Sept. 21. Eighty enthusiastic students and twenty-five instructors
participated on a beautiful autumn day. We had a very interesting
cross-section of BMWs on the track, ranging from M-cars (M1, M3, M5, M6) to a
1967 1600. We also had an assortment of Porsches, VWs, etc., and a Ferrari.

The NHIS staff was very professional and helpful throughout the day. NHIS is a
first rate physical plant and should be even better next year. I had some
interesting discussions with Ted Goddard over the summer about the track layout
(south end chicane and turn 3, in particular) and have developed an
appreciation for the design constraints that the various sanctioning bodies and
environmental laws have placed on the facility. We were fortunate to have Bob
Chausse of the SCCA to lead the flagging and communications activities.
Everyone learned a lot from Bob and the three SCCA workers who also came up for
the day.

We used the "club" course for the school. This reduced the approach speed to
turn 3 by anywhere from 10-20 mph. The instructors who instruct at PCA events
wanted to run the oval turn, but we will probably continue to use the "club"
course until we develop a more experienced student group. Thirty-four of the
students had never been on a track before. The transitions into and out of the
south end chicane were fairly severe as paved initially. Additional paving was
completed in late August to allow shallower, less abrupt transitions. It is
now possible to enter and leave the chicane fairly smoothly; however, the
transitions on the fast line remain quite abrupt. Curbing has been added to
the road course all the way to the turn-in point for turn 10. A thick layer of
loam had been spread all around the course; it should be very pretty by next
summer.

The students behaved very well. I attribute much of this to instructors being
in the cars with the students at all times and, thereby, being able to instill
in the students healthy doses of respect for the course. There were only two
spins in turn 3 and no off-course excursions; fortunately, there were no cars
following closely in either case. One of the instructors hit the outside wall
in turn 2 when the right front tire blew as he entered the banking from the
chicane. He was able to pull out the sheet metal, mount a spare, and drive
home.

Everyone in the club is looking forward to next year's event(s).

7.3CART race at NHIS!DTIF::GUMBELDick GumbelThu Oct 10 1991 21:4710

The Monday edition of the Nashua Telegraph (N.H.) carried an article
that announced a CART race at NHIS July 3rd, 1992. This CART race came
into existance when the Cleveland Grand Prix was canned. The NASCAR
folks show up the following weekend at NHIS. Should make for a busy
racing summer here in New Hampshire.

Well, true to their word, NHIS did send out notification to
previous ticket purchasers for first dibs on the 7/5 CART race. The
prices are, a bit, outrageous. $35 each for the cheap seats down front,
rising steadily to $75 each for the rows underneat the suites. The
cheapest seats are $25 per only in the Laconia Grandstands which they
    termed as the "family" section.

Price, however, be damned -- I got three at $55!!!

I just got off the phone with the ticket folks at NHIS...lemme see...8
tickets in the top row and another 8 in the family grandstand...carry the
one...uhhh...over six hunnert bucks!

According to the person on the phone, the race is a 200-lapper. I'm
disappointed...I've been to the 200-lapper at Nazareth and it's over
entirely too quickly. 300 would have been more realistic...

I figure they'll be qualifying at about 180...assuming a race average of a
speed as low as 125 and we're looking at about an hour and 40 minutes of
racing. Not enough...8^(

I'm going to NHIS for the first time Sunday. Could someone give me directions?
I was told to get there by 8:00 am, otherwise don't count on seeing the start.
Also I was told to park far away for a quicker exit. Any comments on this?
Anyone know a good place to park?

Thanks.

Route 3 north through Nashua (assuming you can find that...:-))
FE Everett Turnpike (get your quarters out) up through Manchester and into
Concord (rt 93 by that point). Get off at exit 15 and head east (393?). From
that road take 106 north towards Loudon. The track will be on the right about
8 miles up.

Figure on 1.5 hours from Maynard (45-60 minutes from Nashua, depending on
traffic and 'other' driving conditions).

was there at 10 and I got right into a good parking spot and had,
plenty of time to check out all the vendors. Unless the Indy people

I loooove the smell of racing fuel in the morning...

TMW,

I don't know who...my sister talked with someone who had been to some event up
there. I asked the question prior to finding out about the indy lights race.
I would like to be up there for that, though, but some of the other people Im
going with (not really racing fans) want to get there a little later, they'll
be happy to hear it should be a problem.

The problem as I understand is with the access road getting in.

It was very bad. It took us two hours, 20 minutes to get from
Londonderry, NH to the track. That was a normal 45 minute drive, for
about 40 miles. We got to within 12 miles of the track in 30 minutes,
and spent the rest of the time doing 0-15 MPH. Lots of stop time.

We got to the track at 11:35. I felt terrible for the poor folks that
were still driving in 20 minutes after the race started. Exiting was
not too bad. We decided to head north, which went well. I heard that
the I93 was backed up 8 miles above where 393 hooks in in the
southbound direction, all the way to the tolls in Hookset. That
probably translated to about 2 hours to go the 8 miles from Concord to
    the toll station.

The traffic all depended on when you got there. As mentioned in .-1,
it got very bad as the morning progressed. I left from Merrimack,
NH, at 8:00 AM. I very little traffic problems. Route 106, the
piece of highway between Interstate 393 and NHIS, was very heavy
traffic, but it moved at 55 MPH until about 1/2 mile before the track,
at which point it slowed to a steady 5-10 MPH all the way to the track
and into the parking lot. I got to the grandstand area for the last
5 minutes or so of the IndyCar practice (9:00-9:30 AM).

Bottom line: get there early and enjoy the support events.

7.24What exactly did go on at NHIS?RACER::daveAhh, but fortunately, I have the key to escape reality.Mon Sep 13 1993 14:3123
All things considered, what actually did go on at NHIS?

My network of spys fed me lots and lots of nice rumors, saying that
the last race weekend there was more like Payton Place than a sports car
race. Matter of fact, if HALF of the stories are true, then Payton Place is
a laid back calm and normal little town.

I have heard stories of every type, from Stewards yelling at each other, drivers
getting into fist fights (all on vidio tape, made by one drivers brother, who
just happens to be a lawyer), spousal arguments and even a little bit of husband
beating, various workers getting real annoyed and protesting the stewards (never
mind that workers have absolutly no right to file a protest! Read the GCR,
drivers and entrants may file a protest, but workers need to file a RFA), one
person telling the drivers to cool it because they were just racing for
"F&*^ing ashtrays" , and so now, everyone is looking for "F&*^ing ashtrays" ....

and the saga goes on. (I'll skip all the stories of a personal nature, but
some of the words related to drivers, snakes, and what they would do...)

Geez, stories like these might even get me to renew my membership in the
Silly Car Club of America, as the entertaiment value sounds real high.
It would certainly be worth the $10 it would cost me per year to get into
see this show....

Seems to me that the post exactly fits the reason for this conference.
Granted, it may poke fun at your favorite organization, but a note directly
                            ^^^^
about the personalities in the organization is directly related to racing.

Many, many of the posts in this notes file complain about various people
in various aspects of racing, and if people want to make their behavior
public at some racing event, well then its part of the racing environment.

I have never read a post where you complained about some note saying the
Senna or Dale, or Little Al were driving or acting like something other
than a businessman, so I can only assume that you have had your feathers
ruffeled because this one "strikes a little close to home."

From the January 17, 1994 edition of AutoWeek:

IMSA Adding Two: (page 46)
IMSA will add two races to it's 1994 WSC and GTS-O-U schedules: It has
confirmed a July 8-10 date on the road course at Indianapolis Raceway park,
where a $500,000 improvement project is already underway. IMSA is also
negotiating toward a Labor Day-weekend program at New Hampshire International
Speedway, where competitors would race on an oval-and-infield circuit.

Courage Update: (page 47)
Yves Courage's WSC car is moving along. Plans now call for the car to be

races later this year at Laguna Seca, Portland, New Hampshire and Phoenix.
Former Peugeot 905 engineer Paolo Catone is in charge of the project.

There is an article in todays Nashua Telegraph (Nashua, NH.) about the
upcoming "battle" between the IndyCar series and the new series
    proposed by Tony George.

It should be interesting to see what happens. The Bahres have said that
they would want to be a part of a series that included the Indy 500.
IndyCar tried to sign them up to a longer term contract than this one
just signed (1 year I believe) after this one.

According to the Boston Globe this past Sunday, the IndyCar race this
year is selling at about the pace of last years (41,000). However, the
day after the Winston Cup race they sold more tickets for the IndyCar
race in one day than any previous day in the past 2 years.

than that wouldn't probably prove much regarding the outcome, but
for me, 200 laps that I've watched over the past two years for the
Indycars was an awfully quick race, and not even close to worth the
ticket price. As an aside, if you are contemplating going to this,
by all means, buy the cheap tickets! After the race starts, look
around and see what seats are available. With over 20000 seats
available, you'll have no problem relocating to a better viewing
area. I saw loads of open seats last year along the very high
levels of the grandstands, all race long.

I seemed to remember that IndyCar will not run any race over 200 laps.

I agree it is short, but I think it's still worth the trip.

I go up all three days in fact and go into the infield. It is easier to
get to talk to a driver here than trying to run them down at say Indy.
However, IndyCar drivers should take a lesson or two from the Nascar
drivers. Very few if any drivers or other sports personalities are as
accessible and friendly as the Nascar drivers.

Good idea about snatching up a good seat for a lower price ticket. I'll
bet that a lot of the Laconia (turn 4) grandstand will be empty too.

Does anyone have a schedule for Loudon Raceway? Are there any races

this month? Or any other track in So. New Hampshire.

    Thank in advance,

Last year, the Barber guys ran late Sat. afternoon. Sunday's events
were the Indy Lights race, IndyCar, the modifieds, and a huge freakin'
    rainstorm, in that order.

I just hope the remains of Felix don't find their way north this

was effected by the remnants of a hurricane. 8^)

Bob Bahre has had the worst luck with weather. Every IndyCar race
run at NHIS has been threatened with rain. It seems like every one of
his spring and fall Busch dates have ast least one rained out day over
    the weekend.

I'm hoping this year is different, but I'm packing the poncho. I
haven't had the best luck this year; I went to Lime Rock for the
IMSA/SCCA event and a tornado broke out!

7.43BIRDIE::POWISThu Jan 04 1996 08:595
Saw a report on this morning's news that the Bahres have purchased 50%
of the North Wilksboro (is that in NC or VA?) and would like to move one
of that track's NASCAR WC events to NHIS, thus giving NHIS 2 WC races.
I guess this would make the WC fans happy . I just wonder if the Bahres are
doing this in case their IRL event is a flop?
7.44LJSRV2::ALLEGREZZAGeorge Allegrezza @LJOThu Jan 04 1996 10:067
Well, the NHIS has been practically printing money since they got the
first WC date, so this is a good business move regardless of what
happens with IndyCar/IRL. Although, I think they will have a hard
time getting a good IRL crowd if the non-Indy IRL entry list remains
    in the "pathetic" class.

If you haven't heard, it appears that NHIS
took care of the ruts in T-3 and the Esses
late last fall. If we chased anyone away
because of the less than desirable track
conditions ... come on back !!
